Think so yeah, got them secondhand a long time ago. These guys have interesting provenance, they were in one of those pseudoarchaeological sets where you have to chip them out of a large block, usually it's things like dinosaur skeletons but this was medieval men-at-arms, think it also had a board game included for the figures.
>>
>>10971079
Interesting. The only time I've seen the Robin Hood figures in real life was at this old-time candy store downtown where I live. The owner had decorated the shelves with classic toys and antiques, including a Red Ryder BB gun from 1938 and almost all of the Marx playsets including the Robin Hood set and the Alamo set. Fun little store.

Checked and some of the candy at that store is very good, especially the licorice. There's also an old-fashioned dime store close by (the prices are now up to dollar store levels, but still) that still stocks Wild West toys including cap guns, archery sets, and even figurine bags which fall under the "cowboys and Indians" tag of a good /amg/ thread. They also have Civil War sets and American Revolution sets, too.

I hope they keep that going, even if it has to be one of those Twilight Zone time capsule scenarios. Can't remember the last time I've been to or even seen a dollar store that wasn't Dollarama or Dollar Tree, it's a real duopoly nowadays. Fond memories of a dollar store in Winnipeg over twenty years ago, raised a whole army of German troops there. Also got some of the ninjas in pic, the shinier less detailed ones. The rest came from a set bought off ToySoldiersDepot.
>>
>>10975611
Checked and the reason those stores still exist where I live is due to it being a well-known tourist draw (it's a certain vacation town in Missouri). A lot of toy collectors are drawn to it for that reason, especially after the churches loosened their grip and now allow LGS stores for miniatures and such. Even so, there's still nothing like the old-fashioned vibe of some of the mom-and-pop stores. Those are the places where you find the unique stuff.

Amen to that, also open-air flea markets. Used to live in Europe where they were called brocantes, got some good finds for my collection there. There isn't really an equivalent where I live now, some thrift stores but finding army men there is rare. Have bought the odd lot off ebay in the past but I'm not fond of it, mostly cuz shipping ends up being a bitch. Have had a couple sweet kijiji finds in recent years, pic related easily the best one to date.
>>
>>10978913
Nice haul and I've found high-dollar tin soldiers (that were heavily-priced) at flea markets and antique stores. If I ever manage to find one of those pre-plastic Britain's dragon cannons to use for either a 55 Days at Peking scenario or a Malay pirate set-up, then I'll be really happy.

Two weeks after the devastating preemptive Green offensive, the reeling Tans have finally managed to stabilize new defensive lines. The Greens, careful not to overstretch themselves and worn out from the slaughter are content to fortify their new gains and prepare for the next phase of operations. This time of year favors the Tans camouflage-wise and the Greens would be foolish to advance deeper into indian country without careful planning and the greener months of summer on their side.

As if the recent carnage wasn't enough for the beleaguered Tans, a new front suddenly opens up as a horde of Greys smashes into what had been a very quiet sector of the warzone. The Greys are by far the most enigmatic and inscrutable faction to wage plastic warfare, appearing on the battlefield seemingly at random, rarely bothering to hold ground for long, apparently content to wreak havoc for its own sake.

The ever-vigilant Greens are not long in discovering this emerging threat, as seen in this still taken by high altitude reconnaissance aircraft. Columns of Grey vehicles pouring through the freshly made gap in Tan's Bleeding Hearts sector may seem like an "enemy of my enemy" scenario but only the greenest of Greens are naive enough to have such hopes.

The Greys fight anyone and everyone - unconfirmed reports suggest they even fight amongst themselves along the various shades of grey. This may be one of the reasons they never seem to field the same raw numbers of troops and armor as do the Greens and Tans. This however does not make them any less of a dangerous opponent, especially given the presence of certain units within the advancing columns...

All plastic armies possess weapons of mass destruction; their use is surprisingly rare, considering the ferocity of the fighting and the bitterness of the various color rivalries. Of all the factions by far and away the Greys are quickest to deploy such armaments, compensating for their modest conventional armed forces with unthinkable horrors. The one blessing is the Greys are never able to field more than a handful of such weapons at any given time and these are soon expended.

This image was intercepted shortly after the detonation, transmitted back to Grey Central Command for likely propaganda purposes. Unlike the minuscule objects captured in blurry recon photos, the shocking reality of what has just been deployed is all too clear here...

A recon flight was ordered for ground zero as soon as it was deemed safe to do so. Hours later a brave helicopter crew ventured out for a closer look, bringing back indisputable proof of the Tan base's utter annihilation. Although the defeat of an enemy is always cause for celebration, the horrific manner of their destruction and the likelihood that a similar fate awaits them gives the Greens little comfort. All thought of a summer operation against the Tans fades away, supplanted with grim determination to face the oncoming Grey threat and neutralize it before more mushroom clouds rise into the sky...

For myself, I'm autistic enough to give each of my armies a form of government. And they've kept history documented. I moved around a fair amount. So each new house represented a new age. Though they still utilize the Georgian calendar, and a 24hr day. So when the first toys were unpacked from the move the started the yearly count. And once a calendar was located they would further fine tune the date. Thanks for reading my autistic blog.

Intel reports have confirmed all surviving Tan forces around Ground Zero have withdrawn completely to adjacent sectors, leaving nothing but empty fortifications and a the odd minefield between the Green front lines and the advancing Greys. A sudden heavy downpour in the region has put a temporary halt to all significant manoeuvres but time is not on the Greens' side.

With the spectre of nuclear fire casting a long shadow over the prospects of victory, Green high command scrambles to throw together a plan of action. Unlike the wildly successful spring offensive that seems a distant memory now, the enemy holds all the cards with intel scarce, limited assets with which to fight off the onslaught, and the near-certainty of mass destruction raining down. Faced with such odds, the Greens ready themselves for a desperate battle...

Never had a specific outcome for that clash, oddly; it was a follow-on to a battle told through an image series with the intention of it becoming a regular production (pic related), though that never panned out for various reasons. It's a moment frozen in time at the height of the battle, heavily inspired by the Halo 3 Monument from the Believe ad campaign, right down to making my own version of the ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpzcqKvg-8c

The lull in the fighting due to severe rainfall is being exploited to its fullest, bringing up as many troops and armor as can be scraped together. Green High Command has decided the only course of action is to emulate the Vietnamese when facing overwhelming enemy firepower - grab them by the belt. As soon as weather and ground conditions are favorable, every available tank and soldier are being flung right at the Greys, with orders not to stop until point blank range. Brutal as they are, the Greys are unlikely to call in the nukes if their own forces are also within the blast radius.

This is going to be a desperate action. Intel continues to be minimal, with recon flights sustaining heavy losses to long range SAMs and Grey fighter CAPs for little gain. The Green army will going in practically blind, although some knowledge of what were formerly Tan fortifications will prove useful in guiding the main thrusts of the assault. The Greens are no stranger to long odds - win or lose, from the moment the first shell is in the air towards the Grey lines, the brave Pukes will be covering themselves in glory.

The eve of battle. Every soldier that can be spared is on the line, alongside what armored units could be brought up to the front on such short notice. Platoon leaders, company captains, battalion commanders, all well aware of the stakes, of the dire consequences of failure. The frantic nature of the assault minimizes the usefulness of Green's legendary artillery; the tanks and troops will largely be on their own, with fire support available only for the most extreme danger close situations.

Rumors are whispered up and down the line concerning the absence of certain elite troop formations, usually coalescing into reassuring conclusions of a mighty second wave to exploit the first major breach in the enemy defenses. For every man the orders are clear - send the Greys packing; retreat is not an option. Will the next day witness more than one sunrise...

Limited options for one - sets currently on the market, if they include anything naval at all will be small-scale models of otherwise giant warships, or maybe an inflatable raft or two. Years ago things like gunboats, landing craft and LCACs were somewhat common in certain sets.

On the subject of small-scale naval vessels there's a decent set of them (plus a handful of aircraft) available here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SP536JV

This is the probably the biggest reason there's little naval warfare overlap with army men - even the smallest warships are going to be a challenge to scale well with army men.

Old photo but I can't access these easily so it'll have to do - landing craft, gunboats and inflatable rafts. Pretty sure every single gunboat I have was obtained secondhand; the rafts and most of the landing craft came from new sets, some of them army men, some scuba divers. The event in the photo was WW2-themed, otherwise there would be a few LCACs participating in the landing operation as well. There's a solitary DUKW somewhere off-camera as well, also obtained secondhand.

Example of the LCAC in question (pinched from ToySoldiersDepot), I remember getting at least one set that had no less than three of them, one each in green, grey and yellow/tan. The latter two colors were always the less common ones, hardly ever packaged on their own but in sets of two-three armies. Over time the green/tan duel came to overshadow all the other colors, became a novelty to find anything that wasn't those two.
