I messed up in my spelltable game. I was playing kraven into Phage and Grist. I ended up casting my force of despair at the end of Phages turn after he finally played the damn thing for once. Then Grist had 1 (one) 1/1 (one)/(one) insect onboard and still managed to find lethal with a Craterhoof play and no haste giver. I should have saved the Force of Despair. It was clear Phage didn't have lethal. I had the fucking acid rain to clear his board cleanly on my turn anyhow. Then I could have killed him via commander damage and 1v1d Grist.

I'm pretty sure this is the 500th time I've posted it (maybe 3rd time here specifically)If someone makes an argument over whether a card should/shouldn't be banned based off of players exercising personal self-control, their argument should instantly be totally disregarded.If someone is capable of exercising self-control with a problematic card (e.g. Paradox Engine), this makes them the exception, not the rule. They are allowed to petition other players for allowing said card in any game with the argument they are going to use the card fairly. However this does not change how the banlist (and by extent, the GC list) should be used, which is to say, they should be used as flags for cards that become problematic when used to their fullest extent, or at the very least, when the person using it isn't deliberately sandbagging to avoid obvious interactions. A card should not be allowed to remain unbanned simply because there's a hypothetical scenario that someone is using it "fairly". By this logic there is no need for any banlist because people could be using Black Lotus to cast Craw Wurm, which defeats the point of having any format regulations in the first place because now you have, once again, shifted the entire burden of keeping the game playable onto the playerbase rather than the authority that's supposed to actually be maintaining it. This has never once worked in any game ever (see: Team Fortress 2, Dead by Daylight, Dungeons & Dragons). All it does is create a nebulous set of unwritten rules that vary from person to person and ends up creating an utterly miserable experience for anyone outside a closed group that exclusively plays with each other, at which point, once again, any sort of rules authority is a moot point because they're also free to operate in the opposite direction and unrestrict elements they feel punish a strategy that's fair in the context of their group.
