Something else I have in mind for Star Rush GP, considering people do care most about the combat aspects, is a dichotomy between tech/items and something that I’m currently calling Star Power. In-universe, it’s similar to the Force, a pool of power that those with great willpower can access. Anyone from any Origin could use it, but some would find it easier than others. The “little guys”, AKA whatever I call the Kirby-likes, for example, would probably have it for free, while other Origins might have to get it separately. It would give access to an assortment of powers, although it would also motivate you to rely less on your Craft for weaponry. My idea is: you can be a Silver Surfer sort of guy with cosmic powers, but you’d probably end up with a smaller vehicle like a hoverboard with one or no weapon slots on it. Star Power is also a fuel source. Those with access to it can more or less fuel their craft with their willpower, but Star Power can also be sucked out of people and put into batteries.Dichotomy:>no star power>a lot of items/weapons on bigger crafts>star power>smaller kinds of crafts, access to powersI don’t wanna railroad builds, though. I want to let people mix and match and maybe even have some tech AND some Star Power abilities. This is also to encourage people who might have a wreck in the middle of an arena and then they get out of the craft and fight one-to-one. Sounds cool? Too much bloat? I’m definitely going to focus on vehicle options first and foremost, but I want to offer variety.

Ai will be missing for a day or so, and she'll have gone mad from the worms, setting up a later confrontation that ends in Kaoru revealing herself as Scarlet Senshi to the other half of the Student Council that doesn't know. Maybe I should have HLA Recruitment happen in that time, so that the KnK love worms feel like an added motivation for Ai joining the HLA? And then they might send Kentaro to go find her or something. Oh fuck that's actually pretty good, I think. Kaoru goes off to find Ai on her own, Yae gets the Student Council to go on their own search, Itsuro sends Kentaro to find Ai. When all three parties find Ai, big fight happens, Kaoru unmasks, emotional moment, Ai seems to be cured of the worms, but she agrees to stay with the HLA. Then, Rin gets them outta there with a Garganta, letting the Student Council know that the HLA exists but without telling them who the other half is, and Kentaro and Rin report to Itsuro and Kenji that there's a 6th Idolon user with the SC, doubting whether it's Kaoru or not. Fuck I just wrote this. I think I might go with this, if I don't get any objections

When a hero has to hide his identity it's because they can't be sure the people around them will take them well, or because it might put them in danger, but everyone around her also has superpowers so it all falls flat. There is no tension, it's just her sperging out for thousands of words. If it was something like keeping a secret from her normie family maybe it could work, but then you're playing off a NPC for most of your story

But it’s less about them knowing and more about completing the arc. It’s gonna make more sense when I’ve written it down, but basically, in front of a crazy wormed-up Ai and the Student Council buddies, that’s the final act of trust and Kaoru finally putting her fears and trauma behind her to do what needs to be done for her friends. I mean, there’d still be a fight before and after that, but it puts a dent on Ai’s worms because it’s like “this is how far my friend’s going to help me”. And for everyone else, it’s just completing the arc. I think it’s been pretty obvious that the Scarlet Senshi story is less about how good Kaoru is at keeping a secret, but more about learning to trust and work together with others. The *admitting* part is what’s relevant. The Scarlet Senshi persona is a trauma response, a way for Kaoru to keep emotional distance from others. If she finally decides to join her friends in a full capacity, that’s the completion of the arc.Yes, Kaoru IS very autistic. The way she stops being like that is by being honest with the rest and trusting them entirely. That’s a character flaw, and after like 6 writefags, I’m trying to write how she finally moves past that.
