I just went to play my first ever game of 40k at my local todaymy opponent roll multiple 6 so on the first turn advanceSo i did a turn 1 waah and just throw everything midboard somehow manage to win by 5 points
Thousand sons need to be removed
>>98835338With the new fight changes it seems like just going all in as quick as possible is a decent strat now. If you can be the one who makes their charges first you pretty much win the game

>>98835354Thank God. Personally the worst rule.
>>98835366Give them some foundation at least
>>98835354So fight first doesnt let hitting the guy hitting you first during your own charge anymore right?it used to let the defender attack first but now its the same but attacker with FF attack first then enemies with FFthen alt between the attacker and defender until every engagement unit attacked that turn?unless i'm understand this wrong?
>>98835364goalposts starting to move now lol
>>98835369alternating creates grey areas where yeah sometimes it lets them actually fight first in charges but it's mostly for ongoing combats now. sometimes fights first is a negative where you have to pick them next even if you don't want to.

>>98835369Your unit gets FF on the charge. When two units have FF the unit owned by the player currently taking their turn goes first.

GW in 2012>>Warhammer 40,000 may be somewhat different to any other game you have played. Above all, it’s important to remember that the rules are just the framework to support an enjoyable game. Whether a battle ends in victory or defeat, your goal should always be to enjoy the journey. What’s more, Warhammer 40,000 calls on a lot from you, the player. Your responsibility isn’t just to follow the rules, it’s also to add your own ideas, drama and creativity to the game. Much of the appeal of this game lies in the freedom and open-endedness that this allows; it is in this spirit that the rules have been written. Now>OMG guysss GW nerfed my Detachment Stratagem I'm going to [redacted]>the game looks like shit 99% of the time and nobody cares

How many 40K wikis are there now?Do they all contain the exact same information?
>>98835369Yes. There's two phases of fight phase. The fight first phase and then the non fight first phase. You have alternating activations. In 10th the guy who started first was the player whose turn it was not on. In 11th that was changed to be the turn of the guy whose turn it is right now.Charge gives you fight first so as long as you charge into a fights first unit you will get the first activation. Only if you charge into two fight first units you get to fight first with one of them. And then your opponent can fight first with the other unit. And off course if the fight first unit survives for all the other fights they start first since you are no longer in the fights first category.

Like imagine if necrons didn't languish 9 years with barely working rules, TWWB would not cement itself as hard as it did now that every edition they're promised to have it.First they tried le grudges but pretty undwarfy aesthetics, now we got corpo aesthetic and somewhat rules but the jank is clearly going against the grain that one of the popular detachments is 3-currency flip on demand. >>98835820Yeah, they're fully contained and healthy biomes. Plenty of the books talk about gardens, forests, lakes, even "seas" and beaches. Craftworlds are supposed to be the size of small moons. >>98836664It's from loanwords often swapping u,v,f and w symbols and pronunciations as well."Lieutenant" is a wholly French word, so when the English court swapped to the English language in the 14th century instead of the weird mixture of different French dialects they used before, a lot of pronunciations got fucked up when translating, one of those being the written u in lieutenant becoming an f.You also have to include the Normand and Aquitainian peculiarities in their dialects that the English court inherited between 1066 and 1300.You can see this u,v,f,w swap in other languages as well, like in the Russian "avto" vs "auto" in the original Greek.

>>98836827>I'm unironically worried I'll never want to bring it to a game because of how heavy it isMeanwhile I used to run 6 PE, along with a spam of sisters.
>>98836852Don't know about plastic recast molds specifically, but yes, you can absolutely investment cast your own metal miniatures using molds made from appropriate materials that will withstand having molten lead poured into them.
>>98836852Yes you could recast out of metal, casting pewter isn't hard, the hardest part is making the cast itself as an amateur who doesn't know how to lay out a metal cast.Be mindful of melting temperatures and heat retention, if your recast moulds aren't able to handle the temperatures needed for pewter/lead/tin, it obviously won't work. You might want to scrounge around the internet for advice on metal casting in general, it's a very niche hobby but it does exist. I own a lead chess set that was made by my Boy Scout scoutmaster on old school 2-part steel casts, those people still exist and will have the info you want/need.
>>98836248Will attached guard still kill their commissar if they fail a morale check?
>>98836870Pewter is a lot easier to work with and only gives you stannosis instead of making you retarded.
>>98836852Technically yes, but not really. Plastic behave differently than metal when casting, so molds need to be different. You'd need tome engineering knowledge how to do that. But sure, if you have time, money and enough determination, then yes.

Idea: Armory world that doesn't produce many munitions but acts as a planet-sized storage facility for various fronts. The admech & munitorum personnel pride themselves in being only 10 years late to respond & deliver goods, mostly due to the fact that they've thrown out many of the requests made based on arbitrary criteria and random chance. The fabricator general is in good with the inquisition and often gets commissioned for custom made arms & armor from rogue traders, who see his gear as a status symbol that doubles as a reliable weapon. Of course, things aren't all cushy as a cult has existed in the underhive since M39, only kept at bay by the fact that the cult has divided into subcults that can't decide on a single god to swear fealty to. Undivided cultists are seen as fence sitting pussies. The world may not be a paradise, but for the most part the segments that aren't dedicated to storing enough bombs, bullets, and 'blades to Cadia the planet are pleasant enough, with cool weather and many untainted waters.

>>98836852Not using moulds meant for plastic no. How do I get a 40k gf?
>>98837882You know this wench is against giving head
>>98837882You compete with the other 50 dudes at your lgs
I finally have a job that pays well enough for me to start my own army, be honest with me anons how is the state of 40k for total newcomers right now? My LGS is somewhat dooming and glooming about it but the same number of people still play every week.
>>98837894I would pound that girl through the mattress, a proper hate fuck, because she reminds me so much if an ex and that would complain about giving a blow job while expecting you to make her cum 3 times eating her pussy.
>>98837913It's fine, I just started the hobby myself maybe 3 months ago. Is it expensive to get in? If you look at it all at once, yes. But when you're starting out it's going to take you a long time to paint your first few units, especially if you experiment with and refine your techniques. Don't worry about the rules. By the time you finish your first 1000pts they will likely be different. Just get what you think looks cool. Models are forever, rules are temporary. Buying used also helps the cost somewhat, though it depends on your local LGS and market. You can also go get recasts from Ivan or Mr. Xi.
>>98837913People bitch and moan about how shit 40k is every time the rules change, which amounts to "continuously" since they get adjusted every few months, but none of them switch to model-agnostic alternative rules like OPR. Curious.Anyway, even if things are rough now, by the time you get your guys assembled and painted most of the glaring issues will have been patched and there'll be new glaring issues for people to whine about.
>>98837882Typically you can junction your GF at a save point
>>98837882This woman has HR eyesLike she can't wait to make a rule against washing your meal prep containers in the break room
>>98837930>but none of them switch to model-agnostic alternative rules like OPRFor all the complaints about nu-40k having no flavour, OPR has even less.
>>98837913It depends on the army, here's what my list costs at MSRP. But again I've collected stuff over the course of two years, and got many stuff from the used market and kitbashed some. I probably spent about $600 or so.As always never buy directly from GW, most retailers have a 20% off from the MSRP.There's the cost of hobby supplies though, you'll be spending about $200 on paints, brushes, primers and so on more or less.
>>98837937Only so much you can fit on one page, I guess.I've always seen the game primarily as something to do with your minis after you're done painting them and an excuse to hang out with fellow hobbyists in a structured environment and show off your work, so the rules have to be pretty bad for that to no longer be viable.
First Blasters status: ready for basing. It has been a long and arduous process, but we are almost there.
>>98837938>my guard lists are cheaper than a GSC list at GW pricesGrim
>>98837938>notoriously expensive armies like GSC are still about the same price as a Glock, an optic, and a case of FMJ practice ammoI'm starting to think that Warhammer isn't actually expensive, people are just broke as hell
should they bring back necron pariahs?
>>98838002It’s about who’s interested in Warhammer generally. Warhammer (especially in Europe) attracts kids and adults alike. Affordability is felt more there due to the wider range of consumers. Here in America, Warhammer is much more an adult’s hobby, and while price increases suck, the breakpoints are much higher before it becomes a dealbreaker.
>>98838002That price is just the models, not any paint, brushes, basing, cement or any other supplies you'd need.To continue the gun parallel, it's like if that Glock cost $1200 before you even get ammo, and you still have to take it to a guy to have the slide milled for the optics cut (and pay him) and then buy your optic on top of that.
>>98838002Compared to other adult hobbies. Warhammer is cheap. Have to understand that a lot of people into tabletop gaming are jobless.
>>98838012Makes sense.>>98838021So in the neighborhood of a decent "duty grade" AR15, then.>>98838029I've heard how long 2000 point games take, and I can't imagine scheduling that around a full-time job and buying groceries, mowing the lawn, etc. so that tracks
>>988380392k point games take a maximum 2 hours. Unless you are getting slow played. Then you are more than welcome to call that cunt a faggot.
>>98838039My 2k games take about 5+ hours, sometimes more. It's more of a social thing rather than just playing the game, checking the rules, looking each others models, chatting with the onlookers. Takes an hour to get to my LGS from my home, and since you'll spend the entire day out we also go for lunch. Basically an event that takes my entire day.
>>98837759i fucking love khorne
>>98837913It sucks so bad right now GW is down 25% on their stock price, they wiped out half a billion dollars over the last 6 months
>>98838039it gets faster the more accustomed you are. Just pre-agree what lists with despositions you're both playing so when either gets to lgs you can start setting up already and not figure out which shitty terrain setup to use. Then the most part is measuring shit and checking visibility if you both know your own rules and combos at least
>>98837930>but none of them switch to model-agnostic alternative rules like OPRProbably because that dogshit is even worse than 40k.
>>98838039>decent "duty grade" AR15, thenI'd put it a few hundred over that if that's still like $1500 like it was before I stopped caring about ARfaggotry, but yea close enough to get the message across>how long 2000 point games takeThe longest I've done was 5.5 hours, and that was both of us playing horde armies.>>98838040>2 hoursPlease tell me how I can make a game take 2 hours with all these infantry on my table and having to roll 30some odd dice every time they get shot at because of weapons having so many attacks now and things giving extra dice like blast, sustained hits and rapid fire
>>98837913Ebay is your friend. Especially if you're willing to buy preassembled/primed stuff and strip/break it down. For one of the more frequently-played armies or one with a recent big box you could probably get sub-$200 if you're willing to wait and put a lot of work in.
>>98837973Nice work, love beakies
I have a pistol and an ar, and I also have 5 40k armies. I would say the 40k stuff is by far the better hobby. I spend much more time thinking up lists and looking at fan art and playing the videogames and painting and I even get a few matches in the average month. Meanwhile with firearms I just practice competency a few times a year and I don't think about it much besides that and for the most part it sits in a safe. I post on 40k forums constantly but I have never once posted on a firearm forum. I have a well painted army that people comment on and I get to talk painting all the time, but no one has ever come up to me to say "cool gun". I proudly display my armies in glass travel cases, while my firearms are in a safe and the pistol is under the bedside table. So if I was deciding between the two, I would definitely go for 40k.
>>98838080You have an AR and—I reasonably assume—a double-stack striker-fired 9mm with a grip made out of black plastic. No shit nobody's bothered you at the range about them; buy an AUG or something if you want attention, or go shoot competitively where people can see your setup and how well you run it.
>>98838052That's the whole stock market except for the ai companies.
>>98838080>no one has ever come up to me to say "cool gun"They would if you owned guns that aren't bog-standard, and more importantly if you went to places where other people talk about guns instead of just shooting. The range is not a place to make friends.Go to competitions, have "for fun" guns. While I also have my "basics" covered, I'm a milsurp guy at the end of the day; I've run 2-gun competitions with an AR and a G19, I've also done them with a Mauser and a P38. People will talk to you if you stand out.Don't pick hobbies based on how much people talk to you about them, pick hobbies based on how much (you) enjoy what you're doing. And before anyone says it, yes I play guard, I'm not beating the allegations.

>>98838080Why do you fags always claim your army is well painted but never post it?
>>98836708On a very tangentially related note I'm pretty sure I discovered why GW decided to call the Primaris standard bearers "Ancients": turns out the British Army used to use 'ensign' as the lowest rank of commissioned officer, and they were typically given the duty of carrying the regimental colours into battle. Sometime vaguely around the 16th century 'ensign' got corrupted into 'ancient', and so you have 'ancient' referring to the lowest rank of officer who carries a flag into battle - AKA the exact description of the Primaris Ancient.

>>98838456compare it to 1ksons where a single squad of 5 terminators is 200pts
>>98838477It's not a coincidence that all the least popular armies are the most expensive ones. But some army archetypes are always going to be more expensive to produce and purchase than others with larger model counts.
>>98838454Custodes are the welfare army in every way, GW intentionally makes them this way to get people into the brand. They don't care about "equal attention" between armies, and they are deathly allergic to trying to play into the value proposition comparison. It's just "how do we get more sales" with as little thought and as much short-term planning as possible. The current guard combat patrol is 285 points. 120 of that (42.1%) is horse cavalry. If GW wanted this combat patrol to be a GOOD purchase, they could increase its point cost by 40 and just swap the 10 Attilans for a Leman Russ. But they won't, because it's just moving inventory that didn't sell. Most combat patrols are like this.

How would you model an Ordos Xenos aligned imperial guard force specifically tailored to fighting tyranids?I am feeling inspired after reading the Anphelion Project imperial armour book by forgeworldI'm thinking maybe sealed hazmat style armour to better protect them from toxins/organics/their own chemical weapons and a focus on flamer/chemical weaps. Imagine a black, armoured hellhound spewing green fire into a horde of nids
>>98838523>How would you model an Ordos Xenos aligned imperial guard force specifically tailored to fighting tyranids?Votann but taller
>>98838511Are you just playing dumb or do you genuinely not get itThe point of me saying it in the exact way that I did, with the exact words that I did, was to say that if given the choice between>100 dollars every day>300 dollars every other dayGW would pick the 100 dollars every day despite the basic math suggesting you'd make less money this way, suggesting that they as a company have an incredibly high time preference and are short-sighted. That's what the words "short-term planning" refers to.
>>98838521Thanks, but for what it's worth, nothing in that pic is particularly advanced. Just staying within the lines and edge highlighting, skills that are very easy to get good at.
>>98838496>the army with amenic lore and characters, and zero presence in any games or campaigns is supposed to the one thats an entry pointcrazy, but i guess its even crazier they make eldar this expensive >>98838518 while still shitting on them in the lore whenever they can
I will not elaborate further (Pretend Marines/Orks/Custodes are their 11th Edition boxes)
You know what 40k needs? It needs to be cool. Fuck all this "boo hoo i'm a sad bitch" lore storytelling with complex characters, i want pure nonstop action with major shitshows like an Ork Waagh, a major Hive Fleet (Behemoth comes back cause red nids are coolest nids) + the biggest GSC outbreak, damn near every imperial guard regiment at the same time, at least 1 million space marines, damn near every class of space ship out in the planet's orbit, craftworld biel-tan, every bit of chaos, the votann and their not!unicron planet eater, the mechanicus (including that one Man of Iron that pretends to be a servitor, who then goes ballistic and its cool), 3 custodes who are still fighting without their armor (they got blown up but tanked it) and a whole coven of sororitas, all fighting whatever they see on sight and doing cool oneliners all while the planet is cracking in half and the only reason anybody is there is damn near meaningless other than funneling every single battle into a single planet (The rest of the galaxy somehow becomes peaceful relatively speaking) and everybody dies at the end but the last scene is the last one fighter of each army using their last bit of power to raise a banner.
>>98838535Don't sell yourself short, at least for some of us painting that straight and clean like that is a long road, sometimes with physical hurdles.
>>98838544Shit list, I will not elaborate further.
>>98838531>That's what the words "short-term planning" refers to.That's not short-term planning if you maintain monopoly, this is why MS easily got away with any bullshit, Millenium, Vista, Internet Explorer, X-box One etc and etc.GW's priority is stable flow of income, not some 6d chess, to get slightly more money (they can do it with annual price hike)

>>98838559Kek, I love that video
>>98838496The point of them is to technically provide a "discount" but to not actually make the value good enough that anybody would buy multiple or buy them to split up and resell. The old IG start collecting for example was good value but it also meant there was basically no reason to ever buy an individual infantry squad or leman russ kit
>>98838579All numbers are at GW prices>guard combat patrol is $177>Kasrkin and Cadian Command Squad on their own is $116.50>Attilans are $67.50 per 5The ONLY reason to buy the guard combat patrol is if you want to run a 10-man unit of Attilans, who are extremely far from the meta and I have never seen on a table, even my own.As it stands, there is no reason to buy the guard combat patrol, so we're instead at the other extreme.
>>98838523The hazmat suits are a good idea, but chemical weapons are particularly bad against nids in lore, in very old editions they were even immune to poison and most types of gas. Flamers are actually not great against them either because it takes a little while to fully burn one to death and if in synapse range they just keep fighting until they die, so unlike other armies like orks or humans which run around in panic and agony while on fire, Tyranids just continue ripping you apart while also burning you now. What you actually want are weapons with good logistics (mutli-lasers, lascarbines, stuff that has high ammunition efficiency/rechargable batteries) for the swarms, and high stopping power and armour penetration for the bigger bugs. Remember actually beating Tyranids entails killing the synapse creatures, which are often huge monsters as big and tough as Custodes or Dreadnoughts, so you need elite-killer gear, with just enough anti-swarm to keep the little ones at bay until you manage to kill the brainbugs.

How much corpse is corpse starch? Is it legit bodies ground up into pink mcnugget paste or do they perform some process that separates out the nutrients from the people parts?
>>98838639It's the former. Necromunda has an entire faction of workers who collect and process corpses for the starch.
>>98838047>Angron, and his brother, Angriaron
>>98838639It's the Imperium, which is notoriously so shit that people will submit to the Greater Good for two hots and a cot, so I assume that it's mostly starch with the minimum amount of "corpse" possible to meet the labor/war units' protein needs.I.e., they're not engaging in straight cannibalism because human Spam would be too luxurious for Guardsmen and factorium workers
>>98838639It actually varies, which is the answer to most of these sort of questions. Different planets have different types of corpse starch. We have some examples where it's literally bodies, but we have other examples where the human corpses are mostly used as fertilizer for what ends up being a mostly mushroom/fungus based canned food.
>>98838639Considering the whole "prion disease" thing and the fact it's called *starch*, chemical reorganization to the base nutrients as a powder is the only "realistic" response, and thus would be wholly unrecognizable as being made of people. But it's also made up and doesn't have to be realistic, so it's asspull of whatever the current story wants it to be. It's one of the more grimderp things anyway, frankly, and I find it detracts from the setting via believability. There are more efficient ways to get food in places, but those aren't grim and dark enough, so we have to eat corpses instead. No amount of "the Imperium is despotic and evil" can make up for objective reality on space-efficient protein sources like legumes (ie peanuts) that can be processed and transported en masse far easier than corpses.
>>98838600What makes corsairs unique compared to craftworlders or deldar?

>>98838639Depends on the planet, or more likely hive, in question. Not every imperial society has its people living in giga-oppression misery, you see some people living basically normal middle class lives in the Eisenhorn series, for example. But in hives and manufactorum worlds they would absolutely grind people into paste and work 18 hours shifts.
