What are the most popular TTRPGs after D&D, both currently and historically? Having trouble finding good answers online.
Uuuuh Pathfinder is #2 for sure
>>92540496CoCPathfinder
>>92540496>historicallyIn the 90s, Vampire the Masquerade.
>>92540601>>92540610Okay, cool. Any idea as to the type 5-10ish? Or is that kind of hard to gauge. I see people talk about Shadowrun and Warhammer, WoD, PbtA a bit, but I've no idea if that's a good measure of their actual popularity.

>>92540649This report is from 2021 and only covers roll20 userbase but should be enough to gauge the actual games distribution:https://blog.roll20.net/posts/the-orr-group-industry-report-q1-2021/
>>92540496Call of Cthulhu has historically always been the runner-up
>>92540496Funnily enough, my homebrew is actually the most-played game of all time, even beating out d&d.
>>92540496Honestly this strongly depends on the country. For example Warhammer Fantasy has been incredibly popular in many Slavic nations for a long time, here in Poland it was easily in top #3 most played RPGs for the good chunk of hobby's history in the country. But it never really got that popular in the west I think
>>92540974Aside from the fact that this only takes online play on Roll20 into account, it's kinda further skewed because you usually don't really need all the stuff that Roll20 offers if you're not playing something heavily tactical/combat focused In most online campaigns and sessions I've played or ran we only really used discord with some channel bots for rolling the dice and playing music
>>92540496Certainly not Eclipse Phase.
>>92540496Shadowrun used to be a comfortable 3rd right up until Porchgate killed it.
>>92540496For the 90s it was>D&D>Rifts and Vampire the Masquerade competing for second>Shadowrun in fourth>Runequest, Cyberpunk, and loads of scifi RPGs competing for scraps
>>92540496ICv2 reports from Fall 2022>1. Dungeons and Dragons>2. Pathfinder>3. 5E OGL>4. Vampire: The Masquerade>5. Transformers RPGSpring 2021>1. Dungeons and Dragons>2. Cyberpunk>3. Pathfinder>4. Alien>5. 5E - CompatibleFall 2020 is the same as Spring 2020 but switch Cyberpunk and Pathfinder and Fate is at 5.Spring 2020 is DnD, Pathfinder, 5E Compatible, Starfinder and Cyberpunk.Fall 2019 is DnD, Pathfinder, Shadowrun 6E, Star Wars and Alien.Fakk 2018 is DnD, Leged of the Five Rings, Star Wars, Starfinder and Vampire.
I'm also sure that Fallout is pretty high right now.
>>92549379What the fuck, I never heard a single person talking about a Transformers RPG of all things, is this genuinely popular?
>>92549379>>92552110ICv2 rankings #4 and #5 are usually flavor-of-the-month RPGs that have a brief spike and then disappear from view, so I wouldn't put much stock in them. ICv2 data comes from distributors and they don't have data on regular-selling slow and steady RPGs.
>>92540628Because it was the easier way to pick up goth chicks, nowadays it's pointless to get into it.I lost my virginity thanks to Vampire, but it's time is well past.
>>92544962May I see it?
>>92555610No
Can't forget traveller for 70s, 80s
>>92544962While masturbating may technically be "traditional" in the sense that it has a long history, and a "game" in the sense that one can be considered to be "playing" it, you are not the first person to do it while lying on a table dressed as a catgirl, by far.
