I'm the Skyeanon who keeps posting her stupid fanfic / headcanon shit that literally nobody but me will care about, but for what it's worth, I like to think Nick had sex for fun when he was younger (teen in high school / early 20s) with various girls who were dtf but who didn't want something more (perhaps they didn't trust him / just saw a pretty face but didn't want something serious) but in my own little fanfic thing I've got going, Skye (in high school) became the first vixen who was emotionally interested in him, was a close friend, and who he genuinely made love to. So with me trying to keep in-line with the canon, the fanfic is going off of the idea which Skye was his gf in high school but when she moved away and literally did not try to contact him at all, it broke his heart horribly and he became very emotionally closed off, much more cynical and much more pessimistic until he met Judy.
