I've heard people say that having a coherent theme helps keep a chain going, but I've had the opposite experience. I've proven time and time again that it's only a matter of time before I run into a jump where I can't resist making a build I personally think is cooler in a general sense, over one that fits my theme better. I try to ignore it and keep the chain going, but I just keep remembering that moment of weakness. Once I try and edit an old build long after the fact, regardless of the reason, it's all over, since setting a precedent like that renders every choice I make afterwards completely meaningless.Anyone else have this problem, or am I just exceptionally autistic, even by this thread's standards?

Was planning to do a star/cosmic themed chain. The idea was to have an arc for every constellation, and a jump for every star. If Wikipedia is to be believed, turns out there's a lot more stars per constellation than those in the main outline, and nobody can agree on what they're called. The Black Star Dragon Balls made sense-way more powerful than normal due to being made when Kami was whole, and with major cost because he hadn't split himself into Good and Evil. Baby makes sense; the Saiyans had pissed off A LOT of races in the galaxy, and it was logical that their ancestors would've tried to create a weapon that could destroy them even when the Saiyans were (almost) long gone. Super Saiyan 4 makes sense; Goku never tried to master the Oozaru state anyways, and it connects to both the ascendant legend of the Super Saiyan and the primal power of his Oozaru heritage. Even the Shadow Dragons make sense-showing that there was a COST to all the wishes they'd made over the years that had been slowly building up in the background, only to emerge all at once in a poignant lesson on the actual cost of relying upon miracles to solve one's problems. And they're ALL hype as fuck. Super dragon balls that can grant any wish but they blow up the planet in return? That's sick as hell. Baby being a nanomachine parasite who can turn friends into enemies and wield their powers to unheard of levels? Awesome shit. Baby trying to remake the Tuffle homeworld and inflict as much suffering on the Saiyans as possible in the process? Makes sense and makes for awesome scene-setting. Achieving a power that unifies everything that a Saiyan is and takes it to a level beyond anything we've ever seen? Sick as all hell. Shadow Dragons are just crazy awesome as a concept.It all sounds SO good on paper. They had something there that could've been truly wonderful, something that could've surpassed the original series even. But goddamn did they completely and utterly drop the ball on the execution.

It had all the right ideas, but it had none of the execution to make that work. That's the issue with GT. There is no single thing you can point to in it and say "this is what's wrong with it", because the issue is that it had so many minor issues that the end result is abjectly terrible.

Spirit Bomb to draw in massive amounts of life energy that you couldn't generate on your own, pull that energy into yourself, then multiply it all by Super Saiyan to become a being far, FAR beyond what you could hope to achieve on your own. Temporary of course, but that's what makes it so hype.
