I can't believe they bothered reissuing that Shattered Glass set. It sat and sat and sat because nobody wanted it the first time around. Anything to avoid reissuing stuff that people actually want I guess.
>>
>>10955453
They pulled out the Earthrise Prime molds for his rerelease, they probably thought they might as well make the most of it and do reissue Shattered Glass while they're at it too.

Got a headless Metalhawk for $5 at a discount store that moves unsold merch from other places it buys in bulk. I had a spare T30 Brainstorm laying around so I borrowed his noggin for now, but does anyone know if someone's made a model of his real head for printing? I imagine there are enough headless Metalhawk's floating around now to necessitate one.

I don't mind the design (I like it even) but as a toy this desperately needs more color.

In addition to the headless Metalhawk they had a Towline loose in a box for $5, I brought him home and figured out why he got returned: a busted elbow. I cemented in a bit of plastic cut from a highlighter and that seems to do the trick, I also gave him a Deception badge because I think his colors fit them better. I imagine this punk would be buds with Hardtop and intend to pair them up like Runamock and Runabout.

It looks... okay, I'm cautiously hopeful. I still think the idea of an origin story for the ability to transform is pretty lame, but I'm hoping it doesn't last long and they can just transform for most of the movie. And the dialog was pretty meh, some really obnoxious marvel-tier humor going on. The action and visuals look pretty great though

This is so offensively, outrageously BAD I'm legitimately taken aback. It's like, if Earthspark was given a movie budget and the execs told them to dumb it down for toddlers instead of children. Holy fuck.

And the fact that they had to butcher Exodus of all stories for a shitty adaptation which features the same childish demeanor as those mass-produced Marvel movies, that might as well be tantamount to blasphemy.

And the fact that dumb fucks who do nothing but quip and parrot retarded jokes and spam emoticons are the only ones praising this slop in the comments just shows what kind of audience they have in mind.

Jesus Christ. It must be an outlier that the 18-21 boys around me have inherited their interest in similar things to previous generations. Everything from classical works, to mid-century, to early 2000s to 2010.

It looks like Earthspark The Movie, not so good
>>
Watched it... and I'm shocked. I was totally ready for a furrowed brow to be my companion through this trailer, to just be bored and dismissive with it.

But I...don't hate it.

I'm not seeing anything that's got my motor revved, but already seeing some promising possibilities (was that Airachnid?).
- I don't hear the VA doing "that voice" for the character, which as a "THIS IS NOT THE FUCKING 80'S!" movie is a good thing. I love Peter Cullen's work, the sincerity I hear when he is Optimus... but this is NOT G1 OP, and this "feel" of a movie would have been ill-suited had it utilized his wonderful gravitas.
- I see from the rest of it and others' comments that my very first thought on the orbs was wrong: "wait, all four of them get A Matrix?!?" (but, T-Cogs... OK, less slapful for me), but I'm still feeling a bit 90's nostalgic from the "Alpha (Trion), recruit a team of teenagers (service bots) with attitude!" scene. If those are T-Cogs "giving them powers" (transformation AND weapons), then that's totally Zordon handing over some morphers.
- The "have to learn to transform" seems fitting for the scenario to me, unlike how dreadfully handled it was in Beast Machines.
- I can see where people are getting Guardians of the Galaxy vibes... TF has always been a space opera, if not directly adjacent.
- The aesthetics of the bot modes are Prime / Earthspark to me... it's not the worst, but the faces are like... weirdly cartoonish to me.

Overall, I've gone from "gonna pass on premise" to "even if the trailer over-promised and it winds up being awful anyway, this will definitely be worth seeing in theatres with my not-so-little-anymore collector."

I'm pretty sure Orion gives a throwaway line during the trailer that implies that cybertronian miners aren't built with functioning t-cogs, I agree with everything else though, I'm feeling really worried about how the full thing is gonna come out

The whole reason humans are despised in the films is because they're used for relatability and comedy. So here's a movie that eemoves the humans, but is now making the Cybertronians relatable and goofy. They have no idea what people want. Same reason they made the last film goofier with mutt protags and a tranny voice actor. Big suits who are detached from everything making bad calls.

Young kids like role play items and character masks are a thing for movie lines. Might as well make the gimmick on brand.
I don't think they're the greatest toys ever but I can see the appeal more than say the Titans heroes stuff. Like if you're going to have an inaccurate robot without the alt-mode, at least have it do something useful. Getting a 2-in-1 toy as a kid makes it feel like you're getting something extra.
That said I'd find it cooler if it was city bot/planetformer heads or something you could use as a scale item in mask mode, but those would be way more niche at retail

I feel like this is going to be a good movie, but the trailer really takes every single joke and edits them together in a highlight reel. Both spoiling a lot of good jokes and making it seem like it’s going to be way more humorous than the overall tone will probably end up being.

I’m curious what’s up with the conspiracy angle. With cybertronians living underground and not allowed on the surface for whatever reason. That could be interesting.

Being a new universe means nothing when they've already shown some of the 13. Half of them become pointless without being the origin for certain aspects of transformation.

We get one trailer and people are having meltdowns over the comedic moments in it.

I think people really underestimate the brand damage AOE and TLK did to the brand - which is saying a lot because the first 3 weren't great.

They shifted directions with BB and ROTB - but public perception remains built around the Bay movies. TF One NEEDS to be marketed this one to really hammer home that it's a totally different type of film and it's unrelated to the live action movies. They need to win back a lot of people and need to get more young fans to grow the brand again.

I've also got SG Jetfire, Rodimus & Armada Prime. I only compared it to UM since its the most recent. Rodimus is good but terrible value for money. I got him for less than half price so it was worth it in the end. Jetfire is the only commander class after Magmatron now that made me not feel bad for paying close to rrp to, they are both so good. Armada is great as well but I am not a big fan of the design so its just okay for me.
>>
TF One toys so ass

Why would you want this Prime lmfao, just buy VNR

It's a design of a skinny Prime with minimal articulation and ugly colours and an ugly alt mode, but since it's new I don't doubt Hasbro will make $50k off it just like Legacy Lockdown did in 4 hours
>>
After what seemed like an eternity, my local walmart put all of the unsold Iguanus legends figures on discount for like $6 a pop. So I finally bought one.

Decent robot mode but the gun/sword handle was crap and the bike mode even moreso.

They really should just limit Pretender figures to being just RED type legends figures based on their pretender shell modes.

>Are the mainline figures good now?
Heavily varies as others have mentioned, though part of it comes down to what universes they're doing; HasTak have some internal biases and prioritize getting some right, while not caring much for others. It's not a hard and fast rule, all generalizations here, but insofar this's what you can expect:
>Consistently top-quality figures
Galaxy Force/Cybertron, Bumblebee Movie, Micron Legend/Armada (sans the first 2: Starscream & Hot Shot)
>Varies on individual level, but generally safe bets
G1 and Beast Wars, JP-G1 and JP-BW, comic-exclusive designs (Marvel/IDW/etc), apparently Rescue Bots now (only 1 toy in mainline so far, so s'hard to judge, but is good)
>Compromised designs in artstyle
Animated, Prime (for the original molds)
>Low budget and/or poor designers, but sometimes passable
SSGE (so far just the WfC game)
>shit retools only
Car Robots/RiD2000, Prime (the rest), RiD15, Cyberverse
>What toys?
Bayverse, Beast Machines, Super Link/Energon

I started collecting the live action movie figures and I cant help the fact that it really soured me on the other stuff, badly. Reason being basically your post. There are so many that are so lacking in so many ways…but with virtually zero limitations. Compared to the movie figures, the G1 shit looks like baby blocks. The alt modes the robots must reach are so many times simpler than the live action stuff, they basically have no excuse for every figure not being perfect and packed with all modern articulation (none of them are)

He's okay, but left me feeling disappointed. A bad alt mode is one of those things I have a hard time forgiving, though I think my standards are reasonable. For the most part the moviebots have had fantastic alt modes with only a few "what the fuck is this" exceptions (AoE Galvstron comes to mind, though I love him)

Am I the only one here legitimately addicted to buying transformers? I’ve purchased at least one transformer every day since March 21st. I feel like shit if Im not buying Transformers. I even sometimes wake up with some type of a hangover from obsessing over them all day the previous day.

>>
>>10957286
My wife got laid off a little over a month ago so I had to put it on pause, but in March I went on a nutty spending spree due to stuff like FOMO. I bought a whole ton of shit from United, BWVS Dinobot/Tarantulas, C-01 which I honestly felt regret ordering even when I got it but eventually came around to loving it. That is stacked upon buying 2 Mafex that I felt literally nothing over when they finally arrived so I'm probably selling them. Then there's a bunch of stuff like Magmatron and Tidal Wave coming up soon. I also cannot stop feeling temptation to buy more BWVS since I got this pack and I want to buy Legacy Override to go with Metroplex and Starscream. I need to be stopped.

>>10957289
Getting too many figures too fast absolutely destroys your ability to appreciate each one properly. Even if you have nothing else going on except to sit and play with your toys, still there is no way to take them in the same way as if you just get one at a time. They dont have your full attention. People joke about it being plastic crack but its absolutely true. Ive been carefully examining how I feel and thing before, during, and after purchase. Ive been told its better to want something than actually have it and its difficult but there is truth to this. Lusting after something truly is half the fun of it. You get a hard dopamine hit when you purchase. But that goes for any spending addiction. The base level psychology on shopping addiction is that you are in control during the purchase and likely feel like you are not in control of other aspects of your life. For me, the biggest dopeamine hit is opening the figure. Its only when the figure is really awesome that drip continues for a long time. If the figure is disappointing it causes a crash. Both outcomes make me need the next hit.

Tracked down these guys after I saw >>10955037 last thread and realized they were the only ones from the Golden Disk Collection I didn't have. No idea why I skipped them before, but they're fun - if a bit small and simple.
I love Road Ranger's colors, and the way his gun and shield make up his truck bed is pretty cool; what I'm not so fond of, however, is the way both his and Puffer's hands are just kinda hanging there in plain sight behind their cabs, as well as how there's a hollow gap directly under the cab/above the front tires where the arms plug in for robot mode that's basically just a straight hole right through from one side to the other (not really visible from this angle. They're still pretty neat mini-trucks, though.

I tried to fix the scuffiness on transmetal cheetor's cheetah back but it just comes off looking weathered. He's the only transmetal I have that has the worst chrome. I'm not sure if I wanna try buying another for almost 40 dollary doos. I want this one specifically because it's the show one.
>>
>>10957768
why are you """people""" so retarded
>>
>>10957824
it's POSSIBLE you could fix it more satisfyingly with one of those chrome gold markers, but as someone who has attempted to use those to recolor the golden disks, it's JUST as possible to ruin it (it comes off with alcohol, but you'd take more chrome with it from rubbing). You have to basically commit, charge up the paint with a lot of clicks on a surface until it's just dripping the make quick and decisive strokes knowing that going back will probably ruin it.

also I think cheetor's chrome is a paler gold, wouldn't be a perfect match.

I was gonna say, the other reliable way to get nice shinies is to lay a metallic layer down first, then a layer of clear paint

You truly think there's something novel about your complaints? Do you think your rage is unexpected?
Every new form of Transformers media has been met with the accusation of being the worst of all time. The movies are no exception.
The Bay films were accused of "desecrating the character designs", and every subsequent entry was alleged to be the worst one yet. Even the original movie was decryed for killing so many characters, and for looking "too Japanese".
This movie will end up being somebody's favorite Transformers story. They'll reminisce about it with other fans, defend it vociferously from it's detractors, and when some new show or movie comes along that's too different for their tastes, they'll say it's the "worst ever".
This is how it's always been, this is how it will always be.

time moves so quickly for me now, that they seem to decay way too quickly. I have to imagine that was similar even as far back as when toys were made of wood and tin.

>>10958033
That's mostly an issue with more complex toys and pins. I have many older figures. They aren't in perfect shape, but being careful and some light application of shock oil will go a long way into preserving them.

The bigges5 problem with toys is mostly anything pinned, since plastic shrinking will inevitably cause that area to develop stress marks. It really becomes a huge issue on more complex toys since they tend to make many thin pieces use pins, making it very easy for the whole part to break off. Everything from MP Megatron 2.0 and onward will likely start crumbling once the plastic starts weakening.
>>
>>10958033
This is definitely an issue with newer toys than older toys. If you get your hands on any unicron trilogy figure from a used lot, unless the previous owner was a little kid that intentionally broke his shit, they're still rock solid to this day. Sometime in the mid 2010's, transformers quality just nosedives. The quality of the plastic they use is worse, they don't chrome coat the pins before setting them in hinges, so they rust a lot faster, they rarely have paint aps anymore, if they do, the rub off from handling.
>>
>>10958015
I only have MP10V, but it's still one hell of a toy even with its flaws. None of the successor options (at any scale) really hold a candle to it for my tastes. 3P stuff comes with the usual 3P caveats, and both MP44 and the mainline Optimus Primes released since MP10 are underwhelming to me at best.

Wrong colors, wrong kind of bird, doesn't even have a vaguely similar shape in either form, and she's got organic bits mixed in that Filch doesn't have. This is like suggesting using Beachcomber as a stand-in for Ironhide because they're both four-wheeled vehicles - there is literally nothing in common between the two.
>>
>>10958090
True, but that mold looks better than the official filch.
>>
>>10958098
Looks better...how? Don't get me wrong, I think they went with a horrible choice for a mold with the official one, but at least it resembles her - and again, that Airazor doesn't look even remotely like the character in any way, so I don't see how you could think it looks 'better'. SHe'd need extensive retooling to get her into an acceptable state, but that's not what was stated in the original post - they want to just 'repurpose' her as Filch, meaning use her as-is, which just doesn't work.
>>
>>10958102
>at least it resembles her
Note I didn't say its a better representation of the character, I said it looks better just because the transmetal Airazor mold already looks better than legacy Airazor. The awful headsculpt on the filch retool doesn't help.
>>
>>10958105
>Note I didn't say its a better representation of the character, I said it looks better just because the transmetal Airazor mold already looks better than legacy Airazor
But then the comment isn't really relevant - the Transmetal Airazor looks better than the Kingdom Airazor, sure, but that doesn't correlate to it being a better looking mold for Filch. I can say that Earthrise OP is a better looking mold than Siege OP, but that in no way means that Earthrise Prime would be a better looking mold to use for Bumblebee - they're entirely different on all levels, which is the case here with Airazor and Filch.

Its a decepticon fembot with a dark bird altmode, thats close enough for that anon, repurposing standards can vary a lot depensing the collector.
>>
>>10958122
Generally,, when repurposing one character for another, you try to pick something that's visually similar to who you're trying to represent. There's nothing similar here beyond 'bird', but just as there's many, many, MANY different kinds of cars and car-formers out there, there are many different birds and bird-formers, and anon wants to substitute a Jeep for a Corvette because they both have wheels.

>You have to basically commit, charge up the paint with a lot of clicks on a surface until it's just dripping
Really bad advice.

>be me, buy expensive TF on ebay
>wait
>it arrives
>paint blemish
>touch it
>the paint completely wipes off the entire surface
>wtf
>message seller “hey did you try repainting this”
>”no.”
>lie.
>seller refuses a partial refund “id rather have it back”
>sit on it a couple days, decide to fix the paint job
>99% done, it looks great
>open ebay, go to cancel return, finger is literally on the button to close the return
>realized I touched my paintjob and put a microscopic blemish in it
>quick touch up no problemo
>paint pen explodes with paint, covers like 30% of the figure
Fucking shit. I am so fucking pissed off right now
>>
>>10958133
that sucks dude i'm sorry. I have had them overflow before, but it seems to be kind of random. that's why I said "on a surface" like you do it there first, until some oozes out, then you wipe that onto the figure. I've never successfully gotten the paint to flow smoothly and continuously, you have to basically just keep stopping and starting the flow again. Then again I didn't get the super high quality ones, I got Pen-Touch brand.

>>
>>10958136
The way you worded “dripping wet” part is the bad advice bc thats always gonna cause a mess. The paint you put on the surface pulls more paint out of the nib.

Im not blaming you at all in my particular case. These paint pens have a mind of their own sometimes. It just gushed out of nowhere. I mostly fixed it anyway. Im not as mad anymore

I still think it could use some paint but it looks pretty good overall.
>>
>>10958138
Thing is, you're basing your 'close enough' on her robot mode...which may as well not be canon. She never transforms on the show; all you ever see is her beast mode, and that's the mode she's going to be displayed in by anyone who's familiar with the character - that artwork only showed up on a small figure of her after the fact.
>>
>>10958173
It sadly doesn't. A review was posted it shows off the head well enough. Bizarrely, the booster/smokestacks are 4mm and the gun section on the grill tabs on. No idea I'd it can transform with it on (it was only shown being attached after transforming to vehicle) and it doesn't seem like there's space to store it when in robot mode. Its weird.
>>
>>10958244
*5mm

And correction, it does seem like the guns on the grill can be left on going by the render of the figure, sorry for the confusion.

Honestly it looks like a really nice toy to me, it just comes down to whether you like the aesthetic. Looking forward to the eventual “V2” release years down the road that addresses the imperfections (swappable head/face, better articulation at the shoulders/elbows/knees, cleaner back).

Though honestly, 3Ps are gonna knock it out of the park with TF:One—they somehow perfected the engineering language for Bayformers, and these designs are comparably much less mind-bending.

The aesthetic on this thing really reminds me of older 3P stuff, like FP and Maketoys, I dig it. And being a Deluxe makes it a lot more palatable as a quick impulse buy, very nice. I wonder how he scales with other figs, cause here he seems like a pretty big Deluxe? My only real problem is the exposed hands in vehicle mode
I hope the other SS TFONE figures are at least this good. Not too interested in Megs or Bee's designs, but those Starscream and Dreadwing(?) designs looked pretty sweet. And I know I saw Airachnid in the trailer, and I'm willing to forgive any and all MCU humor if the film if it finally gives us a good (official) Airachnid figure

my gripe was the tone. why it it all happy dumb jokes? if it started with that then did more serious stuff after, okay, thats pretty standard I guess. but its all the way through here.
anyone who hasnt lived under a rock since 1984 knows op and megs are the opposing leaders of a devastating civil war, so this movie HAS to end with them becoming bitter rivals. that will only work if it gives itself a little seriousness. not saying it wont be in the movie (it damn well better), but, shit man, at least give us a taste in the trailer. if I didnt know better Id think this is a comedy that will have nothing intense, but I know it has, thats how it goes. do they not know how to make a trailer?

From behind, out of focus, and for literal one second; the only reason that shot even existed was so the animators couldn't complain about the model they made for her going to waste.
The point of her character is that she genuinely believes she's a real bird - she builds herself a nest even though Cybertronians don't lay eggs, she steals shiny things because she's attracted to them like real corvids and lines said nest with junk - regardless of it's actual worth. Her vocabulary consists almost entirely of squawks with simple words (namely, "Mine!", "Shiny!", and "Not shiny!") peppered in, and she's pretty much the definition of 'bird brained'. She stays in bird mode even when attacked and outnumbered, and the Autobots' prisoner file for her only shows her bird mode. NO ONE who knows the character cares what the new toy's robot mode looks like, because they won't be displaying her in it.

My Silverbolt finally got here - he's the Takara version (no real difference from the Hasbro version these days, it seems). Now that I have him in-hand, I can saw a few things about him:
One, all the love clearly went into his robot mode. He's a great representation of his show model, even if the feet could have used a bit of work (I hate the loss of the ability to make him grip things with those talons in either mode) and the wings have those hollow sections.
Two: I am baffled by the current trend of having beast mode feet peg into place on these guys lately - both his front AND back legs are supposed to be tabbed in for beast mode, and it annoys me; also, the little pegs on his robot shoulders/beast mode hind legs are useless - they're supposed to lock his robot arms in place, but they aren't really needed and I accidentally snapped one clean off as soon as he came out of the box (to no ill effect. It's not even noticeable). Someone just really seems to have a fetish for tabs or something.
Three: I can now see that the issue with his backside isn't actually the length of his tail - it's the length of his torso. Leaving his shoulder segments untransformed like in pic related actually gives him normal looking proportions and a normal-length tail. However...
>>
>>10958738
Sure but when all your interviews are shit like "yeah the trailer doesn't really represent the movie well" or "the trailer doesn't show this yet but it's coming" you're not really putting your best foot forward are you?

...it's not really a feasible thing to do, since it gives him an ass like a dumptruck and leaves his robot head completely exposed from behind. There is most definitely a better way they could have gone about making this transformation - maybe have the two chest halves slide inward towards his robot head; instead they chose to have them unfold upwards accordion-style, stretchign out his torso way past where it should be and making his tail look shorter than it actually is. The design decisions and compromises we've seen since Legacy (and the whole WFC line in general) started really have been baffling.

honestly there is zero reason not to get this. both of them are among the best toys in the line, despite dinobot having a few flaws that I think were preventable (robot head takes up so much space in the tail that both tail weapons are too short, dino feet could easily have had more slack in their hinges so they could be positioned more like real dino feet (and his double thumbs could fold in to hide) and dino arms are too flat, flatter than they had to be to fold up)

I mean, I did say they made a horrible choice for the mold they retooled - they should have retooled Airazor's RotB mainline toy instead. But again - repurposing a toy that looks nothing like the character you're trying to represent is just stupid. You can't use Hound as a stand-in for Ratchet, as they have nothing in common at all. You can't use Thrust as a stand-in for Armada Starscream, because again - nothing in common. So why use the Armada TM Airazor, which only has the size going for it, to represent a character she doesn't even remotely resemble?
>>
>>10958865
During the fraction-of-a-second we see her transform, she doesn't appear to get any bigger - so she's a really, really tall fembot. Not that we'll ever see her in robot mode next to other characters - she's perfectly content to just be a bird.
>>
>>10958871
>So why use the Armada TM Airazor,

You wanted to use Airazor as a stand in because you thought the robot mode of the official one looked shitty. After finding out that she never canonically uses the robot mode and it's only the bird mode that really counts, you're now changing your argument to 'the new one is the wrong size!' and 'uh, I have different standards!'.
>>10958877
>different standards
You must have abysmally low standards that you can just replace a character with whatever random one you have lying around and be content with it.
I don't own Deathsaurus, so maybe I should just lower my standards to your level and use my SS86 Grimlock as a stand-in for him? Seems legit enough, right?

I didn't lose - you did. And there's no reason to move to another thread when this one's still on Page 5.

I got this 2 pack this past week and while Dinobot has a few chips here and there which are easily fixable for a couple bucks, they are a great pack. I had Tarantulas already but his joints are all loose and he can fall over if you breathe on him wrong. I know the knees are the wrong color on the premium, but it's nice breaking up the colors. Also the joints are basically the perfect tolerance and the ball joints have been "textured" so that they provide more friction on this version.

They honestly make me want to go out and get every BWVS release. This is how they should have been painted.
