Now that Street Sharks is coming back (With a new younger-audience aimed show a la CGI Masters of The Universe almost a gimmie given Mattel needs back up for that show flopping.) would a Mighty Max revival work in this day and age?
>>
>>10935660
MM as portable pocket playset won't do very well today since every kid has a smartphone now. They tried bring Poly Pocket back and it failed. If Mattel were learning then they make the characters as MOTU origins crossovers like TMNT. Skull Master, Norman, and the original Cap Bearer would be and easy fit.
>>
>>10935726
>They tried bring Poly Pocket back and it failed.
I still see them. Even saw a few at Quickchek the other day.
Not to mention micro-sets are starting to slowly crawl back between these and Jakks Mario playsets.
>>
Max's mom got me feelin some kinda way
>>
You think Norman would be black?
>>
>>10935742
He’s got reddish hair, so definitely.
>>
>>10935660
No. The toys are too expensive for kids or even for collectors.
And i dont think that Mattel would do,the roght measures to make it successfull.

>>10935726
I dont think that it would work as action figures. Only as exclusives for collectors or MM fans. And Polly Pocket is successfull. They still sell them and i think they make new sets as well.
>>
>>10935660
we already got a 30th anniversary set this year anon, and the continuation is currently being released by the new owner of the franchise
>>

>>
>>10935660
Unfortunately I think these things just have too much paint and small parts with unique tooling needed to be affordable for modern retail. They’d be expensive.

Yeah, you tell that troon to go seethe! You aint mad,you right tho.
>>

MM failed because it didn't have a solid theme. It's all over the place. Which is a big part of the fun, but then no one knows what it is. It's an anthology of adventures. Street Sharks is Ninja Turtles, but Sharks. He-man is Conan meets Flash Gordon. Mighty Max, is great and all, but it's not summed up in the same way. It's like quantum leap meets choose your own adventure and that's a stretch and not simple enough to sell well to normies.
>>
>>10939077
we really need a Bluray release
>>
>>10940014
I disagree. Mighty Max is Goosebump but with one hero fighting the monsters.
>>
>>10940221
if you really want to argue the difference between Choose your own Adventure and Goosebumps, then you're only highlighting my point of how MM is hard to define.

MM is easy to define Horror situations. Goosebump, Tales from the Crypt is it. Choose your own Adventure is very different, it seems that you dont know what it is. The difference is that CYOA is a game board thing and Goosebump,is telling horror stories at the camp fire.

I seem to recall Goosebumps had a CYOA book(s) at one point.
>>
>>10940014
>MM failed because it didn't have a solid theme. It's all over the place.
That was actually part of the business model. Remember MM was made as a male Polly Pocket. And Polly Pocket followed the Barbie formula of putting Polly in different roles/themes. Princess, mother, school teacher, swimming pool etc. Max was meant to be a generic hero with the gimmick of portals to be able to go anywhere so playsets coudl be made about anything.
I got into MM because I liked Dinosaurs then I liked the brand and got more. I'm sure others got into MM because of Frankenstein, or the Space Ship or the Dragon. sets and then bought more. Yeah MM was horror themed butit's not like it was meant to appeal to kids who liked horror, it just followed the PollyPocket formula.

what killed MM was that its success brought competition. MM showed toy companies there was money in micro playsets and everyone and their mother started making them. You had playmates bring the Ninja Turtles, Bandai bringing Power Rangers, the biggest selling toy brands were now competing against MM. Other companies used their licenses like Mattel making Superman/Batman micro playsets, Marvel also had them. Micro Machines brought in tons of licenses including Star wars, Jurassic Park among others. Godzilla, every major movie like say even independence Day would get them. hell even Pokemon got them. MM just couldn't compete against so many big brands, it's main selling point was copied by everyone and their mother with bigger marketing and name recognition.
>>10941192
yup, Give Yourself Goosebumps, just as popular as the main series. the mid 90s was full of choose your own adventure books.
>>
>>10941192
yes, and Choose your Own Adventure did Choose your Own Nightmare. Really it's semantics to try and correct someone on this. Goosebumps feels more monster/Halloween center and Choose your own Adventure is, well Adventure. Combine the two, you got Mighty Max. Mighty Max very much fits in an anthology type series, like Outer Limits and if someone were to argue "It's more like Twilight Zone"....fuck off.
>>10941249
>MM just couldn't compete against so many big brands, it's main selling point was copied by everyone and their mother with bigger marketing and name recognition.
Yea, those brands were defineable. I agree, Mighty Max had it's time, but it push through because it didn't have anything to fall back on. The endless creativity and go anywhere nature of it is supremely fun. It's harder to market than; sewer, eats pizza, turtle shell. It lacked strong consistent theming and brand awareness and thus marketability. It's kind of what killed He-man. He-man isn't as Conan/Flash gordon as was said, it also got all over the place. It tried to be everything, which when you try to appeal to everyone, you lose the people that were into you. Kids franchises don't usually get a lot of life anyway. Still, you can look at what was successful or had a longer life and see why.
>>
>>10940968
>Exteme autism
Cant be, because i can sense and read that you are butthurt. What you maybe mean is that like Goosebump and CyoA Mighty max has no stringent plot that connects all playset themes or monsters. It kinda is a random thing.
But thats mostly just the typical adventure and daily monster show thing. I see it more like a Power Ranger with its daily monster or Monster in My pcoket were it is about variation than having one theme combining the wave like Ninjago for example.
>>
>>10940770
>Stock Car Racing
>80 days around the world
>Cowboys
>Surfing
>Transformers
It is just a typical book series that combines boardgame or RPGs.
Dont play dumb that there is a difference between adventures and Campfire horror stories. It has crossings but it is not that similar.

If you see MM like Power Rangers, than you are seeing things that are not there. Monster of the week is the same heroes, same powers, same B-roll, same setting, with a new monster. If your brain is able to feel as if this applies better than Quantum Leap, than yea

I read some, i have to confess i watched the tv show more.
But you cant deny that Goosebumps is more a horror thing and CyoA books is widely adventures that you can play like a game. I agree that there is an overlap but thats just the adventure or mystery thing.
I can see that MM is using that too, but it is much more like Goosebumps that tries to be horror or disgusting.
Thats like saying Inhmanood is just Master of the Universe.

MM was more of a variety of different aesthetics IE

Fantasy and adventure: Doom Dragon, Skull Mountain, Palace of Poison
Horror: Skull Dungeon, Cyclops, Lockjaw
Sci-Fi: Wolfship 7, Cyber-Skull, Scorpion

I got my "Singular Point Mighty Hat" Cosmic Cap from BBTS. Absolutely love this thing, the packaging uses a set of 4 dot tapes that, whether intended or not, make it resealable so you can keep it displayed as is. There's even an instruction illustration behind it. Received it with the inner tray slid so it's not seated completely perfect, but absolutely goes well with the OG Shrunken Heads. You can see Max's knife forming one of the teeth when closed, and I love how the inside both mimics the portal in the opening and has Thor on the 'floor'. Max's detailing is also phenomenal, though that pose is weird. Fits well in the feet-slot though.

My two complaints are the price(Given the size, I'd say it's somewhere between 5-10 bucks too much for most people to justify) and that the plastic's a bit too smooth/light. Really hoping that the Doom Zones/Mega Head become more available, but not holding my breath. Might buy the other still available options though.
>>

I got the toy, so not sure your point? Other options were PeariA's website or Robot Kingdom that I've seen. The latter always charges ridiculous shipping, the former I didn't hear was finished until after I got the toy and wouldn't have trusted to pay direct.
>>
>>10944154
I still find it hilarious that this guy has spent so much money making these yet never once bothered to talk to someone who speaks English to proof the shit they have written on the card.

Anyway, the new upcoming shit looks insanely cool. Sewer croc, the slime gingerbread man, the cultist innawoods wendigo thing, all looking insanely good.

Sucks that Mattel would NEVER give away their in-house IPs except for stuff like Funko Pops no matter how much they don't care about them (They're even now caring about Street Sharks due to constantly fucking up reviving Masters of The Universe every single time with a new cartoon highly likely).
Imagine if a company that actually excels with detail like McFarlane or Lanard got the rights.

I love the cap set this guy did. it's truly a love letter to MM. I think its worth the price for all the effort.
As much as I want to support the guy, his other stuff reeks too much of fan fiction. The hero is now Robin and he's fighting christmas monsters? and the price is the same as the other sets? I mean that's not MM anymore and I won't bother with the lizard set even if it looks great as well. I mean if he made more MM stuff I'd get it, especially if it's reproductions or stuff baed on the anime or more alike the actual franchise not fanfic stuff.
Love the cap set and regret not getting the warmonger megahead reconstruction he is making, you had to preorder a year ago..

It's not only that, it doesn't feel like MM. Like it comes with little lizard grunts? It doesn't seem quite like MM. The price is also going to be like $100 or more so it's a pass. I'd rather just get a rare vintage playset around that price.
>>
I feel like people have fond memories of the cartoon more than the toys.

And the cartoon was lightning in a bottle. Tony is gone, Richard is gone, Tim is...retired? I think? Let it rest in peace.
>>
>>10945505
no way namefag. The cartoon was never a huge hit, the few kids that watched it remember it fondly since it was pretty good but most didn't even know it existed. Had the cartoon any impact we would've seen wave 4 sets instead of it being cancelled.
Most people remember MM as the male polly pocket the playsets were huge etouldn't compete like it says here >>10941249 the impact it had on the toy industry was felt for the rest of the 90s.

it had the same amount of episodes as street sharks. It was doing well enough the writers thought MM would get a season 3 and push for 65 episodes for syndication. Low toy sales killed the cartoon, not the other way around.
