Is NYCC worth visiting? I've only ever been to SDCC because it's near, and none of SoCal's other big conventions are ever worth it in comparison. Of course I go to SDCC for toy reveals, but I also love some of their panels for other stuff

NYCC sucks, it's like a shareholder meeting with funko pops, I'm not sure who wouldn't just watch for news instead of willingly go-
>Of course I go to SDCC
Have a good time at NYCC, anon

if you are in town and don't have another better option, I would check it out
>>
I'd avoid New York City in general.

This. And I say this as someone who's entire extended family is from there, so I have first hand experience. I fucking hate it.

I'm there right now, it's fun but I wouldn't specifically make a trip for it if you live in Cali. SDCC does better panels and reveals, NYCC is pretty crap in that regard. I do feel NYCC has better toy vendors, and it feels like pops aren't a dominant this year as they used to be so that's a good thing.

If you know you'll be in town that weekend and can spare the time I'd say hit it up. If you like SDCC you'd like NYCC, but in that same vein...it's really not too different and feels a bit less....special.

It has WAY better wifi support though.

I made the mistake of only going to SD on one Sunday, because past Sundays were great. But post-coof, I feel like there were less pops, but the hall focused a lot more on books and other large industries than indie companies and toy stores. I really go to cons to shop and talk

I went to NYCC for several years straight starting in 09 and found it boring since 1 day is all you really need unless you want to see panels that badly. I went again in '19 and same shit.
I passed by onne guy who was angry as shit saying that NYCC is filled with normalfags *now* which made me fucking laugh.

SDCC this year was missing a lot of video game companies and a ton of comic/manga vendors and artists got their place. SDCC this year felt more like it did back in the 00s with all the new artists/publishers i saw.
Waaaay more Japanese artists this year than before, so i got a ton of great new stuff i normally couldn't in person.

I spent more money this year than all other years thanks to that. Also, i have less to show for it than before too, thanks to artists charging more for sketches.

I think all conventions before COVID were better, despite funko trash taking over everything by 2017. A lot of store/booths are still trying to figure out what to carry, so tradtional stuff (/toy/ favorites) aren't as prominent as they used to be pre-2015.
Never been to NYCC, but i routinely go to other largish conventions. Panels are rarely as good as SDCC, but there's way more indie artists to visit than found at SDCC.

Sounds like its heading in a positive direction

I go to NYCC every year. They have a lot of indie toy booths shoved around the area of the fuck awful funko booth that you avoid like the plague.
Like you, I go because it's close to me. Actually staying in NYC is hellish and there are no hotels within reasonable walking distance to the convention that doesn't require public transit. For me though I just drive over to a ferry from NJ, and the boat drops you off right in front of the convention center, you just have to cross the street.
If you're only going for toys and all that distance I wouldn't bother. Kotobukiya and Volks used to show up with booths in years past but not anymore.

Good points and interesting to hear

I had a great time in NYC like 5 years ago. The only problems I had was getting around and meeting others because delays. I wanted to try NJ but we had no time

Try Boston if you want similar suffering

Native and I agree. It's really stupid that they've not built something at least a few blocks away by now.
