>>98354546Mate they had 3 fucking guns, all of which with very different use cases. You used lasplas for backfield squads, you used double melta for midfield squads/inside a transport and you used flamers for overwatch (in 5th flamers and heavy bolters were free, so you took those if you just wanted the bodies). The unit had flexibility to, on top of being warm bodies to score objectives, fill a gap in your list. Intercessors can't do shit which is why 99% of lists that take them take a single MSU squad to sticky the home objective and then die the next turn. Intercessors can suck my balls. The authors are free to do as they please seemingly.
>>98354570>Mate they had 3 fucking guns, all of which with very different use cases.Lmao the historical use case for tacticals outside of msu las-plas was not to take them.

>>98354604Agreed, the manlet "variety" or whatever is pure poison.

>>98354643At one point in time, sure. But over all time scouts were the go to troops.Tactical squads have been a reatrded schizo design for a unit for most of history. Ironically 8e made them better.
>>98354428>moving forwardLmao nigga we havent even had real lore in 20 years, all the good writers who shaped 40k into the massive success that it became were gone by 2006 and the modern slop only coasts by on brand recognition of their far superior work
>>98354642Why do you guys keep saying this as if it made any sense? The vast majority of troops in the game work like that. You have most dudes with the same basic gun, a leader usually with melee weapons and one or two dudes with special guns per 5 or 10. Even fucking eldar guardians work like this with their weapon platforms. Why would anyone want their basic dudes to be more boring by not even having the option of getting a cool big gun?
>>98354478You have to complain about real problems with products that make you not buy it.
>>98354546I’m a nogames, so I just do what’s cool, but it sounds like that’s a fault of the rules rather than the models. they should be written to have weapons be side grades to each other rather than one being a straight upgrade, and giving up and making your ten man squad boring because you can’t into basic balance just makes the game worse and models worse.

>>98354656I find it annoying. Games take too long and mixed weapon squads add a lot to that. Taking one of something random is statistically unlikely to do much anyway.
>>98354680>Yeah, the same edition where they bloated the fuck out of woundsThey did not.>that single heavy and special weapon was mathematically worse than any of the bolt rifle options every single time. It wasn't, especially if you gave the sergeant a combiweapon. Tacs were superior than Intercessors at the beginning of 8e.
>>98354684>Taking one of something random is statistically unlikely to do much anyway.Mate MSU tacticals (or 6 man in 3rd and 4th) had 3 weapon upgrades. A combi for the sergeant, a special and a heavy. Especially before 8th changed the statlines those were a real threat and could one shot a tank or toast an entire unit with a template. Even a stray plasma shot killing a TEQ was already worth the upgrade points.

>The ivorywood roof of the bath-house had fallen in upon the perfumed waters of the long white marble pool. Timbers and tiles had crashed upon naked bodies. Some bathers had died instantly. Some had drowned. Once-lovely bodies were broken and submerged. Some victims still whimpered, injured and trapped by wreckage yet able to gasp air.>A stretch of side wall had partially collapsed. Through the resulting gap, from behind a baffler of marble debris, Jaq and the Eunuchs were witnesses to vile revelry in the once-delightful plaza outside where terracotta urns of floral shrubs lay shattered. Were the screaming tethered female prisoners hallucinating while abominations were perpetrated slowly and perversely upon their flesh? The Slaaneshi Chaos Marines had certainly used hallucinogenic grenades – as well as boltguns and meltaguns and terrible chainswords, and heavier weaponry too. Were hallucinogens intensifying the already appalling sight, and the implacable cruel touch, of pastel-hued armour exquisitely damascened with debauchery upon the breast plates and the shoulders? Was that which was already monstrous being multiplied far beyond the brink of sanity?>A few tormentors had shed items of armour, exposing grotesquely mutated rampant groins, their organs of pleasure bifurcated and more, with squinting eyes sprouting from them, and with drooling lips.>Others had no need to shed armour. Chaos Spawn had materialized: wolf-sized creatures with legs of spiders and bodies of imps, with questing tentacles and phallic tubes. Jaq himself almost believed that he was hallucinating. A snake-like umbilical cord connected these spawn to the swollen groin-guards of their master – who stood back, roaring and whinnying with delight, as they guided the spawn in the ravishing of their captives, soaking up the sensations of these roving external members.

Man Firstborn are cool. I think what Primaris are missing is being a little bit absurd and ridiculous. A Firstborn Devastator Squad member lugging around a Heavy Bolter is a little ridiculous, the thing is as big as he is. A Primaris Eradicator in Gravis Armor lugging around a Heavy Bolter is quite reasonable in comparison. Hell comparing the two models in person, the muzzle on the Devastator Squad Heavy Bolter is bigger than the Gravis one that came in Armageddon.
>>98354894You can certainly try, I think unless you do some really dramatic chop and resculpting work it's always going to be extremely identifiable as an ork rather than a genestealer mutant. Also most ork boy sculpts aren't holding two handed weapons... I think your best bet is probably the wrecka boyz as a base. It lines up neatly, numbers wise (the wreckas have 6 bodies but 1 is a nob and doesn't have options for a two handed weapon), and they all have the option to be holding a two handed weapon, in most cases gripping them with both hands. The hammer heads can be easily snipped off and replaced with something a little less orky, or not.

Certainly not the orks.Has 40k taken any inspiration from any anime like how they took inspiration from dune and moorcock and 2000ad?I think tau counts a little but I’m not sure if there is more.I don’t think that 40k battelfleet gothic ships would work for logh flight formation style combat as from what I remember the majority of their guns are on the sides of the ship so they mostly just engage in dogfights in the black void of space. If I recall correctly. I’m okay being wrong here.
had to grab my replacement warboss today since my armageddon box didn't come with one. the space marine captain didn't get replaced so I'll have to complain about that laterthe siege ending in a draw was the 100% expected outcome but I'm not complaining about another ork boyz detachmentespecially when it has a healing strat that can synergize with green tide mobs for when you eventually get knocked below 10+ models in your death star unit

>>98355464-4 doesn't even eat through tank armor these days since half of them are 2+ or 1+ from cover.
AP and invulnerable saves are even more important in 11th due to the change to cover.
>>98355464Pretty much, the basic idea is that AP0 is bad against everything except 6+ or no save enemies because everything else you could choose has an AP value, which has a noticeable effect on the last line of defense with armor saves. If you can choose between having a ton of hit rolls or a major AP modifier, you generally want the AP every time. Wounding space marines is a lot easier even when they only have to roll 4s rather than 3s since you're effecting the narrow end of the hit funnel where each one matters more.
>>98355455>>98355460my favorite version of this is that oldest lore is original sources (albeit dressed up in mythology and ancient understanding) and the more recent a GW publication, the more layers of hearsay, translation error, fabrication and politically motivated spin there is on top of it.it leads to a lot of funny implications. like necrons actually being mindless killer robots that more recent historians have attempted to project personality on to. or Inquisitor Obiwan Sherlock Cluseau absolutely being a real character in setting, whose existence 40k authorities have attempted to bury.

>>98355663its telling me i want an infantry based 2k army with a centrepiece monolith
I'm going to learn sign language so I can tell a Sister of Silence that I think she's pretty and ask her on a nice dinner date.
>>98355693Who's gonna tell him...
>>98355693she's mute, not deaf
Ecks dee :D I don't like orks XDXD
I like femstodes! :D
>>98355699>>98355700You need to know sign language to understand her responses anons. They talk in sign language.I want her to tell me all about her day killing heretics while we eat some nice yummy grox steaks together.
>>98354354Marvel Rivals also has that same problem so every female tank character is huge. Emma Frost and Angela being the worst affected.
>>98355699I will[gesticulates in silence]
>>98355737She's not going to tell you anything because she's not real.
If every Iron Warriors army has a Warsmith as their Warlord, what is the Word Bearer's generic lord for their Warlord? A Master of Possessions?
>play 7th against blood angels with my astral claws>he charges his sanguinary guard into my contemptor>dread just crushes 4 of them before any of them can do anything>power fist missesit's kind of crazy these are only WS4 and basically require a sang priest
>another blood axes themed detachmentWouldn't be necessary if they didn't ruin taktikal brigade
>>98355778Speaking of Iron Warriors, why does this general hate Iron Warriors and Night Lords but like Black Legion, Word Bearers, and Alpha Legion?
>>98355778Dark Apostles would be a better fit for word bearers as a whole.A lot of their chaos lords also take the roles of preachers and high priests.
>>98355737What if she uses actual signs?
>>98355737the point of making a vow of silence is not engaging in frivolous conversations
>>98355727I’m going to fucking kill you.
>>98355672Extremely based
>>98355857XDXD
>>98355857uh oh, orkfag meltie.
How much drugs are in IG rations?
>green tide gets nerfed beyond belief (again) next update>everyone goes back to the index detachment for the nth timeWill the orkfag melty be unbelievable?
>multi-part Orks have retro looking long facesThat’s neat. I don’t know if I’ll jump into the faction beyond this box though. Assuming Freebootaz don’t get a refresh.
>>98355907>freebootas refresh>one unit
>>98354909They just look like ogryns
>>98355909Hey Kill Team might be generous to me.
>>98355907Keep the faith. This is the edition of pirates for sure.
>>98355073wrecka crew are a bit too competently armored to pull off the retard look thoughi think with a head swap they just end up looking like a ripped quasimodo
Are the detachments that give +X inches detection range ever actually useful? They seem like they're a nothingburger...
>>98356045You don't have to use the armored backs on the wreckas, which cuts down significantly on their armored up appearance.
On Castigators and Exorcists for Sisters, is there any reason not to take the hunter-killer missile? Nothing is listed as a detriment or increased point cost.
>>98355361They’re not bad per seBut they’re not as good at scoring wounds that aren’t crits. If the weapons have enough attacks for fishing, or twin-linked, they can be good despite low or no AP.The trouble is a lot of weapons don’t have enough of that for the trade-off, compared to other wargear choices or even alternate units. Also, except for guard infantry spam, everyone’s running beefier more elite lists to deny purge the foe lists kill more scoring. So you have an even harder time wounding than 6 months ago.
>>98356077The only negative would be a future balance update adding points back in for it. Otherwise, take all the best war gear you can.
>>98354998Raptors. Thoughts on the head options?
>>98356349I like the one on the top right, gives it a humorous edge being a literal “raptor” head, but doesn’t take it too far like the one below it does.
>>98356349 Left or Bottom Right. Feel like the other two would fit Lightning Claws better for a "Talon" feel.
>>98355660Being an Admech player and my army being beautiful but feeling useless and horrible makes me sad.
>>98356401AdMech have been monsters of the meta several times in the last six years.
>>98354871>CyberpunkWay, way, way, WAY too low density. Night City has less than 7 million people - it's not even top 50 population of cities compared to the real world and the world populace in the Cyberpunk world is less than reality as well thanks to a fertility crisis + a huge fuck off war>Judge DreddNot at all. 95% of the populace in Judge Dredd is unemployed and there are very very few Judges. Life there is basically free compared to a hive city, where working long hours is mandatory
>>98354509>the entire leg is the squad iconWhy does this look so good? I'm stealing this design now.
>>98355000Suffering is a virtue, and autoloaders are heretek work
>>98356404I for one just want to build an army of models I like, without paying $1 per point, without feeling like I am trapped in 1-2 different playstyles at most.
>>98356401What are you playing? Because Skitarii Hunter Cohort with Lords of the Forge is pretty good right now. You just cover the board in skittles, you can fit an ungodly amount of chickens into the list, and techpriests are just dishing out free battle shocks to enemy tanks. Battleclade kill teams count as tech priests because of the underseer model.
Bought a chaos land raider the other day, my god man, when will they update this kit?
>>98354382Bought a singular ork boy from the Armageddon kit just to paint this fella
>>98356482Rangers, Tanks, Dunecrawlers and a single unit of three Ironstriders. Currently have a Castellan allied in for points. I enjoy it, but feel like I am at the mercy of my opponents army choice and the only way to win is to play the board and not combat.
>>98356488The kit is alright really. Give the gunner a modern set of shoulderpads and a helmet and it has aged quite well.
>>98356513I just found putting it together to be more of a chore than an enjoyable time. I know I'll definitely be able to spruce it up a lot and make it look nice in the end, and with tons of room to try some freehand art. I just wish there was a bit more to the build, it's 25 years old after all.
>>98356513I loved it on paper but was disappointed by how fucking big it is. On regular ass tables it can barely move. Which probably means the new Defiler severely outclasses it.
>>98356507What detachment(s) and dispo are you running?
What faction is easiest to paint that isn't Necrons? I want a faction that's easy to paint at first, but one I can improve and really shine with
>>98356579End of 10th was the last, mostly Haloscreed.
>>98356604Space Marines? Eldar? Basically anything where 90% of the models can be 1 colour and look fine.
>>98356607SPACE MARINES ARE BORING
>>98356623NO U
>>98356625Chaos Marines, Death Guard and Templar are the only interesting marinesPower armour was a mistake
>>98356604>>98356623>no necrons>no marinesguess that rules out custodes and grey knights too. I’d suggest tyranids in that case. they’re entirely alien, so its harder to pick up on fucked up paint jobs than with a normal human, and to make it harder to pick out, they’re a horde army which allows the cheerleader effect to press in. for leveling up your painting, they’re entirely flesh and chitin, so it gives you experience painting flesh, and then highlighting with the chitin. then when you’ve done basic tyranids, you can go off to the big monster tyranids which allow you to show off painting both on big models.
>>98356623>>98356655(you)
