At least that was my impression, I've only shot a few boxes of hollow points myself, they're expensive and I don't like wasting them in pumpkins and watermelons. I did do a comparison once by shooting a standard 9mm through a cantaloupe and then compare it to shooting one of my self defense rounds through another cantaloupe. The self defense round made a bigger, far more devastating hole. The standard round just went through and through.
