OK that's messed up. And since their stuff is cheap it's mostly profit.
>>
>>11556014
Based labubus
>>
Did anyone need any more proof that the average person is stupid? Those god damn Labubus sky rocketed this company to these market caps just because they went viral on social media.
>>
>>11556014
Have they not figured out they need to pay a kpop idol to carry around a barbie or something to regain some ground?
>>
>>11556050
it is less that the average person is stupid and more that is how the stock market works; investment is 90% speculative, if hasbro was making some super popular new product everyone was talking about their market cap would skyrocket overnight too
>>
>>11556014
These things are the definition of FOTM. They are a fad that will die before Christmas.
>>
>>11556099
Labubus have been around for a decade, bro.
>>
>Ne Zha 2 gets 2 billion at box office
>Pop Mart is worth billions

Chinese market is huge and Pop Mart has gone global
>>
>>11556592
Beanie Babies were created in 1986 and peaked in the mid 90s.
Then guess what happened.
>>
>>11556050
Isn't it the same for all popular franchise collectors? Like Starwars, DC and Marvel? They buy merch because some movies went viral.
>>
>>11556600
Right, because the Chinese never ever lie about anything lmao.
>>
>>11556014
Holy shit. I'd seen some of Pop Mart's other stuff before, but only learned about the Labubu things recently. Funkos were everywhere for years, yet barely cracked a billion at their peak from what I remember.
>>
>>11556604
Yeah I get that, but "blind box collectibles" have been around for over two decades now, and are still going strong. There will eventually be a deflation that burns the scalpers, but I think people will continue collecting them just because they're cute.
>>
>>11556621
Yeah, it could end up like Pokémania rather than Beanie Babies, the initial hype wave will slow down but the franchise is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
>>
>>11556621
And how many of those blind box collectibles are still relevant today? Apart from proven brands like the Lego Minifig's.
Shit, Lol Dolls were the hottest thing only a couple of years ago, and I barely hear anybody talk about them these days. They still make them, but they have about the same cultural relevancy as Transformers did in 1988.

It doesn’t matter if they’re lying at this point because of the perception of the masses

prove it

Oh, I love that track, it's so damn good

It's surely contract some and might just burst
but I fear in general we've hit such a big consumerist population that a lot of things that look like bubbles can sustain for much, much longer than they once would've done
take into consideration pokemon cards
yes, they did contract from the covid era bubble, but the most recent one that popped off with Prismatic Evolution has been going strong for about a year if insane levels of scalping far beyond what we saw in 2020.
MTG has started raising msrp prices on product as they had the insanely profitable and scalpable FF set (made 200 million in a day btw) and prices are still elevated. People have been predicting magic to wean down in players as the awful game design came in from Universes Beyond spam for a few years now, but it's sustained.
These are card game example and not perfectly applicable for Labubu, but I think it has come relevance.
tl;dr: there's so many people out there buying shit now that things that look like bubbles and may be bubbles can last for a long long time cause of the sheep out there
>>
>>11556014
Ah yes, Business Insider, the click-bait wall street journal of aware women everywhere
>>
>>11556592
Oh really? That’s probably news to most people of the people that buy them that JUST FUCKING FOUND OUT ABOUT THEM THIS YEAR AND WILL FORGET THEM BY NEXT YEAR
>>
Chinese/Koreans won the global culture war.

So I didn't really know what the hell Popmart crap was until this thread, but a cursory glance at it's products and it's clear this thread makes no sense. These things shouldn't be compared to companies like Hasbro and Mattel, who make actual, playable characters, figures, toys and products. PopMart crap should be compared to Hallmark or other tchotchke garbage old ladies buy to shove in dust old cupboards so they don't feel alone when their cats leave the room.

The fact that they're blindbox makes it even worse, these aren't toys, they're plastic crack for addicts.

Look at all these grump incels complaining about toys not made for them getting popular because it's outside their realm of interest. No one cares about your marvel dolls or naked he-man dolls that recycled 80s crap is already stale, Asia won the culture war. Gambling loot box mechanics will never go away because it will always have an audience and ego drive that makes people feel superior when they find the lucky item.

And the Allies won WWII, doesn't mean it was a good thing
>>
>>11558890
Allies winning ww2 helped set up the state the Israel, proud of yourself there champ? :)
>>11558885
keep seething, only Brazilians care about heman

i dont think you understood the first guys post
>>
>>11558899
Holy fucking ESL. He literally said "doesn't mean it was a good thing," meaning the allies winning WW2 had ramifications that made the world worse.
Winnie the Pooh isn't sending his best, is he?
>>
>>11556014
Market cap is not an indicator of success.
Pop marts sales are comparable with hasbro and mattel, and dwarfed by lego
>>
>>11556617
It hit 1.18 bill in 2018
Funkos had almost no international sales outside of Europe, that's the difference
>>
>>11558899
Chinese fingers made this post.
>>
I like pop mart and chinese toy companies but labubu are dogshit
