I also watched Batman and X-Men too, though I wasn't as big on X-Men at the time, I thought it had too many characters and had trouble keeping track of who was who when I was six, but I still watched it. Got into actual comics as I got a bit older in middle and high school, before becoming a real hardcore reader in college when I discovered .cbr scans and started reading just about everything, from the classics, to modern comics, to indies. I was reading heavily for years until just too much bad writing caught up and I stopped caring about currently releasing comics. I still read ASM on /co/ because I hate myself, but that's it really.
