What does OSR mean
Old school RuneScape?
Outrageously Sick Rape
Old Sagging Rectums
>>98296697
It means you're going to constantly get dragged into arguments with middle-aged grognards who insist you're doing it wrong.

>>98296697Nogames constantly arguing about what people not on 4chan are doing
it means people want to racist & sexist but don't have the courage to do it by themselves. So they use 'going old school' as a cover claiming this how things were mean to be.
>>98296921based as fuck /tg/irl
>>98296697Games that try to emulate 1st edition dungeons and dragons. A useless relic from a time when that edition wasn't widely available for purchase. Now a useless marketing gimmick. Moral of the story: just play 1e.

>>98297233>most OSR games are categotrically not 1e clones, bozoThat's why I said that today it's a useless marketing term, illiterate. Originally OSRIC started the whole thing emulating ad&d, s&s was 0e done badly as was basic fantasy for bx. Nowadays it means whatever you want it to mean. Like I said a useless relic from the past.
>>98297247>What does OSR mean>Games that try to emulate 1st edition dungeons and dragons.even ten years ago, there were barely any 1e clones, dummy. >Originally OSRIC started the whole thing emulating ad&deat shit lmao, based retard
>>98297247NTA, but that's not quite correct. Castles & Crusades (2004) predated OSRIC (2006) and technically the OSR began even before C&C, with OSR discussions happening as early as 2003 and possibly even earlier. Also, BFRP was partially published online before OSRIC, and Labyrinth Lord (a B/X clone) was also in development around when OSRIC was, and some of the guys who worked on OSRIC even helped out with LL. The "OSR is about trying to emulate 1e" or even "OSR started as trying to emulate 1e" is categorically a false statement, and even the guy who made OSRIC disagrees with it. In his primer explaining OSR, he says the OSR was an effort to preserve and promote the "old school" style of play, contrasting it with a "modern" style that he explained as being a result of 3e and later editions of D&D making large changes to how D&D was played that made later games incompatible with previous editions.

OSR refers to the /tg/ community dedicated to arguing what OSR means
>>98297615>OSR refers to the /tg/ community dedicated to arguing what OSR meanshi fishy
The fact that people can’t even agree to call it “Old School...” Rules, Revival, Renaissance or Retardation is pretty indicative of the OSR scene as a whole: a never-ending circle of contrarians who are all trying to synthesize their fuzzy impression of what wargaming used to be 50 years ago.
>>98297617that guy does exactly that, and the namefag schizo drama is why the osr community on this board is fucking insufferable
>>98297637>namefagwhat do you think that word means?
It's some shit for people who only care about D&D and think it should've been the only RPG ever
>>98297643Using a name on 4chan, which isn't fishfag but I used it to show how much I DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS FAGGOT SCHIZO DRAMATHIS IS WHY OSR SHIT SUCKS ON THIS BOARDDO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?
>>98297651words have meanings, tardkun. >screaming melty nonsenseI think its more likely that you got btfo and had multiple crash outs in the osr thread
here, it's 2 religious groups going to war with each other. They disagree on whether 2e is osr or not usually. recently there was an argument about whether "argumentum ad populum" was portuguese or latin (its latin btw).
>>98297578He is a fag tourist from Bluesky. They all about self censoring and all. To answer OP question. OSR is basically those who aren't a fan of new age and rather then stick with BX and all. They're making their own with blackjack and hookers. OSR just means they're going for more of that 70/80s style TTRPG over 3.5 or 5e style of TTRPG. However the people who join around Crit. Role and due to Stranger Things hate anything that isn't about "them" and bends to their feelings and values.
>>98297668this but the two religious groups are made up of a very tenuous alliance of small cults that all claim they're the one true interpretation of D&D
>>98297558i dont care about anything in this thread but you are a total faggot and should go back to funnyjunk
>>98297701>However the people who join around Crit. Role and due to Stranger Things hate anything that isn't about "them" and bends to their feelings and values.Meanwhile in reality the average tourist couldn't give less of a fuck about the OSR if they even know it exists. The rest are just culture war retards who are there purely to throw shit at the other side's culture war retards. Which the OSR is absolutely infested with.
>>98297701>OSR just means they're going for more of that 70/80s style TTRPG over 3.5 or 5e style of TTRPG.true. It's literally just a label for a vague genre of generally indie RPGs that associates itself with very old D&D. Now try and get people to admit that!
