Kind of odd to see the /tg/ vibeshift away from classes, what exactly happened that made one of /tg/'s more well known political stances (That classes are good and that classlessness is cringe) on it's head?
>>
We have autistic manbabies who do nothing but troll, and the only RPG popular enough to have any population that can offer them attention these days is D&D, ironically because the trolls have driven off most people. So, the trolls go through the process of complaining about every aspect of D&D in turn.
>>
>>98722626
Not untrue.
>>98722595
It's just cyclical. Class based RPGs get a lot of attention at the moment, so they have a lot of people noticing Thier shortcomings. Sooner or later a classless game will get a moment in the sun and people will see the shortcomings there instead.
>>
>>98722595
What makes you think that's the case? I first got into classless RPGs 12 years ago because they were popular here.
I can't even think of a good system that uses classes.
>>
>>98722595
/tg/'s commonly held opinion is whatever is opposite (you)rs.
>>
>>98722626
But /tg/ is superior
>>
>>98722595
Demographic shift, the newcomers have, at best little respect for old beliefs or traditions, at worst a specific agenda to push.
>>
>>98722687
Wait. You actually made decisions about what to play based on /tg/ and you are confessing in public. Fuck, dude. I would take that shit to my grave.
>>
>>98722595
>Political stance
You're a retard. To answer your general question though, it's just /tg/ and 4chan as a whole being subhuman contrarian filth. D&D is popular and is class-based so /tg/ is going to whine about classes like the faggots they are because popular thing has them, therefore bad.
>>
>>98722872
Why post on this website if you think nothing here is of value?
Why would anyone be embarrassed about what they post on 4chan? It's an anonymous site.

If you've never seen people talk about a game on /tg/ or post an ad for a game and said "That seems interesting, I'd like to try that" I don't really see how this website is helping your traditional games hobby.
I joined a game off gurpsgen and had a swordfight with a nazi on top of a moving tank while the rest of my party fought a rampaging frost giant. It was fantastic. Why would I be embarrassed to tell anyone that?

How is classes vs classless is a "political stance"? Please explain this so we all can laugh at your retardation.
>>
>>98723014
It's a gross oversimplification, but basically classless = communism.
>>
>>98723022
Classless systems are mostly played by straight white conservative males though
Communists only play games where the government (game designer) provide you with a set of roles that you must choose from that are guaranteed to fit the game premise. Free games allow a man to define himself and engage in the activity he is most interested in.
Communism is when you must choose between government mandated categories like "race" and "class". Freedom is when my psychic asparagus patch can compete in the marketplace of character ideas unhindered by designer interference

You know what, I suddenly don't want to know how you came to this conclusion. You do you. Have a good day.

I mean that is literally what /tg/ thought in the 2020 era.
>>
>>98723359
That is not what /tg/ thought in the 2020 era
>>
>>98722595
What are you talking about? The chant of 'GURPS GURPS GURPS GURPS' has been going strong for 20 years.
>>
>>98723411
What's with people thinking that can just push their headcanon or fucking recton everything? Especially when it was like a few years ago. Hell this isn't even like in the middle ages, we got recordings and whole articles proving them wrong. I mean it's like when the fags try to push all the woke shit as "WOKE 1.0." Nigga it's the same shit word for word
>>
>>98722595
I don't really know about any of that, I just make my games how I want because of the millions of "D&D ISN'T BAD CUZ U CAN REWRITE WUT U DUN LIEK" deflections that kill any constructive discussion about the system.
>>
>>98724118
why do you still piss your pants in every thread about d&d if you supposedly "make" your "games"?
>>
>>98722595
/tg/ has no opinions, no stances and no vibes because of your spam threads like that one. There are merely any anons left.
>>
>>98722595
For me, it's never been about class vs classless.
What interests me more is if the combat itself is engaging, and "roll dice or suck" doesn't engage me, whether it's a D20, 2D6, 3D6, a dice pool, or whatever. Give me options for skills, powers, and gear that have clear effects, not "w-well just beg the daddy master/storyteller or f-find a new group", and I'll play regardless of class or classless.
/tg/ is not a hivemind, never has been, and likely never will be.
>>
>>98725409
any recommendations for games who do give you those options?
>>
>>98725430
Ask yourself what you're supposed to do when you find any TTRPG lacking.
>>
>>98722595
No idea, I just like classless more.
Absence or presence of classes isn't enough for me to dis/like the game however, it's a minor detail and I had fun playing games on both sides of the spectrum.
>>
>>98722595
At least for the 18 years I've visited /tg/, this place hasn't had any kind of a general consensus about classes. It still doesn't, and class-based vs classless debates see arguments for both sides.
>>
File: 1753609353424418.jpg (123 KB, 976x850)

>>98722595
No such consensus ever existed.
>>
>>98725439
make your own. but that means i would know the design decisions after all ttrpgs which is impossible, but trying to cover a large breadth of them is a good start. so got any recommendations for the attributes you wanted to see in ttrpgs?
>>
>>98725603
You already said the recommendation yourself.
After searching through so many different systems, it starts to feel like a waste of time when every one is just "roll this many of that type of die and hope it doesn't suck", so I've made my own way that satisfies me.
I highly recommend anyone unsatisfied with their current TTRPGs to do that.

But anyway, the point of my post was addressing the fact there are more important factors of game design to consider beyond "does have classes" or "doesn't have classes", and I'm pretty disappointed that point was ignored in favor of questions concerning me personally, especially when I took the time to address OP's topic directly.
Any particular reason why?
>>
>>98722710
To what?
There was a time when /tg/ was unironically great, but everything that made it so has long since left these halls. Slow and inexorable pressures have eroded our mountains to pebbles, and even those pebbles will become sand sooner than any of us wants to admit.
>>
>>98725963
>Give me options for skills, powers, and gear that have clear effects
is what you said and i asked you if you had system recommendations since i am currently in the process of trying to find such a system
>was ignored in favor of questions concerning me personally
yes i asked you if you had any recommendations. assuming you were able to and already had assessed such systems. was i to assume that you are incapable of such things or are you just to inept at communicating to think that this is not a normal thing to ask and not engaging with the topic at hand?
>i took the time to adress OP's topic directly
well let us look at that shall we?
>what exactly happened that made one of /tg/'s more well known political stances (That classes are good and that classlessness is cringe) on it's head?
This was the question presented to you. in your answer to OP you surprisingly happen to talk about things that concern you personally.
>For me, it's never been about class vs classless.
The only part in the full text that could be considered an answer is the following
>/tg/ is not a hivemind, never has been, and likely never will be
which is 13 out of 85 words written (15,3% of the text) and as much as a nonanswer as you can make. so no i would not agree with your statement that you directly adressed OP's topic.
What you call having made a point was stating a personal preference, yet you lament the fact that people ask you about personal opinions while having brought nothing to the discussion but.

Pushing for a classless society is a pretty notable political stance, in fact.

Do you ever stop to think that maybe you are the problem? Did you ever stop to think that no matter how much you scream about changing mechanics and ignoring rules to your liking it's your culture that is so fucking insufferable?

If a troll manages to get you to reply, that's at least a 1/10.
You should just ignore bait that bad in the future.
>>
>>98722595
Its standard 4chan cynicism plus /tg/'s contrarianism along with the decade long march of the trolls on the board.
This is a non-exhaustive list of things we've lost on /tg/ at the hands of Trolls
>Storytime Hosts and their Threads
>Drawfriends and their Threads
>Questfags and their Threads
>A huge portion of the native lurkers of the board
>Decent jannies who kept the board mostly free from low quality shit-threads
>Trolls gave rise to Nazi Mod
>We lost the creative spark that used to reside in the place
>We lost the ability to Get Shit Done (tm)(c)
There's a lot more that doesnt come to mind immediately but those were the ones

Hey retard, this isn't Reddit. People can have differing opinions here without fear of being downvoted.
>>
>>98723022
Did you think this was funny or are you just really stupid?
>>
>>98734018
Nah, 4chan has its own version of downvoating, it's mass (you)s where all they do is call you a tranny. The more times someone calls you a tranny, the more correct you typically are though.
>>
>>98737275
>he believes in getting (you)s
I post my reply opening the thread in another tab, close that tab and close the thread. No one has ever been able to voice their discontent at me in the entire time I've been using 4chan. It's like when your parent calls your name and says nothing when you answer back with "what?" forcing you to come down stairs. I am right, I am explaining this to you and you don't get to talk back. You will seethe, I will move on and by tedious inches the ease with which I dismiss obviously untrue things will make lying on the board feel pointless. Classes matter, roleplaying matters, lore matters, end of discussion.
