>Vampires enforce the Masquerade because if you break it, the Inquisition will kill you>But the Inquisition is itself controlled by vampires and used to get rid of rival vampires>So the entire Masquerade is just vampires hiding from other vampires
>>98789107The SI is controlled by either the Celestial Choir or the Technocracy, depending on the ST.
>>98789131Not in Vampire the Masquerade.
>>98789143It's all one universe.
>>98789131Why would mages even care about the existence of vampires
>>98789147Ask the Technocracy why they've spend the past few centuries pushing all as many magical creatures outside consensus as they can. They did it to dragons, angels, and most fey. The other splats are all that's left.
>>98789169I mean technically dragons still exist, they’re just Beasts. WoD has that “Supernatural” thing going on where all the monsters of mythology just look like humans 99% of the time.
>>98789146Whatever game you're playing prioritises itself and deprioritises other games.Vampire the Masquerade focuses on the Inquisition as a product of vampires manipulating humanity that exploded out of control and does not explore it as something controlled by the Celestial Choir or the Technocracy.Mage the Ascension focuses on the Inquisition as a product of the Celestial Chorus that backfired dramatically against them and became one of the greatest weapons of the Order of Reason at the time and does not explore it as a product of vampiric manipulation.Someone talking about Vampire the Masquerade and playing Vampire the Masquerade has no reason to give a fuck about anything that Mage the Ascension says, unless they want to. Vice versa.
>>98789188>unless they want toAh, it all falls apart for you here. I want to. For me, it's an everyone is right mentality. It's mages and vampires. The mages just make more sense to be above the vampires.
>hunter goes werewolf hunting with bfg>werewolf uses gun-disabling gift>hunter grabs a big rock and bashes werewolf in the face>werewolf dies because genuinely wasn't expecting that
>>98789188I think the general implication is that Mages control the technology and culture of humanity, vampires control the politics and economics of humanity, and they both split the various branches of the military between them
>>98789195Cool, you do you. But if someone's just talking about vampires and isn't talking about mages, it's best not to assume that they give a shit about mages.
How well do yeren compare to werewolves? I mean, they're weregorillas, no?
>>98789185There's the in universe take that only those who could side amongst humanity or avoid them entirely managed to survive to the modern era.Dragons are one of those monsters where the real myth can be rather boring.
>>98789185I mean monsters of mythology looking like monsters are also the thing, it's just that they only really exist in the Umbra because the Consensus locks them out of the physical reality.
>>98789199>hunter goes werewolf hunting with bfg>werewolf uses gun-disabling gift>hunter grabs a big rock and bashes werewolf in the face>even if the hunter somehow does enough damage with the big rock to incapacitate the werewolf, the werewolf gets to frenzy to stay active and regenerate most of the damage that was just done>hunter needs to survive a turn of a frenzied werewolf in close quarters and do enough damage a second time to actually kill them in which case they're so insanely effective in close quarters combat that they must have been retarded to waste their time on a bfg in the first placefixed that for you
>>98789240>hunter still kills werewolf>another werewolf comes and bashes THEM with a rock>another hunter comes with another rock>rinse and repeat until they run out of rocksfixed it for you
>>98789137Order of Hermes (into Orphan?) was thought up because of the character taking inspiration from the main character of 'I Hate Fairyland' in which the main character is a jaded adult still stuck in a magical realm. Order of Hermes would be (one of) the driving force(s) behind the character becoming jaded and cynical. At most the Hermetic background would be a very short time.Though numbers-wise Orphan and Hermetic wouldn't really differ, I think. As for Spheres and Arete, we decided to start off with Arete at 2. Spheres I was thinking of taking would be Correspondence 1, Forces 1, Life 1, Prime 2, and Spirit 1.I do feel like I've spread out myself too thin here. Maybe move Correspondence 1 to either Forces of Life?I also took the Merits of Familiar and Avatar, both at 2 dots, and Talisman sitting at 4 dots. Familiar would be a big part in dealing with Paradox, I think. Also, cute picture.
>>98789131>The SIHow retarded you must be to bring this disgusting fanfic garbage that was already retconned out of reality by the same shitty writings that brought it? When people talk about the inquisition they're talking about the "actual" inquisition that existed in real life and in old wod lore. Not to the fascist dogwhistle of Achili and his cronies.
>>98789220Let's take a look...>Yeren Rules>Crinos: In Crinos form, Yeren have Strength +3, Dexterity +2, Stamina +2, Appearance –3, and Athletics +2. The character gains a bite and claw attack like Garou, but these inflict lethal rather than aggravated damage. Witnessing a Yeren in Crinos form induces the Delirium in humans.>The Yeren learn homid gifts and have begun to develop their own unique repertoire, although no Yeren has as of yet advanced beyond Rank Three.>Crinos StatsStatics Adjustment: Strength +4, Dexterity +1, Stamina +3, Manipulation 0, Appearance 0Manipulation -3 (First and Second Edition)Shift Difficulty: 6Size: Grows in in height by half and add 100% - 200% the Glabro Form weightNotes: The Form incite Delirium in humansThey look like a utility sidegrade but I'm probably missing something important that can't be supplemented with a level 2-3 fetish (mainly the way they lack aggravated damage)
So what’s Pentecostalism supposed to be? Traditions mages trying to re-instill the power of True Faith in mortals?
>>98789265>How retarded you must be to bring this disgusting fanfic garbage that was already retconned out of reality by the same shitty writings that brought it?Retarded enough to have nothing else to spin a yarn with or at least retarded enough to find them interesting in like Christian larper.I'm not gonna lie and say that I'm too good to have those guys in my games but there really isn't a good way to phrase "here's my antagonist, a shooter that got manipulated by the CIA into targeting their enemies who may or may not be vampires" for the fuckteenth time.
>>98789254what version of the world of darkness is this where your average hunter is capable of killing a werewolf with a rock

>>98789276Could also be Brujah trying to have their own home-grown inquisition to counter the Camilla’s
>>98789276Secretly controlled by the Bhalii
>>98789276Subfaction of the Celestial Chorus with similar theological doctrine. Some of them are actually religious Ecstatics like fundamental Mormons but you didn't hear that from me.
>>98789293The SI is not Christian. Their main weapon was never true faith, unlike actual inquisitors.
>>98789298it's caines rock which deals 20 agg, if one hunter dies the next picks it up
>>98789276All modern Protestant movements are ploys by the Technocracy to weaken the Choir's influence. Just like how neo-pagan witches blending pantheons and doing trendy rituals from tiktok aren't true Verbena.
>>98789300According to the same shitty writers who made them, the SI is not wod anymore. Just like every piece of shitty lore imagined in the last 20 years.
>>98789317not silver so werewolves get to soak it
>>98789327It wasn't retconned, it just ended.
>>98789329you won't soak 20 hl, not with any real werewolf build you bring to a table without the ST killing you where you stand
>>98789315>Vatican backed operations>Not Christian Sure sure.
>>98789320Nah, would be the other way around if anything, Catholicism generally adopts a very rationalist view of miracles and tends to downplay them if anything, modern Catholicism is much more of a friendly enlightenment-inspired religion. Protestantism, but Evangelicalism and especially Pentecostalism in particular, is much more inspired by emotional and Romanticism, the whole “everyone can do miracles” schtick with proof not really being required being much more up the Tradition’s schtick.
>>98789339this is a theoretical white room table where there are endless hunters picking up endless caine's rocks to pummel endless werewolves to deathwhat happens at a real table does not apply
>>98789350It's more like the Catholics can't afford to label something normal as a miracle without losing more credibility for a whole lot of nothing.
>>98789306Blessed are the meek, for they shall starve quietly.
>>98789350Catholics are trying to avoid paradox. The Technocracy don't give a shit if their apprenticeship blow up. Just hire 50,000 more.
>>98789372I mean the general MO of the Catholic Church today is to be as appealing to normies as possible. Cathedrals are expensive to maintain and they can’t rely on the funds of tradcaths to maintain them so the Church has adopted a sort of hybrid role as museum, cultural influencer, and religion. Even if you don’t believe in God a significant enough portion of people are still “cultural catholics” to keep things going even if many of the churches are empty most days.
>>98789391But the technocracy doesn’t want to break consensus reality. It Pentecostals were a small fringe movement that would be one thing but there’s 650 million members of the Charismatic movement now, that’s not “test subjects”, that’s pushing the Overton window on consensus reality (the consensus window?)
Pentacostals broke from ProtestantsProtestants broke from Catholics Catholics broke from Eastern OrthodoxistsEastern Orthodoxists broke from Miaphysitists or Non-Chalcedonians. So, they are the true Choir.
>>98788341>I want my character to be a mage LARPing as a magical girl, their paradigm a mixture of magical girl media (and hermeticism). You will probably be an Orphan but I can imagine everything from "Everything is Good!" to "God-Bonding" for a magical girl. Add merits like Inner Knight, Destiny and Blessing and you would have a fun character
>>98789418They broke from the Jewish faith all together.Which broke from Jewish pre-monotheist faiths. So, the Verbena are the true Choir.
>>98789418Choristers dont care, they are the biggest unity fags to the point they are using BCE to date their texts because some of their members are not believing in Jesus.
>>98789418Technically there was an ancient Roman version of Pentecostalism too known as the Montanists, but they got suppressed by the official Roman church that would later split into the Catholics and Orthodoxy.
>>98789431What were ancient romans doing in montana ?
>>98789262Yeah, you are spread a bit too wide. LVL 1 in a sphere basically amounts to fuck all, its a level where you can detect things (seeing ghosts etc) but you cant actually do much with it, unless you are comboing your spells hardcore or need that one dot to meet faction requirements.Lvl 3 is the point where you can do the stuff you expect you should be able to do, like shoot fireballs.
>>98789461What would you recommend? We are all starting with Arete 2.
>>98789427>the system the whole world has been using for decades
>>98789474nta but unless your ST will fuck with you, it isn't necessry to minmax or think too much about choices beyond what you enjoy.I suggest thinking about what do you want your character to be able to do in like...Session 10. Do you want her to be able to wield element, fuck with gravity, or energy? Get Forces higher.Want her to me master of chance, fate, destiny? Find weak points and deal with death and the underworld? Entropy.Etc etc.Personally, for me Magical Girls means big energy beams, emotions and defying fate. So Forces, Mind, Prime and Entropy would be my suggestions. Forces for all the energywork (including transforming stuff like emotions into power), Mind for the emotional side, Prime for all the magical enchanting and talisman creation and Quintessence storage and Entropy for chance manipulation and "lucky", defying fate stuff.
So what actually is the order of most to least shitty lives? I understand that Hunters are at the bottom and Mages are at the top, but how would you organize the middle?
>>98789511>Mages>Vampires>Changelings >Werewolves>Hunters>Promethean
>>98789474What do you want the character be able to do mainly, what would be abilities nice to have? Most spheres start to get really good at 3.Also consider that you have to pay for the familiar in quintessence, so may need a node or something.
>>98789010Eh, that's fine. Sleepers aren't people anyway.
>>98789511Least shitty?Mage: You are human+potential cosmic power. No inherent drawback unless you seek danger/attention.Mummy: Immortal with no inherent drawback. Only reason they are below Mage is because they can't reach the high of ultimate comfort that Mages can.Changelings: Banality is dangerous and your own inclinations might be inconvenient, but it is balanced by the fact that you are still a Fae. Just stay away from offices, schools and hospitals if you aren't a Grump.Vampire: We all know it. The Beast, the Curses, the drawbacks and the positives.Hunters: Everybody would think you are crazy. You are facing low odds of survival every time you attempt hunting and you will most likely die in a painful way. But you can always stop.Werewolves: Positives, you are a murder blender with spirit support. You have a huge support network. Negatives, you are a warrior for the fate of Gaia, on the losing side, and you will most likely die before you are middle aged and there is no turning back without being alone in World of Darkness.Imbued Hunters: Werewolf but you aren't a murder blender until the Extremist stage and there is no huge support network. Plus the inherent derangements the stronger you are.Kuei-jin: You literally suffered in Hell and had to escape it in the first place to become a Kuei-jin. Unlike Cainites, the moment you die, you are going to the Yama Kings unless you enlighten.Wraiths: You are already dead and unlike most dead people, you are stuck as a Wraith. You fate is most likely to be Soulforged or fall into the Oblivion. Very slim chances of transcending.
>>98789573Basically what I want are the "love love beam" attacks with flying/levitating and such. I would assume my character's Talisman 4 would help with all this.I have Node 1 so the familiar is taken care of that way.
>>98789594t. three weeks from walking into a caul or going full marauder
>>98789070I was thinking of Thi4f the other day. Before Splinter Cell shat the bed with that early 2010s game there were actually stealth games from big developers other than Hitman. After that and Thi4f, stealth basicaly died as genre for big devs other than Hitman
>>98789634nta but sounds like you will specilize in Forces and Mind, with Prime mainly.I also suggest talking with ST for chants as a focus. Since Chants can be important shit like that
>>98789070>>98789665Shitty game yeah but I've seen the cover used as a meme a few times. Using the other covers would probably be less obvious as anything other than a direct reference.>TQHeat anyone?
>>98789645>Caul is...le bad Suffering build character, son.
>>98789474Swapping Correspondence to Forces is a good idea, yeah. You can use a lot of different spheres to achieve the same or similiar effect, you can use Forces to fly too. Or Spirits. Probably Mind if you stretch it far enough.
>>98789634Levitation is Forces 2 and with Forces 2, you can also use beams of light to blind foes. You'll need to wait until you can boost your Arete to 3 and Forces to 3 until you can use Forces 3 to create harmful energy beams.Prime is another choice, since Prime 3 allows you to make energy attacks out of pure Quintessence and Prime is important for harvesting Quintessence for your familiar. Prime 2 can allow you to spend Quintessence to make attacks do aggravated damage instead of bashing or lethal, so if your character has a weapon of choice, she can use her magic offensively straight out of character creation.

>>98789107Nuance is completely lost on people these days. The "Inquisition" of VTDA got started by vampires with influence in the church using it to attack rivals with plausible deniability, true. But it very quickly got out of control. One of the chief reasons for this was the horribly short-sighted practice of embracing someone else so the hunters would think "we got the vampire" and move on. What this actually did was let hunters hone themselves on shitter vampires and worse, interrogate the confused fledgling, meaning that they knew they didn't actually get the elder, so the cycle repeats. Knowing more about vampires meant hunters could spot vampiric influence within the church and sidestep it, creating a massive threat that came around the time that vampire on vampire violence was reaching a fever pitch. This close call was a wake-up call for some vampires, who had gotten way too complacent during the middle ages concerning the Kine. "Don't run around screaming that you're a vampire" has been advice since the second city collapsed, even the methuselah that pretended to be Gods weren't advertising their true nature. The Masquerade is to avoid the retardation that is getting into an open conflict with the source of your food and resources. Because it's a war that even if you win, you effectively lose.
>>98789785I ported/syncretized the Mekhet from VtR with VtM's lost Antediluvian, Mekhet. I gave them a different curse loosely based on Hollow Mekhet fuckery because Requiem clan curses are usually far less severe than Masquerade ones. Haven't really touched anything about Caine/the first vampire besides myth, legend, and hearsay.

>>98790891vampire (gangrel merit), sorcerer (entire shapeshifting path), mummy (true name hekau), fae (naming can do everything if you can get it but the actual shapeshifting power in c20 is broken to the point where it does not work), demon (lore of beasts), mage (life sphere, life pillar or rune pillar) if you squint wraith (there is both a arcanoi that changes your corpus and you can skinride animals)
>>98790977thinblood's and (cainite) dhampir weren't a thing back then. the danislavs only existed in the 13th century and then got wiped out by the tzimisce after a failed rebellion (something something nothing cool survives the dark ages). while thinbloods only became a thing in the 1990s in the dark ages kindred just stop after the 13th generation as those couldn't embrace

Why are vampires weak to wooden stakes? The sun and fire are explained in the origin story, but not wooden stakes. The problem is Pathfinder was a game made for autists by autists who loved number crunching and useful gimmicks. So the sequel, more of a DnD 5E with crunch, doesn't appeal to any of the hardcore autists they cultivated nor can it really appeal to a new audience because most of them have been captured on the theater kid larp RP style of game.If Pathfinder 2 would just have been Pathfinder 1 with some of the RP flavor conveniences of DnD 5E like Warlock pacts or more involved feats, then it might have sold pretty well. As it pretty much is though>A lot of feats exist as feats for no reason>Scrap the concept of races and alignment partially for heritage>A lot of unsupported gimmicks in the rules>Less of the autistic build-making and number crunching that was in the originalIt's basically a textbook example of not knowing how to appeal to your audience.
