What do you often do to break your procrastination and stay focused on painting your models?

I just sit down to paint and then hopefully it goes from there where I get into "zen zone." I sometimes get into the "zone" where I end up mumbling to myself as I paint my 40k imperial guardsmen. Like I am on a livestream dictating tutorial steps to myself. It makes me look schizophrenic. But I'm enjoying myself.
>>
It'd be nice if the 2027 codices were released this year

I don't. I pay someone I know who is a much better painter to paint my armies for me.
>>
>>98847451
GW leaks like a sieve and the codex has to be finalized like 6+ months in advance for printing, so I'm sure a couple of them will be.

Never. I assembled 15 infernus mariens today to avoid painting.

If you mainly play the game, keep your paint jobs simple so you can go back to the game. Paintfags that don’t play? Idk nigga. Figure it the fuck out

I took a week off, but I’ve come to the horrifying conclusion that posting here helps motivate me to paint my models. After that, then finding something good to play as background noise usually helps. its an extremely visual show, but colombo’s voice is very nice to listen to.

Now I wonder if Mado Guchimoto might be a serviceable artists for anything Warhammer 40k if GW wants to try and get more Japanese salaryman money for the Black Library books if they ever have the autism enough to sell Black Library manga. He might be able to cover the guro elements of Slaanesh, but his cartoony style may be out of place for others.

I remember an older Warhammer 40k thread where anime artists were mentioned. Hetza Hellshock was mentioned.
Kouta Hirano was mentioned if he wasn't lazy.
Kentaro Miura was mentioned if he wasn't dead.
Nihei Tsutomu might be good for the scale of the environments of Warhammer 40k cities, fortresses, etc.
Hiroya Oku for machinery that I think might be heavily edited 3D renders unless he is that good.

After I got wrecked by orks in my first game, I played a slightly smaller game of sisters of battle at 1,500 and it went alot better. I learned from my mistakes of last game and used the first turn to just stage and keep my infantry out of firing lines behind cover.

This game was vs csm and we mainly fought over the two expansion objectives. Things went decently back and forth until morvan vahl's unit clutched out a kill on a maulerfiend and a daemon prince. I got a narrow victory on secondaries and by playing using my tanks to keep the charging army at bay for just long enough to squeak by. Funniest thing that happened was I rolled 5 1s in a row on shooting and just had a giggle at the bad luck

Played any games recently, 40kg? I got in TWO (2) games today

>Warhammer Redditors being themselves again
Realistically how likely is it to encounter one of these types in real life at the LGS? I don't think I've ever run into one at the LGS so things seem alright.
I don't think I'd engage in a debate or try to own one. I'd just avoid him if he gives off undeniable Reddit vibes.
Why are these Warhammer 40k followers of the Reddit variety like this?
>>
>>98847562
Because they are secondaries and tertiaries. If they had that big a problem with the setting being "problematic" they wouldn't drop the amount of money in new army costs.
>>
>>98847562
Less than 1%
I actually go to a variety of game stores, and all the stereotypes are completely fictional. The only accurate one is you get fat people (including me), but that's hardly a surprise. You read shit about how
>oh bro this fedora wearing anime nerd totally lost it when i countered his spell
And you just know that shit didn't happen
>>
>>98847501
Feet!
>>
>>98847571
>that didn't happen
Have you been to an LGS? I saw a 30+ jobless fat retard have a meltdown mid tournament and sold his army that day.
>>
>>98847584
I've been going to LGS' for years, this shit simply does not happen. Then again I don't live in America, maybe you guys are more prone to it. The worst I've seen was magic players being distant, but that's hardly worth complaining about
>>
>>98847569
I sometimes wonder why the social media side of the Warhammer fandom. Especially the Warhammer 40,000 social media side hasn't made a big trending hashtag to have the prices lowered using progressive talking points. I doubt it would work, but it would be funny if it makes GW do something even if a stupid move.

>>98847571
>Less than 1%
I figured it would be so.
I haven't been to the LGS in a long time, but the community seems pretty relaxed.
>oh bro this fedora wearing anime nerd
Is that stereotype still up to date? I think the fedora trench coat atheist nerd look has been replaced by something else. I'm not sure what the replacement is.
>>
>>98847587
I don't live in America. But to pretend that a LGS doesn't have absolute creatures is amusing. Maybe it's (You) and you're in denial.
>>
>>98847571
The one thing I've consistently heard about compfags is that 99.9% of them are great sports who think that e.g., your Stormsurge rolling really well and one-shotting their Baneblade is just as sick as you do and will actively coach you on the best ways for you to make their best-laid plans not survive first contact with the enemy.
>>
>>98847571
You've never been to Skyfox in Oshawa. The star perpetually reeks of body odor and has an atmosphere of pathetic stagnation. Anyone with standards went to the GW in Ajax if they are looking for WH or Hobby Ninja in Curtis for TCG.
>>
>>98847591
That's true, and there's this weird effect where when you're better than a beginner, but not as good as top players, you get this real arrogance. Not everyone suffers from this, in fact most people don't, but some people do and it's weird, like the most vicious and lippy opponents are the ones that play bad.
>>
>>98847599
>this weird effect
Dunning-Kruger, aka "Mount Stupid"
>>
>>98847599
NTA but I think you're on to something.
While it is a little comforting knowing that the negative stereotypes are far rarer in real life than they seem in the Warhammer 40k LGS communities. I do fear being the sperg that validates some.
>like the most vicious and lippy opponents are the ones that play bad.
This is very much true for me when I was a kid playing vidya. Though I was also an arrogant shit back then who got easily hurt when called a "hacker" instead of taking it as a compliment when I got good at some of them.
I fear returning to that when I get my army assembled for gaming Warhammer 40k at the LGS.
>>
>>98847599
It's called the Dunning-Kruger effect but people reference it way too often now and it's kind of lost it's real meaning.
>>
>>98847611
>Dunning-Kruger
That might be it. What are some specific Warhammer 40k examples of dunning kruger in action at the LGS be it in games or painting?
>>
>>98847614
>Dunning-Kruger effect but people reference it way too often now and it's kind of lost it's real meaning.
Like media literacy has lost it's meaning? I'm not sure what the flanderization of media literacy has led it to.
But what has the flanderization of Dunning Kruger led it to? Especially with a Warhammer 40k LGS context?
>>
>>98847623
Not that poster but I would wager Dunning-Kruger in the context of LGS attendees would be "your standards are so low you don't even realize how bad it is".

Side projects.
Sometimes the procrastination is from getting bored of painting the same scheme and basing over and over.

So I grab some other mini, and do something different (The GW minis of the month were good for this. or just pick up that one mini you like from another game/faction that you're not into enough to build a whole army of).
Purposefully using different colours, trying different techniques or styles to act as a sort of hobby palette cleanser.

But they don't actually know the tactics of hour to drive such a list on the table or adjust their play to other off meta armies and so frequently lose with a strong list.

"BT/guard players are nazis" has always felt like something that's only held as true because it's "always" been held as true. When I was putting together the heavy bolter turret I 3D printed I had intended to leave the turret part free to rotate on top of the base. But when I glued the part that has the tabs that slot into the base I forgot that superglue instantly hardens when contacting water and the parts were still wet from where I'd cleaned sanding dust off them. So as soon as I slotted the turret onto the base to check the fit, it instantly glued in place. Luckily it's only like 5 degrees off centre so nobody will notice, but it sucks it can't rotate now.

its more the other way around is the old stereotype
"Nazi's play BT/Guard"

Even then its current form is a very online thing. The BT guy who actually shows up at your LGS is not a nazi and no one who plays there thinks he is.

An actual nazi is too busy jorking it to interracial porn to have other hobbies and is too cringe to be nerdy in public.

I go and hang out with my brother. He’s really into scale models and creating kitbashes for his own dystopian setting. I always bring something to build or paint, and every time I leave I get pumped up to do more at home, and go on a hobbying binge for a week.
I think modeling and painting with other people, sharing a table, it just gets you motivated. You should all be going to any painting gatherings at your local stores if they have them, or just bring something to build.

The melanochrome organ is there to give marines an instant tan that protects against radiation in general, and you can't get hair cancer because the follicle is, you know, part of your skin.
It's not unreasonable that it'd make whatever hair was actively growing at the time pitch black, but as soon as they left the high-radiation environment it'd shift back down to their normal pigment (unless they're Salamanders), so if anything you'd get space marines with completely natural raccoon tail hair corresponding to how rad their deployments were

It's the end result of the "everything is political" move in hobby spaces; it wholly lives online (as most of the "culture war" does), which is why you see it on r*ddit but not in reality.

To these "people," military history autists (the overwhelming majority of guardfags) can't just like how things look, every single thing MUST be a political endorsement of the people who made the thing in question.
>t. guardfag

Youve gotten really trigger happy with this shit to the point of it being annoying man I’m not decal that was an inane-ass post
I’m just looking forward to LotD especially since I like kill team too
>>
>>98847888
Space Marines notoriously wear helmets or not based on vibes, and often get shot in the face in a way that forces them to ditch the helmet if they were wearing one in the first place, and I've read at least one book where a Marine had to strip to his space britches and rely on his mucranoid glad to survive hard vacuum long enough to squeeze through a tight space and do a thing, so it's relevant way more often than you'd expect
>>
>>98847979

What's special about the new tone paints?
>>
I wonder since they “broke the seal” on reintroducing paperback rule books if the Deathwatch will get something. Demons could comeback too if this was the case.
>>
>>98848013
Apparently they contain poison to discourage people from drinking them, and you can apply them in one thick coat and still get serviceable results.
>>
>>98848013
Good coverage, good flow and consistency. Same shit pots though, the only negative I’ve experienced. Price too, but you’re buying Warhammer brand paints but that should be a given.
>>
>>98848013
they're retard proof; you can slop them on out of the pot unthinned and have your model not look like total shit
>>
>>98848029
Remember painting well has always been a low IQ physical talent that even brown street vendor subhumans can “master”.
>>
>>98848035
If it's so trivial, I'm sure you have heaps of gorgeously-painted models to post—right?
>>
I have a question. So Space Wolf unique units can only be lead by Space Wolf unique characters?

Like, I could take a Chaplain in Terminator armor and do a bit of conversion to make him look like a Wolf Priest in Terminator Armor, but there's no Wolf Priest in Terminator Armor data sheet, so he can't lead Wolf Guard Terminators, right? Or I could get an Ancient, model him to be a bit more wolfy, but he still wouldn't be able to lead Blood Claws, right?
>>
>>98848038
Pretty clean after this comment that you lack the mental faculties to even comprehend what I’ve said so I’ll let you live in ignorance as the pathetic pleb that you are.
>>
>>98848040
Fantastic meme anon
>>
>>98848047
it's not a meme, I just want to make sure I understand how Space Wolves work before I get annoyed about a weird distinction between Space Wolves units and generic units that discourages kitbashing
>>
>>98848040
Nah, you can have a regular Chaplain in Terminator armor leading Wolfguard Terminators. A Wolf Priest in Terminator Armor doesn't officially exist. The chapter units are for special chapter rules, you’re still playing Space Marines.

>>
>>98848040
Wahapedia says Wolf Wolf Termies can be lead by generic Chaplain, Captain, and Librarian Terminators as well as Arjac Rockfist and Logan Grimnar, so you'd run your proposed model as a Chaplain in Terminator Armor and have no issues.

Help me decide how I paint my Custodes lads
>Want them to be /mydudes/ since every other army I have is pretty much some existing GW colorscheme except some Votann stuff I've yet to paint fully
>Idea for the Shield Host is that they're an ancient group committed to the old ways so much that they rarely if ever take on new recruits and mostly inter their existing forces into Dreadnoughts (Basically I want to go heavy on the Dreads).
>Want to keep the Gold as the primary color, so no black/white/etc armor, primarily stumped on what to paint the fabric/plumes
>First thought was Gold/Purple, but that's already a thing with the Aquilan Shield and my knights are already Purple/Brass
>Gold + Black is winning in my mind currently, would give off Garo vibes
>Gold + Ivory/bone white might be cool for the fabric and large flat areas on the Telemon, but I'm not sure if it'd look good for the plumes
>Gold + a Jade Green might be cool too, something like the aged copper on the Statue of Liberty

tl;dr, Gold+Black, Gold+Off-White, or Gold+Jade Green?

Gold with verdigris to emphasize how, uh, "venerable" they are is definitely not a colorway you see a lot with Custodes
Maybe a pale gold and a faded red or purple for the cloth bits like they've been standing guard out in the sun for thousands of years and haven't taken proper care of themselves, maybe out of contrition for failing at their one job 10,000 years ago?

This hobby is too expensive, and it is wild that I'm considering buying a 3d printer for this. That's a whole another hobby by itself. I'm getting a 2nd hobby so I can afford the first one?! Aaaaaa

>>
>>98848316
We had this discussion, or one very much like it, a few threads ago; compared to other adult hobbies (like guns), 40k is not terribly expensive, even if you're buying whole 2000pt lists at MSRP all at once (don't do that, it's stupid on multiple levels)
You should have a 3D printer for other reasons, anyway, though
>>

Try having a highend PC. For the price of an rtx 5080 you could have buy 11 combat patrols or 7 battleforce boxes. and then you still have to buy the rest of the PC.

or a car or a boat or model trains. It's a hobby, it aint cheap.
