NPU on those ears
NPU on the sword handle
NPU all over the horse.
custom-made, unique, not useful for anything else FACE.

why even bother? if you remove Link's unique face, it all falls apart. it's not even like it's NPU on another part, but with a print (like say... Epona's eyes) it's a whole unique face part. at what point do you just go buy a Link Figure from some other company. why make it Lego at this point?

>learn that not every lego space has to be a shillhub.
you might be in need of a lesson:
if this is indeed a corporate Lego attempt at generating interest, they (Lego) will be monitoring this space to gauge that interest.

this gives us a unique opportunity to reverse-manipulate Lego on their own level. but we also need to learn how to do that on an inception-level of communication.

it's the classic concept of knowing you are being watched, so you do stuff to the watchers, for your own benefit instead. flip it. YOU have the power now. enjoy your knowledge of knowing you know and they don't know it.

now that I have defended you, Lego employees, can you please sneak this Wednesday hair piece, but in a light purple, into a set somehow? preferably like a $20 set? for a MOC character. if you want to do the Build-a-Minifig bin, I have a The Lego Store near me, that would work, too. thanks.

>>
>>11895249
I think it looks fine aesthetically, the thing is it's just statueshit. It's well executed imo, it would be a good MOC but that doesn't mean it's a good set. Like am I supposed to build a 6x minifig scale Hyrule Castle or Kakariko Village to go with him? What does it go with? Maybe I could MOC a Stalfos or something to scale, that's about it. The parts also don't look highly reusable. It's just going to sit on a shelf for years.
This is why the system is important.

>>11895311
Are you talking about the light-up lightsaber figs? They might have used a different mold for those. Maybe someone who has one can confirm.

I think most people are pretty surprised by how good this looks.
It’s probably a well-worn point even just a day after the announcement, but I imagine OoT Link adapts to LEGO so well because we’re familiar with him as a hideous, low-poly N64 model. So what would otherwise be uncanny (as in the disgusting soccer models or the earlier Star Wars buildable figures) comes off as quite authentic instead.

mwa-ha-ha (says the Lego exec)
Lego loves that kind of "criticism"
along with
it's amazing but too expensive

Lego wants you to put something amazing together and have it sit on a shelf forever. the more expensive, the better. go buy another set. whoops, that one will sit on a shelf? good. buy another...

it's quite a paradox that Lego should be diminishing returns for everybody. eventually, you should own enough bricks to build whatever you want, and when you have enough, you can even build le-epic-scale Lord of the Rings Castle or something. how does Lego skip the middle step and go right to you purchasing what should be your own creation?
>>
>>11895249
I'll be very honest with you.
It does not look terrible, but sets like these make me wonder why a zelda fan wouldn't just buy an actual statue/figure of link. I get the novelty of building it yourself, but with all of these modern tiny slope/curve pieces it really does lean a lot more into being a statue than actually lego if you know what I mean.

But if you are totally into zelda/lego/statues don't let me stop you from enjoying this.

Was talking about grand moff tarkin from the original star destroyer. The set was used, but supposedly 100% complete with all minifigs, the instructions, AND the box, and he was selling it well bellow the cheapest brinklink option (I bought it from a local 2nd-hand website instead). So I immediately checked if it was legit because it just seemed too good to be true, when I checked the minifigs I immediately noticed they all had head holes except for tarkin, but after looking around the web he supposedly never had a hole in his head, at least this version of him.

Zelda should have gotten a treatment like Mario did at first. imagine little modular Zelda dungeon rooms. you can put the Boss Key somewhere, a wall to be bomb'd, the spinning fire things. all whatever pattern you want. I'm not saying with a electric noise maker Link, just... the same type of customizable thing, but using Zelda things

why does Lego insist on NEVER doing the exact thing people expect? (okay they do it a few rare times, Animal Crossing, I guess)

It looks just like N64 link, which, as far as buildable figures are concerned, is the best outcome. If you’re just principally opposed to these sorts of buildable character sets, that’s a different question, but for my money, this is the best looking brick-built human(oid) Lego’s done. Maybe excepting characters with more cartoony looks and proportions.
The tree sucked and was bloated by nu-Zelda pieces. But the Ganon battle was pretty cool.

Given that 95% of the future population will live in a poor, wartorn, ignorant, medieval worldwide Islamic favela, and the other 5% will live in walled-off, automated, AI powered utopian technostates, what will the future of Lego be in this world? Are Lego toys haram and to be destroyed? Would the technocrats even be interested in Lego when they can 3D print things with their mind? It a very strange future I can't really see Lego continuing in such a world.

Closer study by an even bigger autistic might reveal further potential but that's what we're looking at.

Least favourite of the knight cmfs, his visor had a loose grip, don't like the new short sword design and the grey-on-grey heraldry is just baffling - knights wanted their peers to recognize them on the battlefield and emphasized bright colours. Lego released the 501st BP for like 30 dollars(before it was between 10-15$) and of course the retards all just HAD to buy it enmasse, then they upped the average price to minimum 20$ while making even worse molds and prints and because hyperactive manchildren(they are the cause of so many of the modern problems) still bought them, they were able to up it to 50$, granted from what I saw the community started boycotting them by not buying the BP but I doubt the price for future BPs will go down(the new Endor BP will be 30$ while having the same amount of builds and figures as the early 2010 one)

I'm already sad for fans of the show and I don't even know if I should be. that's what I think of Lego heh

>Nintendo holds approximately a 32% stake in The Pokémon Company, making it one of the three equal co-owners of the franchise. Beyond its ownership share, Nintendo plays a pivotal role in the Pokémon ecosystem. It is responsible for publishing and distributing the mainline Pokémon games worldwide, providing the hardware platforms (like the Nintendo Switch) on which these games run, and supporting localization and marketing efforts.
Seems like they kind of do.

They don't make Pokemon. We have to go through this song and dance with retards on /v/ all the time. Nintendo owns a portion of Pokemon Co., about 30%. GameFreak (maker of Pokemon) and Creatures Inc (the designer of Pokemons) own the majority split. Nintendo owns trademarks as publisher but Gamefreak owns the base copyrights. All three work with the Pokemon Co to make Pokemon a thing. If Nintendo made Pokemon there wouldn't be people constantly complaining about how bad/souless and sluggish the new games run.

Dotcom bubble was different be used it was companies and sites, an not the internet that was the bubble. Flash memory and hardware shortages will be gone by January 2029, that means flash memory will be plentiful which means GPU prices will go down, storage prices will go down, over abundance of memory (from additional facitlies built) means stock prices will plummet for manufacturers. AI services will STILL not have made any profit and will not cover the costs of tens of billions of debt tech companies have acquired in the last 2 years. With hardware plentiful more people are going to be pushed into using local AI (yes, LLMs will not be going away but you will see all companies move away form using the term Artificial Intelligence, and it will be Machine Learning and Stable Diffussion being used as terms). Also when Trump is gone all his tariffs will be removed because they only benefitted corporations and billionaire and not taxpayers (corporations and billionaires don't pay Taxes thanks to Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill"). The worst bit is that stock prices will crash hard for tech sectors, but gold will continue to be in demand because of flash memory.

I only realy collect vintage sets so it's always kind of an experience when I get to build anything new. Built this set yesterday with a younger relative and it really left me thinking about modern design philosophy of sets now. I built the pokemon and it was basically building a 2x4 wide base with several 1x1 modified bricks to put studs on the different sides to then cover with plate construction. I actually got confused a few times and had to unbuild and rebuild the base because I didn't have studs lining up as they're suppose to. It just got me thinking "how is making this constructed of numerous modified 1x1 pieces that they have to all color differently for easier instructions cheaper then something like several modified 1x4 and 1x2 with studs on the sides?". What is the logic I'm missing here exactly?

it's cheaper for lego to produce billions of 1x1 pieces than do anything else
licensing fees also give then an in for jacking up prices
people like to say that old sets were more expensive for less pieces, adjusted for inflation, but what they don't mention is that more often than not, you not only got more volume out of less pieces and it was often a better toy
you can also build way more with a couple hundred lego bricks than a thousand 1x1 plates

Duckbricks and M&R are almost single-handedly responsible for what battlepacks have become. Both of them literally bought hundreds of those 501st battle packs, and pictures exist of both of "competing" against each other, buying more and more of them. They also rallied tons of other people to buy as many of them as they could, so Lego saw that as massive demand for higher-priced "super battle packs" like the $45 327th pack, and the $30 clones/droids super battle pack.

Of course, all this latter stuff happened after they changed the helmets which M&R saw as a personal attack, and everyone was rallied to not buy any of them, but make no mistake, if they had the helmets with no holes they'd have bought hundreds again like they did with the 501st packs.

Newfag here. Started looking at what Lego has been offering today, and I'm not sure I get it. All I see when I go to my local toy stores is sets of Harry Potter™, Star Wars™, Minecraft™, Marvel™, Fortnite™, Nintendo™ and others. The only original LEGO thematic sets you can get either City or Ninjago. Does Lego still run some thematic sets of their own design?

Oh 100%, I've been getting back into Lego Star Wars in the last 6 months and have been basically just watching videos and reading online about all the stuff that has happened since I last bought a Lego set in 2014, I still can't believe those 2 morons saw a price increase of 200% for what is basically just a 10$ BP with a bigger vehicle and more pieces and instead of holding back and saying "wait, they increased the price so much because they know we want to and will buy these sets", they instead bought a gazillion of them and destroyed the BPs forever, I was also taken aback at how much the prices for Lego sets in general increased, sets that when I was a kid would have cost like 30€ were now 50-60€, I mean inflation is a bitch but holy shit the prices are insane and we're getting products which in many cases are worse than those than came 10-20 years ago even

Just finished the Mayor Manor, what do I think of it?
>>
>>11897653
The only things I wish were that both floors were maybe 2 studs deeper, and that it included even one more minifigure. Other than that, I like it.
>>
>>11897653
Maybe think about pulling your phone out and uploading a pic to *checks* an IMAGEBOARD.
>>
>>11897658
The building techniques remind me a lot of the interior portions of the Lion Knight's Castle, so building it did give me some fond memories of one of my favorite sets. I think they fumbled the suit of armor by just making it a statue with a blank head; the fourth minifigure should have just been a glowing ghostly head added to the suit of armor, with the visor helmet used instead of the fixed tournament style helmet to better hide it. The suit of armor also definitely should have had a printed shield with the same coat of arms as the printed piece on the front of the manor. I am very interested in this line though since I think it has great potential depending on what route they go with it. They could do a more modern and adulty reinterpretation of Monster Fighters with some detective characters investigating the Midnight Valley. It definitely feels like they are setting something up with the key under the floorboards but I'm not sure why they chose to make this a one-off Icons set instead of launching a new theme with a full wave of sets. I guess they aren't certain whether it will sell well or not so they wanted to test the waters first? It feels weird to have two different haunted manors for sale at the same time.
>>
This is the interior* (*backside) of Downton Abbey. What do we think of it?
>>
>>11897662
It is the start of a new "theme" in a sense. The Midnight Valley sets are supposed to be the start of a yearly Halloween theme, much like how they do a yearly Christmas village set. Actually, they probably should do a small amount of sets also in the Midnight Valley, like how they do multiple small Christmas sets every year. Imagine next year we get the big entry, and then we get two or three smaller sets like, say, a $20 hearse and a small $30 graveyard diorama type set or something.

I agree that it would be cool to make this a somewhat more modern Monster Fighters line. I'm definitely interested in seeing where they take this, just sucks we have to wait another year for the next one. I'm actually tempted to buy 2-3 of this set, and make like a big haunted mansion modular-esque building out of them.
>>
>>11897664
Is this the sort of franchise where I can get the set at a heavy discount from the bargain bin, scalp the minifigs, and get the tan bricks for basically free?
>>
>>11897664
I know nothing about this franchise at all but just looking at this, it's really weird how there just isn't a roof. The build looks unfinished. Every single surface is tiled off, but then there are random exposed studs on top of slope bricks where the ceiling should be? Again, I have no idea if this is accurate or not, but it looks like there should be some kind of fancy chandelier hanging down over one of the rooms in the upper floor that is just missing entirely.

>AFOL 18+ lego sets choices are weird man
I think there might be some designer at Lego whose autistic special interest is designing hyperrealistic living spaces like kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, etc. Excessively detailed interior living spaces are a frequent feature of these 18+ sets to the point where I feel like it's one guy or a small group going out of their way to find any excuse to make more of them. I'm not necessarily opposed to Lego representing things like this, I just find it really weird how much effort is being exhausted into this particular feature of so many sets. The discussion of Mayor Manor and LKC led me down this line of thinking since they both have excessively detailed living spaces. I also think of the medieval market square and all the detail packed into its cheese kitchen.
>>
>>11897703
That seems like a silly thing to argue. I think the whole point of larger structures in the Icons (and other lines) is that is filling out the detail in those larger structures.

I'm kind of reminded of how the modular buildings have evolved over the years. The first few had little to no interior detailing, and really focused on the exterior detailing. Over time, they tended to balance the two. Some of the best stuff is in the interior detailing, and even building things like chairs, couches, dressers, bookshelves can vary greatly from set to set, and it can be neat to see just how different the interior elements can be from set to set.
>>
>>11897664
Looks like dogshit, desu.
>>
>>11897710
I mean I get the appeal of interior decorating to an extent... but do we really need to be spending 10+ pieces to build a chair, 30+ pieces for a bookshelf, 40 pieces on a dining table, and so on? The main appeal of Lego to me is the elements that make it uniquely Lego, not spending dozens of pieces to make an extremely detailed couch for a completely disproportionate minifigure to sit on. Since someone else mentioned clone trooper helmets earlier that reminds me: The reason I love the old T-visor clone and stormtrooper helmets is that they actually feel like Lego first and Star Wars second. Modern clone helmets look like they were stolen from a Hasbro TVC action figure, with realism prioritized and only coincidentally working with the Lego system. Maybe they are just leaning into this because an excessive amount of detail is naturally conducive to the modern practice of artificially inflating the piece count with tons of 1x1s to make the set appear to be a better value.
>>
>>11897732
I understand what you mean, actually. I think it plays into the complaints toward Lego's modern ideology of smaller and smaller pieces, and pieces that are very specifically shaped to create very specific curves and angles and stuff that generally only tend to lend themselves to a couple uses.

I feel like I might be one of the only people here who kind of separates and appreciates Lego into the old vintage era, where sets required more imagination and builds more vaguely looked like what they were meant to be, whereas more modern builds are meant to look, not necessarily exactly like what they are aiming for, but very close.

I feel like I can appreciate both vintage and modern Lego eras as completely different things. Nothing will ever beat the era of late 80's to early 90's aesthetic and themes. Like, I love me the old Space themes and pirate stuff from that era, but I can also really appreciate like, the current Black Pearl for just how detailed it is.

Kind of funny, because as a kid like 30 years ago, I would have died seeing some of the Back to the Future, or Ghostbusters, or Jurassic Park, or whatever sets we get now and would have wanted nothing more than to have those back then, but the adult me of now wishes we got more classic Space and Pirates and Castle stuff.

There's certainly way too much black box crap that we get these days, but I still do enjoy some of the modern, detailed builds.

Old one wins easily, more bricks for less money
>Alt builds
Old one wins easily again. The skull island and inn are breddy gud, I see what they were going for in the two boats and lighthouse but I think they turned out poorly due to part constraints.
>Creature
New one wins, the shark is kind of lame
>Minifigs
Torn on this one, the new one definitely suffers from the DEI but having 4 instead of 3 is pretty nice. The new one also has entirely new designs, every single torso is a unique print while the old ones are generic except for the captain's which was new for that set. The new one also has some new legs and faces. I might have to give it to the new one solely for the fact that the heads can be easily swapped to make male pirates.
>Ship design
I have to give it to the new one if I constrain the fact that it's smaller to the "value for money" section, otherwise old wins. The old color scheme doesn't work great with the random red and gold on the cabin, though the new one still unfortunately has pearl gold. The new one has a sleeker hull shape that angles inwards towards the top, the old one just sort of comes out to a flat platform which the forecastle and aftcastle sit on top of. The new one also gets points for the closed deck and it seems to have more vertical space underneath judging from the pictures (I don't have it yet) which was a problem with the old one. Its narrowness no doubt means you can't put cannons on both sides, but to be fair the old one can't fit both sides either without all the gunports open. The new bow is better too, but the old forecastle is better. The brickbuilt sails look bad on both.
In conclusion, I will be getting the new one when it's at a solid discount I guess.

Try Aliexpress, I got the Imperial Flagship there a while back for like $70 and it's solid quality. Not sure if they still have it but they had a bunch of older ones like the original Black Pearl.
>>
I did this build with the old 3-1 pirate ship and I am very happy with skull pirate island.

I can never take these "lego competitors" seriously because most of them literally shamelessly copy lego's entire brick selection 1:1 save for the minifigs.

They aren't "trying to do their own thing" like a lot of people claim, they are literally just copying lego bricks except the ones that get them copyright-striked.
>>
>>11898759
At this point in time, most alt-brand bricks have a greater variety/library of pieces, and in more colors that Lego isn't willing to do.

I like your green arms version anon. The game version is more iconic imo.
My mom likes to watch videos about Lego collecting to understand my obsession. She once asked me about Cloud City Boba and I told her I was meh towards it because I already loved my childhood Boba. She was more excited about my $30 haul than I was lol
