So Nacelle revealed their new 6 inch Star Trek figure line at NYCC and their choices are… interesting to say the least. They did say they were going to make characters we’ve never gotten before, but I think they may have gone too obscure.
There’s also Hiya who has now put up the entire reboot film cast except Uhura in 1/12 cloth goods. They also have the cast in 1/18 as well. Playmates and Super7 lines are dead as far as I know.
Exo-6 is still making really solid 1/6 figures as well, but they can be pricey.
>>
>>11204994
I could understand if they were doing Playmates 5" expansion, but not this line-up. This is like desperate to pretend memes matter level bad
>>
>>11205006
Yeahhhh I’m not sure what their thought process was with this. It’s like they pulled a super7 and we all know how that went with the simpsons line. A few of these would have been fine with like one or two a wave, but with actual main characters in those same waves as well.
>>
That's some big-brained, Super7-like figure selection right there.
>>
Literally who are these guys
>>
>>11204994
That is the worst starting lineup I have ever seen.
>>
>>11204994
Is it a likeness issue? They couldn't get the recognizable characters?
>>
Nacelle seems to like burning money in general, nothing they do really makes much sense compared to other companies
>>
>>11205115
Pretty much. Someone with too much personal money going (mostly) after franchises they can acquire for cheap to sell lots of nicknack merch (stickers, shirts, etc) and figures to retailers like WM. Sooner or later it'll bite them in the ass.

Robo Force is a good unsuccessful franchise, but those figures suck balls. Same for almost anything else they produced toys for so far.

If they do a 1:18 line I'll get them, but damn this is a horrible starting line
>>
Looks like they hit random article on the Star Trek wiki until they had enough for a wave.
>>
With a line-up like this I am surprised there's no Dathon.
>>
Kinda cool, but would have been cooler if it was 1:18.
1/18 is easier to impulse buy, even if it's not cheap, because they take up way less space. Space is a premium for me now.

Oh no. Star [Not Wars] is a buzzkill line. Nobody even cared about any of Playmates ones. And I predict these will kill future plans of important lines like Moo Mesa and Robo Force
>>

>>
Do they come with swappable hands?

Fist+open palm combo is such weird setup for star trek
Like will they come with accessories they can hold?

>another attempt

I really feeling ST is not a good IP for fully articulated figure. 90% of the time the characters just talk. Instead of spending the money to have full movement range, why not just the simple 5 poa + 90° knee/elbows and leave it at that?
>>
>>11205377
> Rule #1: It either has to be a character that has never been made before, or if it's been made before, that wardrobe or that costume has never been made before. Rule #2: Every wave, there can only be one figure from one thing
This is dumb

A Tuvix figure has no right to exist.
>>

ST is an uber-boomer IP though.

Alright Janeway
>>
>>11205372

>>
>>11205762
I have to say I agree, the only hope is they see how this wave fails and they change their dumb “rules”. Since they’ve done Jellico, maybe they could start pumping out the TNG bridge crew and try to hopefully save the line.
>>
>>11205360
shaka, when the line failed

Might be pretty rad. It all depends on how quickly they can turn out waves of new characters. If we have to wait a year or two between waves of literal whos then it'll die but if they can churn out 4 to 6 characters every couple months and quickly fill out main cast bridge crews it might work.
The Kotobukiya statues are probably the best Trek merch coming out right now but it'd be fun to start collecting something else.
>>
Someone really just needs to look at the people making decisions at companies like this and tell them that what someone would buy at $15 retail isn't what they'd be willing to pay $50 for online.
20 years ago these would be in a bin at KB toys not moving.
>>
>>11204994
Nacelle continues to baffle me. Do you all realize these will be about $40 each like the Expanse line? Who the fuck is going to buy these.
>>
>>11205466
Except they didn’t even choose a single original series character to appeal to boomers… Preston and Valkris are from the original movies, but nothing from the show that they actually may have been able to sell these smaller episodic characters from.
>>
>>11205826
I don't think Nacelle cares. The owner is very rich so he is probably just picking IP and making things he likes and doesn't care all that much how well they sell
>>
The scale and selection are just retarded. Too big and too detailed to fit with the original playmates figures, so even collectors with the whole set would be tempted to get some of the billions of characters that have been constantly re-released. Plus if they went with the original scale they could do some of the playsets that were never released, which would be all of them aside from the Enterprise D bridge, transporter room, and engineering.

>>11205758
Think of all the coffee we could have replicated if we didn't have to deal with Tuvix.

>>11205837
They've got Sulu.
>>
>>11205920
That Captain Sulu is from a Voyager episode
>>
>>11205966
Also from The Undiscovered Country. He was captain of the Excelsior in both.

Brian Volks? Isn't he that dude who made toys that made us, the bald sojack looking dude?
>>
>>11205377
I support his insanity because I always complain about how we have too much Optimus/Megatron/G1 and etc for other franchises. This is probably the complete opposite mentality and won't get past 1 wave but I want to see what kind if insane shit they make before they realize they're making negative money.
>>
>>11206232
Also I just realized they're going to be 60 dollars here from reading down the thread so I will just verbally support them from a distance unless they make someone really cool lmao. I have no fucking idea who got Star Trek figures in the past so I don't want to get my hopes up.

>>
>>11204994
Honestly though? The fact these are the same scale as the DST figures is good, fuck Playmates. I also like the fact that half of these are literal whos instead of Kirk or Khan for the 47th time.

The recent Playmates stuff was so fucking trash, I don't know why Paramount keeps going with them

>>
>>11209800
To keep the license maybe?
>>
>>11208694
They're 7" scale, which they incorrectly called 1/12. The panel is up on youtube.

I'm excited. These look great. I'll skip Tuvix and Archer. BUT if you look at the figures, they can mostly (mostly, don't @ me with whataboutism) be reused as other characters with a few minor tweaks (Jellico=Riker, Preston=Scotty, Mirror Archer=Kirk)

They said they hope to get to at least 100 figures. And they said they are aiming for $29.99 so we'll see. But who's Jellico supposed to boss around? Troi in her gym workout leotard or Troi in Blue duty uniform (durr dat's been done before we can't do dat!) Yeah, they need to change their stupid "rules".

Also, Shelby confirmed for wave 2.

Hey, plebbit, Weyoun isn't going to sell a whole wave. I love Weyoun, I'm buying Weyoun, but you argue like a fag because you are a fag.

I'm mostly excited about this new line, except so far it's a bunch of randos that don't go together and they don't go with anything else in my collection.
>>
>>11212503
Says the dude whining about how poor performing this line will be because it's not Kirk, Picard or Data for the hundredth time.

Hit some galaxy gas and slam your head on the floor lol.

This line is posed for those with collections and it offers a platform for B- D tier one offs and I think anyone with a brain is for it. They go together in your collection, sure they're from all different series, but you're being autistic about it. If this line isn't for you then you're not a fan of Star Trek.

Go blogpost on reddit you fairy....LMAO
>>
If he wants a winner then you do what no one is capable of: stay within the same series at least for a wave. People didn't jump on Mcfarlane because he released 3 people with no hope of seeing others from each series. Playmates revival was just shit. No one argues that. But they need to focus. Power Rangers always struggles because the was most release the line - especially Hasbro - was to jump around on teams so it takes a couple of years to put one together. Fuck that.

Do a TNG wave, Do a TOS wave. Give people most of the crew in one shot, follow up with the rest and some from the next series. If it took two waves to get all of the main TNG cast and start TOS or DS9 next, would you do it?

Once you get a few established rosters out you can dabble in side characters, guest stars, and re-issues of the main casts again.. but give the people some god damn hope of having one cast in one scale within a reasonable amount of time.
>>
>>11212592
But the problem is the main characters don't exist at that scale or level of detail, so they don't really work with anyone's existing collection. At least they're not planning on doing anything from the newer series for now, so that gives me some hope.
>>
>>11213207
I think they're the same scale as the DST stuff.
>>
Maybe they should have focused on one show or not done such a big wave.
>>
>>11213215
Perhaps. If so, I hope he'll reconsider his stance and do characters that were missed in that series too instead of just characters that never got a figure in the first place.
>>
>>11212592
>Says the dude whining about how poor performing this line will be because
Where did I say that, you gaslighting faggot? Goddamn, I was right on the money pointing out what a faggot you are and how you argue like one.
>>
>>11213215
>I think they're the same scale as the DST stuff.
DST is almost 20 years old. They're going to look so out of place together just on paint apps alone. Who even still has their DST? Who sold theirs off? Who ran through that marathon bullshit at SDCC between different vendors to get the exclusive TWOK figures that completed the crew after wave 1? Want to build a diorama? The DST figures sit down like whores (DST, their legs WIDE!) If you missed even a single DST, how much are they now on the aftermarket?

This whole line fascinates me. It's super cool to get so many never-done characters. But they just aren't going to fit in with anything thats been done before, it's like putting your child's drawing next to the Mona Lisa, but the frames are the same size! Are Nacelle REALLY chasing only the old DST collectors? Do you desperately need a Jellico to stand around giving orders to nobody? Yeah, they really need to throw in some legacy characters in their iconic outfits. And I love the eras they're focusing on, but even that's going to take a LONG time to dribble out core cast in core looks with 7 main cast for TOS, the movies, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT and also give us our favorites.

>Yeah, they already DID Khan from TWOK almost twenty years ago so we're not going to do Khan because of our own self-imposed rules!
Fucking dumb. They said at NYCC they hope to get to at least 100 figures. That's $3k before taxes. There's going to be a lot of shit the majority of us are going to skip somewhere along the line (unless you NEED someone like Aquiel?)

There was a TON of shit I was open to buying at $5 from Playmates, that I'm hesitant at $30 (mainly shit like Holodeck looks like their Western outfits, Victorian outfits, Robin Hood, etc) That's $210 for 7 figures.

Regardless, if I'm buying in to a new extensive Trek line, yeah, I want the core to match. I can be patient, sprinkle them in a few in a wave, and I can't wait to get a ton of favorites like Gul Dukat
>>

If they were doing main characters as well I could see people getting Jellico or Weyoun but the rest of these are nobodies and without main characters why would you bother
>>
>>11215136
Captain Sulu is arguably the most popular character there.
>>
>>11215136
>nobodies and without main characters why would you bother
They claim they hope to get into WalMart and Target. Neither will take this full lineup. I don't know if Archer is considered good enough for those, but I have a hunch the reason they're doing him in Mirror attire is you could slap a Kirk head on there for a TOS version super easy.

I think thats why these are slated for Fall 2025, they're still working out the kinks. They showed the Deep Cuts to let us know they care and know their shit, they told us their self-imposed "rules" about Legacy characters, but the fans spoke in droves already, so it's easy for them to swap around a few figures and get into the big box stores, make us happy, and still make this series happen.

In a Perfect World, they'd ship Jellico as Riker with an alt Jellico head and collar, Preston as Scotty with an alt Preston head, Mirror Archer as Kirk with alt Archer head. But they won't.
>>

>>11206232
>>11206234
Yeah I'm all for literally who and one-shot characters getting cool stuff once in a while, but it's incomprehensible to release nothing but literally whos in a line that has no good matching figures, at a high price point, no less. When 3P Transformers companies release their literally whos lots of people use them to fill gaps that we know the official stuff would probably never fill. Imagine if a Transformers 3P company released like a giant figure of Huffer or some shit that doesn't scale with anything.
>>
>>11210449
>>11212201
>>11212592
Here's the thing. I appreciate this company spending the time/money for rare characters but I have this weird feeling we've peaked with IP to milk into figures.

There's nothing original anymore so people are digging deep into their asses to see what they can make into plastic.

I look at the barebones toy aisle in Target then walk over to the "adult collector" section next to the game section and see a wall of excrement. A pile of shit that will just sit there until the next Funcopop mouth breather walks over picks up a toy out of nostalgia, looks at the price and puts it back.
