>thread question:
What are the weirdest autisms you have witnessed related to Warhammer 40k at the LGS, and of the online Warhammer 40k fandom?
And here.
>>
At the LGS I witnessed brown stains on around 70% of the chairs, here it seems to be the strange conversation coercion where certain subjects are off limits and only the most bizarre and unhinged are enforcing it and most of them have nomodels.
>>
>>98826235
>TQ
Haven't seen anything yet at the LGS. But I am probably the weirdest autist in the Warhammer 40k side because I think I would be as I'm socially inept and use this website. I am afraid of getting too excited enjoying Warhammer 40k at the LGS and then sperging out and coming across as annoying.
>>98826244
You gotta give us more details. This is horrifying yet beautiful.
>>
>TQ
The weirdest thing I've seen is some dude continue to infest a community that doesn't want him after being banned 200+ times

recently seeing people on X cry about Nids having no characters and dumbfucks wanting to turn Tyranids into Zerg

There's a reason Zerg is shit and boring compared to Tyranids. They're supposed to be aliens, making them more human defeats the purpose
>>
>>98826321
Zerg is aight kerrigan is pretty cringe though just because of the Raynor ex angle
>>
>>98826321
Yeah that's always been weird to me. People cry that Nids are the NPC faction, but isn't that the point?
>>
>>98826329
Zerg were better off before Kerrigan being some human voice for them
>>98826332
Nids are the army for people who like ants and bees and want to play them. Giving them characters and more humanity defeats the entire purpose of the faction
>>
>>98826277
It really boggles the mind. Being chased off from all forums... I wonder if the collage was promised to him 3000 years ago?

NTA, but a different purpose and intent.
GSC are humans turned alien from top to bottom. They are not the human voice of the nids, just more victims.

Knew a guy at my old LGS, let’s call him Timmy. I knew Timmy from around 2013 to 2017.

Timmy played the gusted. Timmy had an amazing army of Guards. Amazingly painted, each modeled uniquely, not a single one wasn’t unique from its brothers. He even named them all. On the base of reach was written Pvt. Heaton, and Spc. Long, and Sgt. Fulton, and a dozen other names. It was an amazing army. But Timmy had this weird habit. Sometimes, in the middle of a match he would start crying. Not sobbing, not screaming, just a few tears down his face. He’d normally excuse himself to the bathroom before anyone would see, bird I noticed. And there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to his crying. Sometimes he’d lose half his army and be laughing the whole time. Another time he would lose barely a couple troopers and tear up, it made no sense.

Anyways, I got to know Timmy. We became friends once we figured out we had both been in the Army. We’d go out for drinks. And one day I finally work up the courage to ask about the crying. He was embarrassed, of course, but since we were both vets he told me the truth. He had named every unit he had after someone he had served with in Iraq. He did multiple tours over 2006-2010 and had served at the height of The Surge. The vast majority of his army were people who had survived. The three who didn’t were the ones he’d cry over. If one of those there died, he couldn’t help but cry.

I was obviously flabbergasted. I told him that this wasn’t healthy, that he shouldn’t doing this, that he should be doing some form of therapy. But he just smiled at me and said that 40k was his form of therapy. That even when Pvt X died on the table, he’d come back for the next game.

Timmy moved away in 2017 and we didn’t keep in touch, which I greatly regret. I still keep a lookout in online battle reports for some Imperial Guard units with names on their base, hoping I recognize a name and can talk to Timmy again.

WotC actively hates its customers and I don't mean that in the "raising prices" kind of way because every company does that
>call the pinkertons on some dude that legally bought product that was put out too soon (by like a week)
>refuses to reprint staples, their precons are 80% worthless filler garbage
>currently removing product lines to filter you into buying either chase packs or $100+ "collector" packs, the regular drafting packs/boxes are being removed
>$1000 anniversary packs that aren't legal game objects
>union busting (although this is sadly the norm in amerifat companies)
>sets that are projected to sell badly have their minimum purchase quotas raised for LGSes to keep their partnership, if you walk into an LGS today there is a 100% chance you'll see Spiderman boxes on the wall that will never sell
>no warranty
>D&D is the dogshit lowest common denominator game system
>their mtg cards are only usable in their own game, they produce no equipment, hobby tools, or supplies that are actually usable outside of their game's ecosystems
>they don't create binders, storage, or card protectors for their own cards
dropping MtG was one of the best things i ever did. maybe some day I'll look back with regret on how much I spent on plastic but the assembly and painting aspects feel like I'm actually accomplishing something. D&D and MtG don't provide anything like that at all, you just own shit and maybe sell it when you're bored.

So everything points towards me picking up the new custodes combat patrol when it releases next saturday. I mainly paint and play mesbg or older fantasy editions, I've never played 40k and only know about eldar, which was my second option, so I have no idea whether to build the guards with sword and shield or spears. I've read and watched a few videos but it seems to be a split decision between both. I guess the question is am I ever going to need 6 of one specific version? Should I magnetize? And on the same topic, how easy to magnetize is the dreadnought? TIA

Magnetizing a Dreadnought is one of the easier magnet jobs due to their size. Magnetizing Infantry is rarely worth it, especially when kits don’t have dual build options (like the new Custodes seem to lack) Custodes are hyper elite anyways so unless meme spam lists become viable you probably can get away with getting only one of each kind of guy.

Yeah it is worse but only marginally imo. I don't like that the old one didn't look very techological/scifi at all. Don't listen to the anon saying magnetizing infantry isn't worth it. It's worth it if you care. It's not worth it if you'll say that one dude is a proxy for a different load out. But then you'll have to remember which is which so you're not accused of cheating. That, or you'll have to buy more models to cover all build options you want to play. Me personally, I magnetize because I make use of all plastic I buy. Infantry magnetization isn't hard, it's just tedious. Pick a polarity direction and STICK TO IT FOR ALL MODELS. Same polarity for horizontal directions, same polarity for vertical directions. You'll never have an issue with weapons attaching because trust me, getting those small disc magnets out after you super glued them into place is a real pain. I play Eldar, some of the smallest models in infantry and I've successfully done tons of them

I have been looking at kitbashes and different paint jobs for the AoS/40k demon prince. It is really hard to decide on a faction or paint scheme to go for; this kit has so much potential. I have some Chaos Knights armiger weapon bits coming in alongside a NoS demon prince. For example, pic rel looks so damn nice; the jetpack conversion of the backpack fits really well. What I am saying is, shill me on CSM factions, I guess.

Obviously a lot of X vs. Tyranids books don't lean into this sufficiently, but the thing about squaring up against them is that you aren't fighting a CSM warband that you can inflict meaningful losses on and potentially cripple them as an effective fighting force, or whatever, you're essentially a bug fighting against somebody's thumb coming down to crush you, and the best you can hope for is to give it a wicked bad papercut that momentarily dissuades it. Having named characters outside of white whales like Old One Eye or having the bioforms needing to communicate with each other on a squad level would diminish them.
>>
>>98827362
Demons are lame, nids are cool, it's not about the mystery or the scariness, you're doing that all on your own, and you're missing the point, which is straightforward sci fi action with no dramatic bullshit or other nonsense. If any other faction is like tyranids it's orks, but where the two differ is that the orks have comedy as side genre, while nids have documentaries.

But you're the kind of fridgeless nigger who thinks the only reason to like a faction is found on some power scaling tierlist from reddit.

That would explain how Ouroborus was created by the Moloc guy.
I only know that because Ouroborus is awesome and has an amazing set up in the story right now about gaining temporal powers.
also it's the best color scheme

>That would explain how Ouroborus was created by the Moloc guy.
That's a bit more complicated, because there are actually two ouroboros(/ouroboris), the one we have in the codex is a reference to the forgotten fleet pages of the 3rd or 4th book, the one made by the moloch guy was conceived as a color scheme for the nid conversions in the anphelion project that he did as a favour, and later dubbed ouroboris as he kept doing stuff in that scheme.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying: tyranids solely exist to shoot. They're an npc faction that can fill the gaps of the galactic shooting gallery. They have no bearing on 40k and never will unless gw wants to be supremely retarded and end times the far future. You can cope all you like, but tyranids and demons are the same thing: a target. They're both lame.
>>98827407
>But you're the kind of fridgeless nigger who thinks the only reason to like a faction is found on some power scaling tierlist from reddit.
Power scaling is for marinefags, but your shitty argument has nothing to do with that, because if we operated on that paradigm then tyranids will always be at the top, maybe only second to chaos because you can't just clean up the warp. Tyranids suck because you can replace them with any other faction for something more interesting to kill.

GW went out of their way to say that Cadia established colonies on other moons and worlds to keep their population after losing their home world.
Yes, they also did this to a lesser scale with the people of Armageddon in older editions (Minerva, most notably) and then coincidentally forgot about that lore when trying to squat the Steel Legion recently.
Cadians will never die as long as GW keeps trying to coalesce more armies onto the marine "one model, different paintjobs" product design.

Easy to make them catachans

I know you can paint/kitbash them that way, but making them Cadians was a fuck you to regiments known for fighting nids in the jungles/forests.

Realistically there isn't any reason cadians are so dominant in the first place. The variant regiments were guys like Elysians who are drop troops, Tallarn who are desert cavalary etc. Steel Legion would have been an easy pick for all the stuff Guard actually did get end of edition/beginning of 11th. Guard is being worked on by people who don't understand Guard and the glup shitto self-inserts.

IRONIC that diversity for them is just having female models, painted black, instead of actual regimental and cultural diversity like the troops from planet africa who are lead by general butt naked.

ultrasmurfs are worse in a different way because they're missing 'unique' datasheets like Tyrannic war vets, because GW does the " you can't do special stuff because it's not codex asstards approved" but the non-codex chapters like templars and wolves get a bunch of fucked up crusaders and werewolves and blood angels get ritually humiliated. The trend towards Cadians getting 90%, Krieg 9% and the rest fight for the remaining 1% has ruined the guard aesthetic, there are no 'variant regiments' to retreat to.

You could even fix it by not releasing entire boxes, but halfassed upgrade sprues like raven guys and white pimples get.

The real answer to the Cadian question is to just make every new AM infantry release be from a different regiment, like these guys are Vostroyans, these guys are Arkhans, these guys are Tallarns, etc. and anybody who wants their army to be cohesive can just suck it up buttercup with kitbashing, 3D prints, etc. until GW gets with the times like the old men they are and sets up a well-ventilated warehouse full of resin printers cranking out dudes on demand for people willing to pay a premium for the convenience of not just playing Bolt Action like they clearly want to

Trust me, if I could find as many people willing to *TRY* Bolt Action or K47, I'd be playing those more often than I play 40k. Infantry aren't a waste of points over there like they are in the guard.
People by-and-large are just not willing to go out of their comfort zones to new rules and new games, so 40k became the compromise option.

I've heard enough horror stories (for the other person) about, e.g., the 180 Poxwalkers meme list to know that, like comrade Stalin said, quantity has a quality all its own.
