Is it even tooner?
>>
>>11246177
It has a similar general shape I guess, but it's probably more G1-inspired than straight toon. Pretty much what I expected personally, I don't think there's a single design of Prime considered particularly iconic for the character so it makes sense to mix different design elements with the original G1 one being dominant.
>>
>>11246179
Body seemed more like a geewunified version of TFP's

HAHAHA, LOOK AT 'EM. HE'S GOT BOOMERANG EARS!

>>
>>11246167
Not really surprised he has it, I always assumed he'd have a covenant and G1 head, but I will be shocked if the retail version has the cartoon head.
>>
>>11246182
I love the ridiculous heads G1 gave random side characters. It's like they just doodled random shapes and went "yeah whatever that's our guest character for the episode".
>>
Will there ever be a mass-market Titan Class Unicron or Primus?
>>
>>11246201
Maybe. Marvel are over there doing a made to order Sentinel. I could see the idea spreading to Hasbro's other properties.
>>
>>11246183
Yeah, I'll easily take random g1 guy's head over whatever the fuck that is

The primes not being based on aligned is the only thing saving this line for me. Hopefully, they drop the centaur shit for Onyx if means getting a good figure out of him. I do kind of like his TFOne design, Reminds me of Makuta’s winged from Bionicle 2, though I’m pretty sure TFOne took a lot of influence from that movie.
>>
>>11246164
He's got his sword on the side there too. Looks like it's got the same terrible tiny hilt style as Armada Starscream's

>>11246177
I think I'd prefer this colouration to the yellow and blue or yellow and magenta ones.

Do people actually like this Chinese Knockoff Gundam style "everything is spindly" design?
>>
>>11246266
My only issue with him is his size, hes too damn big, most of the modern autobots were made sharing a similar scale to ER Prime, they look tiny with ss86 Optimus.
>>
>>11246268
Some do, thats why TF Prime and Animated sold, but why did you made that in response to a fat no-waist prime?
>>
>>11246262
I know it wouldn't happen since it's a weapon that was packaged with a Commander class but it would've been cool if they gave him the Sword of Primus. It's a nice weapon and it makes sense with Prima.
>>
>>11246266
Optimus getting a commander is fine, I get it. What I don't like is that they pumped all that commander money into him and he still doesn't pose much better than average. It's a humongous visual upgrade over ER but that's about all it's accomplishing, I just wanted more.
>>
>>11246230
What's taking so long for them to make Stepper out of SS86 Jazz?
>>
>>11246266
I don't really care for it in general. I don't think it's awful, but the way the transformation works is a little grating. I'm tired of the front of the trunk being a big panel stashed away into the torso. I get why they do it that way but it's unsatisfying every time.
>>
>>11246242
“Five Faces of Darkness always lies.”
>>
>>11246268
I think the covenant was aiming for a bayverse aesthetic.
Prima's design was clearly inspired by that protoform Optimus toy that was reused for Prima in comics.
>>
>>11246230
Okay. But then what's the reason all the toys since 2018 have been absolute dog shit?
>>
>>11246280
>I'm tired of the front of the trunk being a big panel stashed away into the torso. I get why they do it that way but it's unsatisfying every time.
This. Basically just the fact that the tooner-enabling bullshit that ruined the MP line is now trickling into mainline. You can practically smell Hasbro's desperation for geewunner money before they get too old/dead to spend it.

SS86 is just an overflow line for Generations so they can put out the remaining G1 guys without flooding mainline with them. Hence why in Kingdom we got Cyclonus in "main" generations and Scourge in SS86, despite them both being intended to go alongside each other.
>When last did we get an Optimus with white legs instead of grey, which wasn't just a cartoon redeco of an existing toy?
Never because it wasn't necessary. The Dramatic Capture 3-pack ER redeco was good enough.

SS86 Jazz isn't good for a Stepper. Cartoon Jazz doesn't have door wings, Stepper does. Takara's Stepper is the superior choice still. A SS86 repaint probably wouldn't even have a Targetmaster, and if it did it would be a repaint of one of the shitty new ones.

>>
>>11246370
Like other people said, just get figures you like dude. They're toys, who gives a fuck if they're "objectively" good or whatever? If they make you happy then mission accomplished.

If you asked like "what's the best figure for x character" you'd probably get more substantive answers.
>>
>>11246387
Ask 10 different people and you'll get 10 different answers. You could always go to a Ross or something and see if you can find a figure you like with the price slashed to hell so if you're disappointed it doesn't feel as bad. But here's some figures I've enjoyed from each class:
Core: Tazmania Kid, Optimus if you want to get the obvious
Deluxe: Tarantulas, Animated Bumblebee, G1 Optimus is a fun novelty if you like that
Voyager: Inferno, Tarn (but he can be kinda hard to find)
Leader: Beast Wars TM2 Megs, Technically G1 Galvatron I guess but he'll get an SS86 recolor soon if you care about that instead
The Commanders are all good if you're actually looking to spend that much (Though obviously Motormaster probably isn't as enticing if you're weren't looking to assemble Menasor)

>>11246445
Why would I be upset about a character who was actually nothing but a fucking repaint? At least Hasbro had the excuse of making their version of Baldigus a different deco and name back in the early 2000s when they weren’t catering to fans at all.
>>
>>11246440
Who else is there?
>>
>>11246461
X-Brawn and Prowl but there’s no point if there’s not gonna be a slight attempt at accuracy. The remaining predacons are gonna have to be released in Deluxe scale since core class is gone but there not popular enough as Sky-Byte is. The Train Bots can be sold as commander or individual releases, though how they release and depends on how they want them to scale. I’m not even a RID fan but would like for there to be something besides the Shark and more expensive Haslab shit. Also Sideburn, Baldigus, and Scourge all got “updates” a decade ago along with Sky-byte.

Be cause the old mold from 1995 is still miles better even with the lack of some joints. The Legacy reinvented the wheel for no fucking reason, the transformation was perfect the way it was. The unposable shoulder pylons suck and the reused legs look jarring and disproportionate.
Also, the Black Convoy version gets the colors completely wrong.

After 30 years they could have made something way better with this design, that's why people shit on it.

The shoulder joints are on soft ratchets for some reason and they barely have any teeth so his arm poseability is hampered and that's not even mentioning the shoulderpads that don't move (which is the part about him that bothers me the least). His hips are way too high and his legs are too long so he looks weird in most dynamic poses. Plus like everyone has said he had a perfect transformation before so it should have been a slam dunk. He looks alright just standing still but I really dont enjoy posing him at all.

Also like that he looks a bit like Megatron. It'd be very funny if Megatron is descended from Prima rather than Megatronus

No, the quality went downhill because Hasbro chased after comic buyer money by mandating synergy with the IDW comics after they rebooted as MTMTE and RiD design and character-wise. Combined with the clusterfuck that was Prime and it's toyline and the pivot to it's super kiddified RiD '14 cartoon.

No, this guy is a totally different guy than cliffjumper including mold, there IS a yellow cliffjumper but this guy is some weird fucking anomaly that exists for some reason, his bumper is ironically something that verymuch sets his mold apart from both Cliff and Bee visually besides the head mould. Very Very long and complicated story on trying to explain how the fuck this little guy got into US markets and the further mysteries of how he got a stats sheet and artwork in Argentina that is exclusive to him. They are passable. One hand, they have better selection of Autobots than the RED line (Optimus, Bumblebee, Tracks, dino-mode Grimlock) but RED has a near complete collection of series one Decepticons (missing only Skywarp and the tapes) plus Shockwave and Galvatron while the Super 7 line has Megatron, Starscream/Ghost Starscream, Bombshell, Bludgeon, and some random Action Master Decepticon. Thought Super 7 Soundwave is infinitely better than RED Soundwave.

You can get most of the line dirt cheap, or wait for the upcoming reissue line which is missing 95% of their accessories but come in meme-tier VHS packaging based on the old VHS tape boxes from the 80s and twenty bucks cheaper.

Optimus was $70 by himself without the trailer so I expect Sunstreaker will be a similar price.

I think it would've been more fitting if he was a deluxe since he's the first transformer. He's too bland for the Voyager price, unless the reason is because the deluxe budget couldn't cover his sword, and possibly a shield. His vehicle mode is embarrassing as well.
>>
>>11247529
I mean, there hasn't been a ton of logic with who's been going in what size class. Like I still think it made no sense they made Legacy Elita-1 a Deluxe when in G1 she was nearly the size of Optimus. I still liked the figure alright but damn the size is all wrong, especially when you have random literally who's in Voyager class.

I will never not be mad that they keep reusing Siege Megatron, Siege Sideswipe (who is at least good), Legacy Skids and ER Cliffjumper etc. and haven't done this. Surely somebody has to know it's a money printer. It's a phenominal mold, probably the best in all of Legacy and Cryotek is a great colorscheme.

I think the mold fit Minerva a lot better than Elita-1 personally. But not working in the headmaster gimmick really killed it for me.
>>
>>11247722
Technically that Minerva you was the sentient bot that was created at the end of that series.
>>
>>11247722
I think the mold fit Elita-1 better; Minerva really needs to share a mold with Nightbeat, this one just felt off. With Elita-1, it felt believable to me as "Elita if she were an actual toy", instead of just a nontransformable fembot like in the show, while still closely resembling the original. It feels like if the design was developed a bit more past the initial concept, and the car is cute.

>>11247762
I think it was supposed to be cyberverse arcee, to go with windblade, chromia, slipstream, tarn and nightracer.

My personal headcanon is that the ancestor species of the Quintessons (humanoid, approximately our size) discovered Cybertron and a faction of them conquered the planet after learning to highjack the natural process by which the dreaming Primus creates new Cybertronians from factories occurring across his surface. Adding their own code, choosing the bodies, creating the consumer and military lines that would foreshadow the Autobot/Decepticon schism. Eventually they would grow too corrupt for their own good and had to take on cybernetic bodies to endure forced exile into space, becoming the Quintessons.

I'm just confused why there is so much screeching over it here. When MP44 happen, everyone just said their peace and it was over. Man people were flinging shit over that figure for weeks, maybe months. Way more people here buy figures from mainlines like Earthrise and Studio Series than Masterpieces.

No, they had Primacron's assistant, which became the matrix, which the first cybertronian to have was dubbed a Prime.

>Too blocky on the SS86.
Oh no, the blocky robot is blocky. Meanwhile ER has legs that look too long for its body, that's made worse anytime you move them and its biceps are so small they're swallowed by the forearm when you bend the elbows.
>Looks like shit on SS86.
It's not the correct head. For what is supposed to be the movie Optimus, it needed a head that matched the movie. The MP10 style head it has is still better than ER, with it's wrong shaped faceplate and wrong shaped eyes.
>ER is infinitely superior and not bereft of surface detail like the SS86.
SS86 has surface detail where its appropriate, much like the G1 toy. Surface sculpt just for the sake of it is a negative, always will be.
>SS86 has barely any improvements on ER, in fact I think it actually has less range in some joints.
ER has about 10 degrees more bend in the knees, range is identical everywhere else except for SS86 forward butterfly. Like I said, SS86 should have been better here.
>>hollowness
I grant you this one. I was going to mention the gaping hole in the back of the cab but for the sake of weapon storage I'll let it pass.
>>
>>11249288
>Again, where?
Everywhere. Half the lower legs are grey when it should be entirely blue. The biceps are grey instead of red. The front tyres needed to be painted black. The gun needed to be painted. FFS the hands needed to be painted blue. The color placement is atrocious.
>ER has all the paint it needs.
Again, the lower legs are half grey, there's paint missing on the crotch and they did even bother to paint the whole face. SS86 actually does have all the paint it needs.
>Lmao no. SS86 is overcomplicated garbage.
The transformation is in service of a better bot mode and better truck mode than ER, and it does its job. If it's too complex for you then that's a you problem.
>Not with those tiny wheels and no stripe.
I'll take slightly small wheels over a pair of legs pretending to be a truck bed and lmao no stripe, cry moar
>Useless effect parts and a too-small Matrix, great.
Properly sized trailer and Roller. And the Matrix is a moot point, it's the same one as ER and it too small there as well.
>>but is is inferior.
>Categorically false, unless you're a shit taste tooner. And tooners should not be pandered to. You already ruined the MP line.
I've made my points, refute them if you can. I'll leave you with this. How does it feel to know that Earthrise pandered to tooners when Hasbro changed the eye color?
>>
>>11249358
>Meanwhile ER has legs that look too long for its body
Wrong.
>and its biceps are so small they're swallowed by the forearm when you bend the elbows.
Also wrong.
> with it's wrong shaped faceplate and wrong shaped eyes.
It looks good though, which is more important than being accurate to a shitty cartoon.
>SS86 has surface detail where its appropriate
No it doesn't, it has almost none. ER looks like a real machine, rather than a stupid cartoon boxman.
>Surface sculpt just for the sake of it is a negative, always will be.
"Noooo I can't handle anything more detailed than a cube!" -you.
>>11249359
>Everywhere.
No. ER has actual colour breakup and visual interest, which is vastly more important than accuracy to a cartoon as badly animated as G1.
>The transformation is in service of a better bot mode and better truck mode than ER
And it fails at both.
>I'll take slightly small wheels over a pair of legs pretending to be a truck bed
Which ER doesn't have
>and lmao no stripe, cry moar
t. shit-eating tooner.
>Properly sized trailer
ER had that already, proportionally it's the same on SS86 and ER anyway
>and Roller.
Who cares, Roller is just a brick on 6 wheels.
> How does it feel to know that Earthrise pandered to tooners when Hasbro changed the eye color?
Ambivalent because I'm fine with blue eyes, even if yellow would have been better.
Regardless, tooners are a scourge, cartoon accuracy to an ugly cartoon like G1 is bad and (you) are a faggot.

The archives have details on what the term means with regards to the Transformers toyline, specifically its origins among the Masterpiece line, dating back to 2018. It has been in regular use in these threads for at least six years minimum.
https://archive.palanq.win/toy/search/text/tooner/order/asc/

Indeed, it's even used off this site in the rest of the Transformers community, and among multiple different users posting from different accounts, as can be seen here:
https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/search/8270222/?q=Tooner

I don't think it's fair or reasonable for you to continue down this road of bad faith argument.

It would be the height of abuse of power to call this "troll posting," as well, because I'm directly addressing your claim in a measured manner.
>>
>>11250645
Makes sense to me. Sunstreaker is directly based off of the Cosmo Countach, which is supposed to be one of the earliest roots of the Transformers brand as we know it. Sunstreaker has always been special in that regard, so it totally makes sense for him to be picked in a retro series after the big names are finished. Arcee is kind of a left field pick though, but I'm looking forward to it.

well you'd expect them to do all the biggest names and most desirable classics first
they did optimus and bumblebee, obviously can't sell megatron in america, so then... you'd expect soundwave, starscream, then at least 10 other familiar g1 guys before this one.

As someone else mentioned, Sunstreaker was the first diaclone carbot designed so it actually has a special place in the history. It's also one of the molds that have been lost to time somehow, so a reissue is impossible. Adding Spike in is a nice bonus but I really hope they don't use that as an excuse to charge like $120 for it or some shit.

Alright, /tfg/, I need some help deciding here. I've been wanting to get a ROTF Soundwave for ages now, and am now in a position where I can nab one - the catch is that I'm not sure which color to get. There's the generic colored version (which would be the cheapest, but most boring), the 'Soundblaster' - colored version (which will be rather expensive even with the offer I received due to how few of them were produced, though I do have the money to afford him), or the more G1-accurate 'Infiltration' version (which comes bundled with a Bumblebee toy I have zero interest in and, while cheaper than the Soundblaster version, will cost more than the standard version since I'm forced to buy two figures here).
I can only get one, and I have until tomorrow to decide, so which should I go for?

-Gobot 3 pack(only wanted blue Cosmos)
-Target 4 pack (only Squeezeplay)
-Leader Thubdertron pack (Didn't care for the blue car

It's just a hassle to sell this stuff because the ones you don't want tend to be the ones no one wants.

The SG Predacons were based on the Classics predator minicon team, they were tiny and there were only three, no Tantrum or Headstrong.
Predaking, a separate character like in Prime, not a combiner, was later added in the comics, based on that one dragon minicon.
Out of all the Botcon SG toys, they were definitely some of the oddest choices.

The Target 4-pack wasn't so bad because that one felt like 2 unique-ish molds/retools (Cliffjumper and Squeezeplay), 1 redeco that at least a decent number of people want (Cyber Tarn) and just 1 pure gimmick figure (Tarantulas with bot head in weird ass colors). I actually ended up profiting off that box set when I sold the ones I didn't want. Not that doing that was actually worth the time investment, but I'll take that over a lot of box sets that just feels like they put in 3 who gives a fuck fillers/recolors and 1 that a select group of people will be fighting over.

The guns should be formed from the shield-like aerodynamic shell on top of the cab and the exhaust pipes on the back of the cab. Should look like some fuckbig laser gun and a machine gun respectively. I have that figure on my desk still, got it from my brother-in-law. He had the Megatron from the same line but I think he sold or got rid of it before I thought to ask after it. He turned into a weirdly-colored revolver kind of thing. Not the best figure but a neat enough gun.
