>>

Aren't most of the homeworld flavors basically "this 1 caste makes up 90% of the tau here and the planet is primarily focused on doing that caste's duties" and the other castes are just there for support? The fire cast, for example, basically play police man / security guard on most of the central Tau homeworlds, but obviously have a MUCH different role on the fringes.

>The Admech and Imperials sought salvation from the tainted waves inside their holdings and rigs but found themselves beset by the tainted sea life. The swarms of the sea monsters pulled entire structures beneath the waves. But what horrified the Imperials more than the swarms was the fact that these monsters were only fleeing the titanic creatures stirring from the ocean's trenches. Slowly the ocean's behemoths rose from the waves and brought with them a new meaning of fear for the unfortunates caught in their wake.

Vashtorr and Arkifane is a brand new warp Power like the four main warp Powers/ Chaos gods. He's just lesser than they are and more like a chaos demi-god. He aspires to be a true chaos god in his own right and is one the wayt to making that a (un)reality. Vashtorr is has his own realm, the Forge of Souls that he is the leader/god of like the other 4 chaos gods do. Fans suspect that like the other 4 he has his own cult legion in the Iron Warriors, and his own daemon primarch in Perturabo.
He was introduced as being on the same power level as Be'lakor, a demi-god of chaos and one of the most powerful beings in the warp. Vashtorr corrupts technology

You can hardly call the obliterators. The DoW obliterators were actually melded with their armor and had guns jutting out of their flesh-stub arms. Whoever has been designing the new daemonkin/daemon-engines has this weird fetish for stark seperation between metal plates and flesh. It just looks like a naked person who could only afford half a set of armor

The plates are not melting into the skin anymore, and it makes everyone look naked.

A friend of mine knew I wanted to get into Warhammer and so gave me some necrons he didn't want. The ones from the old starter edition.
So far I've cut them out the plastic sheets and stuck them together.
Because it's a starter kit they're supposed to be the kind where they just slot together but I ended up using a little glue anyways.
Now I'm gonna try painting them. I just hope I thin my paints right and don't fuck them up too badly....

I've heard you're also suppose to cover the base with dirt and stuff too before you play, do you have any material you recommend for doing that?

Also I think I'll keep going with necrons since I've grown pretty attached to these fellas, do you have any necron kits you'd recommend, or any necron lore you'd recommend I read?

Thanks everyone :)

you don't need to put dirt on the discs they stand on or anything, despite ppl here pressuing you to put dirt or sand or w/e on them. there's no rule that says you must.

before you paint them, make sure you prime them first with some flat black primer from the hardware store. They're v easy to paint, just paint them all a metal color and paint the glowy parts of the gun in a yellow-green, and add a wash or "shade paint" to the metal parts and thats it.

the new combat patrol is fine, or see if there's some cheap necron warriors on ebay

You're right, I forgot about the necron one. Still firmly in the 2x troops 1x elite rather than the older 1xtroops 1xelite 1xvehicle that the old ones used to be (barring super deals like the Dark Eldar one). Not every 3d printed model is a single piece tho.
But sure, GW has to do some extra work for the sprues, but it still is nice to have different versions or interpretations for each faction or model they do. Some might suck, others are pretty cool
>>
>>92590700
lolno
GW obviously didn't like having to put a certain number of points in the combat patrols, part of the reason they're doing the shitty but pushed game mode with locked lists.
But the Tau combat patrol is good, because it's extremely repeatable. Two or three of them can form a very solid core to any tau army which is exactly what you should be asking out of combat patrols.
>>

They were all meant to be on inception with the idea they’d replace the start collecting boxes as a box set army little Timmy can get for Christmas and go to his LGS and sample 40K playing combat patrol. Then GW in typical GW fashion forgot this idea and just made them box sets with the usual retardation. There’s such a contrast in quality between sets it’s laughable and some are straight up illegal to run by their factions rules.

I enjoy the freaky silhouette of the frong view but mang when you showed the thing from the side and its just psychophage standing on its head it started looking way too goofy. honestly I'd say you should've clipped off the nid face and covered the upper path of the psychophage body with Elmers Glue/ModPodge + Superglue mix. Piss easy to do and results in a nice, organic texture, very popular with chaos and nid players. Picrelated is just some ball bearings with above mix slathered on top.

The pathfinders are the dead weight, but all the other units in there are definitely worth having 2 or 3 of. The other box was great too, since it came with a cadre fireblade and a ghostkeel, plus some decent army filler, the only shit unit being the ethereal. As for playing the combat patrol game mode, it fucking sucked, and the points per dollar were one of the lowest at the time of 10th's release, on par with admech, but it came with units that are actually useful in an army, which is better than some other factions can say. Hard to say. Those spikes say "Admech", but those ribbed vents on the underside show up on a ton of mechanical chaos models. That style of chipped paint shows up on a few Necromunda models. >you can play legends in casual
There is no "casual", there is Matched Play and there is Crusade/Narrative. And Legends are legal in 10th edition Matched Play, unlike 9th edition where you gotta do the whole "opponent, may I?" dance. You just can't bring Legends shit to a tournament.
>In years past, many war machines of the Horus Heresy have received rules for Warhammer 40,000. In the new edition, these units will return as Legends of the Horus Heresy – still very much usable in your games, but leaving competitive tournament battlefields to the core Warhammer 40,000 miniatures range.
>The Warhammer Design Studio are creating free datasheets for the Legends of the Horus Heresy – even including the elusive Chaos Kratos. You’re free to use these rules in your games wherever or however you play them – at home, in stores, or gaming clubs, both for narrative campaigns and matched play games.
>The only place you won’t be able to use these datasheets is in a competitive environment – particularly at official Warhammer 40,000 tournaments. It’s important to also note that they won’t receive changes or balance updates as the edition develops and the meta shifts.
>This highlights another practical reason for these changes, besides the divergence in setting.

its never about "most" of them its about the abusable ones.
Legends status makes the units poison. Poison to buy, poison to play because they specifically arent balanced past their introduction and also poison because there is an extremely likely chance when the next edition rolls around they simply disappear completely.

Legends is a casual/agreed play only in practice, im sure some people dont care either way, but in the entirety of 10th I dont think ive ever seen a legends unit included in an army because then you cant participate in the store league and end of quarter tournies with the army.

How good are Screamer Killers? I'm thinking of trying one (or two) out for Synaptic Nexus but wasn't sure how good they were. I don't own any of the new 10th Ed Models for them, and didn't know if it was worth it to get one (since I could just use the more modern Carny as one anyways). I doubt it, Age of Apostasy is one of those things that few fans care about, unlike the Great Crusade.
Which makes more sense because;
1. it's more primarch wank
2. it's more space marines
3. Horus Heresy game is basically just the "Great Crusade" wargame as well.

Thinking that GW will add more game systems or drastically change Horus Heresy is illogical and stupid.
Like people seem to forget but the Horus Heresy game is speficially called that because it specifically takes place during the Heresy, if you move it forward into Scouring, it no longer is the Horus heresy.

I'm pretty sure even if lucius does get killed in a way that completely follows the guidelines of how to kill him permanently Slaanesh will bring him back anyways because >>92591380 hit the nail on the head
even if there's no logical reasoning to it Slaanesh would just have him pop up in the body of the person who either organized/helped the blanks in any way, someone who just happened to witness the blanks kill him and felt glad about it or just some schmuck reading a report that said he was dead. because they can't write for shit they can't allow Lucius to die and his schtick lets him lose over and over again just so he can do his thing because that's his only gimmick
The only thing that makes Lucius semi-interesting is that he's completely aware of all of this and suffers a massive superiority-inferiority complex over how much he fucking sucks as a 'duelist' and how he can only ever really "win" because the God he sold his brothers out to thinks his dancing monkey routine is kinda funny actually. His ego was so fragile he betrayed his best friend because people viewed them more favorably than himself
Kharn gave into his rage because it was all he had left and he's just engorged in the killing, Typhus genuinely just enjoys what he's become and Ahriman just wants to save his legion once he finds a way out of bird daddy's cage (which will never happen). Lucius is probably the worst off of the four, because the others can/will be brought back if they're killed, but unlike the others Lucius's conditions are set up so he can only return knowing he lost and won't get a chance to beat whoever defeated him and he's such a prideful egotist it drives him up the wall.

Sure i've seen a chart that listed out averages for melee damage on the monsters in the Nids and the Screamer Killer seemed like it was pretty solid there; effective at mulching G/M/TEQs and being acceptable against lighter tanks. I don't know if I'd be willing to break off enough points for a full squad of the Barbguants though, much less ten of them. >We're not so different... You and I...
I appreciate the sentiment. The conversion I did isn't anything fancy I think, but in all fairness to it I didn't want it to be, I thought a simpler design was going to work better for what I was going for.
I hadn't thought of using one of those tubes, but I think I've got a spare yellow one that came with some set that I have an inability to use for anything due to the color (the only remaining intact metallic ones I own are in Makuta and they're gonna stay in there) so using one for a Nid bit in some way sounds like a fun idea. Thanks.
I've also done a Strangleweb, but it's more-or-less just a rough clay sculpt because I didn't like the new Gaunt designs but wanted to use one, so I gave it to the one with a Hive Node. I accidentally broke his tail while handling him, but when I added a longer one to replace it it actually helped keep him balanced so it kind of worked out.
If I can get a good picture of one of them I'll share it. Currently I'm working on a "Screamer Killer" Kit-Bash (Because I didn't know if it was worth it to buy one >>92591403 and my Tyranno and Mawlock are broken); with the monster so far being the upper body of the Mawlock with the Fleshborer Hives of the Tyranno and some hives sculpted onto his back to mesh with them with his head being the Acid Maw Carny that's face plates have been extended to go past his eyes like an old Ripper. I'm trying to figure out how to do his lower half (and what to do for his secondary arms) but may start trying to glue the aforementioned parts in place tonight.

Nigger mandrakes are just naked elves who can teleport through shadows. Sure they’re sneaky but if you’re at all expecting them a marine in armour absolutely should be able to take one. Normal humans are probably fucked tho. Frankly a marine out of armour is also probably not gonna do so hot.

The synaptic disintegrator literally unravels all the neural tissue in your body.

>And marines min maxed to be giant tanks that are practically nigh-unkillable
Power Armor is very killable. Shuriken weaponry canonically slices through ceramite and power armor as easily as it does flesh, since it's monomolecular. Nevermind that Power Weapons are ubiquitous and likewise shear through power armor like butter, they can cut through fucking starship bulkheads for crying out loud (and that's even the explicit purpose of power fists/chainfists on terminator armor)
>while being almost as fast eldar,
no. space marines are very fast for something as big and heavy as they are. they are not LITERALLY DODGING BULLETS fast. Eldar canonically are capable of moving so fast human eyesight is incapable of following them. Wyches literally dodge bullets and lasers while wearing virtually no armor. The Eldar are biologically engineered weapons of the Old Ones as an entire race, Space Marines are artificial human attempts to improve baseline humanity just so they can compete with the natural state of crazy shit in the galaxy like genestealers being able to rend terminator armor to scraps with their claws and Ork nobs being strong enough to dismember marines bare handed.
a Space Marine in full power armor can have his head caved in by an ork with a choppa that's basically just a big piece of scrap metal on a stick because they're that inhumanly strong, and a Power Klaw assembled from a pile of scraps and wiring can cleave through 10,000 year old relic Tactical Dreadnought armor. Humanity is beset on all sides by superior forces and is dying a slow death by a thousand cuts.

Eldar titans are also COMPLETE bullshit, they have essentially human-level mobility despite being gigantic fucking wraith constructs, everybody else is playing Battletech with their titan legions and meanwhile the Eldar are playing fucking Super Robot Wars

From what I have seen from western TV, humanity is always evil and it should be willing to kill itself just to save a bird or a beatle of some sort. I expect the crazy part of the fandom expect the empire to jump in to tyranid and ork mouths just to feed them.
>>
>>92592736
GW have always kind of tried to have their cake and eat it too. The Imperium is the "bloodiest regime imaginable", and has a lot of genuine unnecessary cruelty, corruption, stupidity, stubborn dogmatic adherence even in the face of death, etc.........But many of the Imperium's most reprehensible actions are also COMPLETELY understandable and justified 100% in-universe, and are simply pragmatic action for the sake of survival.
Like, the Inquisition and literal witch-hunts are genuinely necessary to the survival of the imperium and regularly save entire planets from being lost to chaos or xenos invasion. Exterminatus is an unthinkable sacrifice and waste of human life and callousness, but it's also obviously the correct choice if the alternative is the planet being sucked wholesale into the Warp and 100 trillion people being sacrificed to Chaos and turning into a Daemon World, or if there's a Necron tomb world about to awaken and NOT blowing it up will lead to losing 100+ more planets as the dynasty expands.

When a single rogue alpha-plus psyker can accidentally destroy an entire planet or cause a daemonic invasion that overruns a subsector, suddenly being ultra authoritarian and harsh on unsanctioned psykers makes perfect sense, and any X-Men style arguments for individual liberty are outweighed by the "I don't want my soul to suffer in giga-hell being raped by futanari satan for a million years because a psyker dragged us all screaming into the Warp". Hell, killing an entire civilian population and allowing their souls to pass on naturally rather than allow them to be turned into Plaguebearers by Nurgle's Rot is the outright morally correct action
>>
>>92592801
that's not the western philosophy, that's eastern

>>92592812
I think people take Exterminatus memes too seriously. When Inquisitors do mass Exterminatus campaigns like that in the actual fluff, they get shitstomped for being a blithering gibbon who's wasting valuable human resources. The Imperium is extremely cruel, and there are plenty examples of that cruelty being senseless. Yet most of the time they have a legitimate reason to be that way. Trying to categorize the Imperium as le good or le bad just straight up doesn't work.

Complete speculation on my part, but I think the new Necron combat patrol is an exception to the rule. I think it was meant to be released in 9th and then for whatever reason, didn't, and this caused it to be released in 10th without 10th's combat patrol design philosophies.
For a weirdly similar reason I have my suspicion that unless the leaks were correct, guards combat patrol isn't getting replaced when the codex drops.

It just seems to me like CPs are always going to be 3 units + an HQ (except the marine one but that's because they had to make one with the box), and they can have a vehicle, just not a very big one or tanky one.

>Dark Eldar are so hilariously backwards.
It is hilarious but it also makes total sense (which is why it's extra funny)
>Trusting another Dark Eldar to be that vulnerable around them, or having such supreme confidence in your ability you can willingly let your guard down knowing they can't touch you.
>Willingly debilitating yourself with pregnancy for an extended period and surviving any assassination attempts and battles against your rivals with a handicap
>ALSO protecting your partner from assassination attempts the entire duration, since Eldar pregnancy requires multiple fertilizations and DNA injections over the course of the pregnancy, not just one-and-done fertilization like humans
>Giving birth and raising the child to adulthood over an extended period of time where they are again vulnerable to assassination and weak and are a liability to you
It's no wonder Dark Eldar brag about being mommies and hold up their Trueborn children as trophies to brag about and pamper them and use them for vicarious competition with others. Compared to just growing a vatborn clone it's 100x riskier for largely bragging rights benefits.

Cool. Thanks for the heads up. I will buy the book without forced female characters in it. I don't know why GW can no longer write proper women characters. Shira Calpurnia was great, both as an example of an Ultramara born citizent, high ranking arbites and a woman, with all the problems coming with it.

>Lelith is the Harley Quinn of 40k.
Please no.
On the other hand, would that mean she gets a new model every edition so by sheer numbers we'll eventually get a good one?
>>
in older editions with move or shoot heavy weapons how were you supposed to approach tank chicken? if I have an infantry guy with a lascannon and deploy him with los of where I think my opponent's tank is going to go and my opponent gets first turn he can just drive out and blow him up, but if I deploy him somewhere hidden it will always take a turn of moving out of safety before he can actually shoot.
>>
>>92593226
There aren't a lot of women in the novel at all. There's one lady who becomes the chief of his personal security detail (he didn't ask to have one, the normies formed it themselves because they thought it was only proper), but she's barely mentioned at all and probably has fewer than a handful spoken lines throughout the whole book. The whole thing's a sausagefest.

That is how it would have worked, if we lived in pre 2000s. Sadly it is no longer the case. Once unmade things never get to be good, fun or entertaining. GW w40k/WFB are only another example of that rule.

Lelith will become 40k's Krethusa after discovering a shard of Morai Heg in Aelindrach after returning to Commoragh. This will give her the ability to grow a giant pair of wings on command so she can eventually be Corvus' Eldar girlfriend as they bond over their mutual birdhood

I had no idea there was a special Dwarf faction called Votann until I went to a Warhammer store and saw their minis, and had to ask what they were. I always thought they were a sub-faction within the Imperium knowns as squats. It's funny because I thought I had a general knowledge of 40k by then.

Remove Custodes, Grey Knights, Votann, GSC, and Knights as factions.

Bake all Imperium into one soup, Votann get squatted forever, GSC get rolled into Tyranids.

Eldar and Necrons should statistically be the strongest armies in the game. Tau gunline is the best way to play the faction, and also one of the strongest armies in the game. Orks are a memey army but green tide is legitimately strong. Space Marines get heavily nerfed in lore and tabletop because fuck marines lmao.

Do female minis actually sell all that well? I still want codex books for more xenos armies chapters. Like to this day we basically still just have "Necrons" and not any other flavor of necron. Yet we have "Green" Space Marines. "Blue" Space Marines. "Red" Space Marines. "Yellow" Space Marines. All having books at least at some point. FUCK!
