I'd say what improved and what got worse, but everything has just gotten worse since then. Staff who never learned their lessons and still treat users badly, stripped contacts page making you feel helpless, more and more "temporary" range bans for "abuse" (no abuse happened, and its been a month plus, still waiting on some IPs) where you have no choice but to register an e-mail to post. The e-mail system is buggy half the time and doesn't work, and has too many captchas to fill out. The site is often "down for maintenance" quite often now which I don't believe is the truth half the time (they are likely removing posts in bulk in some boards, censorship). Overall lower board population - I've seen threads where I know their usual duration of time now double in longevity (a thread that lasts a month now last's two, two and a half). The slow down and decline of this site is real. They do nothing to stop the bleeding, in fact they excel it. The site is just a burden at this point to those that run it, they likely want to kill it but must do so slowly and discreetly so no one catches on. If they don't do it, all the online age verification crap spring up around the world will.

An image board is only as good as its userbase. As the sensible users leave you're then just stuck with more of the bottom rung schizos that make every place hell. The type that will cling to 4chan until it's very last breath. If another hack happens, I wouldn't be surprised, nor would a shed a tear. This place is long past its prime and should be put out to pasture.

(Extra slow loading captcha, great job guys...)
>>
Jesus fucking Christ.
I got a time out error so I thought it didn't post, turns out it did because when I tried again I got a "you need to wait longer to make new threads" post.
Something I forgot to mention about how shitty everything is now - annoying rotating ever changing captchas, some harder to slove than others.
And the stuff I tacked on before I knew it actually went through:
>(Edit: "Our server encountered a problem while processing your request. Gateway time-out. The web server reported a gateway time-out error.". Still has the 2003-2015 4chan copyright years too, ffs. They haven't updated the rest of the copyright years since 2025 either. Shit's been down since 3am EST and still not acting right.

NTA but it seems like an article from some government site on how to deal with places like 4chan.

And the highlighted text is relevant because it seems the mods are trying to drive away users by making it very difficult to post.

Exactly what you'd dismiss as a schizoid conspiracy theory.
Professional academics trying to ruin 4chan specifically because they dont like what's posted.
>>
>>82288820
>captcha now takes forever to load and expires quickly

If they are intentionally trying to drive me away, it's working.

I would suspect that is the case.

Question is, why?
I guess if they just wanted to close the site it would cause too much of a blowback, and considering many staffs were doxxed when the hacked happened, some crazy people might go after them for closing their favorite site (read: the only site that will tolerate their bullshit). I suppose they (mods, government, both?) are trying to drive people away to give more of a reason to shut it down and have a "valid" reason for doing so (no one visits anymore, so we are pulling the plug).

Of fucking course. Stupid overreaching britbongs, thinking they can control the entire internet and make it bend to their whims.
>article from 2021
Interesting. 2022 is when 4chan started slowly losing users year after year. According to the wiki article for 4chan /pol/, /pol/ has been the most active board since 2022 (though I'm sure that's incorrect, iirc it was already like that years before).
>>
>>82289031
>"temporary" range ban
That has been a thing since spur.us got implemented in January. And the incongnito thing has been going on for even longer.
>>
>>82289161
I could still post just fine in incognito a few hours ago. Now I'm getting that error in incognito even when I'm only tried to post a text post without an image attached.
>>
>>82289247
Then your range was whitelisted (and now it's not).
>>
>>82289161

What is that?

>>82289247
I've had temp range ban issues on both private and non private windows in my desktop at both home and another place.
>>
>>82289327
How come I could still post if I'm not using incognito mode then? I'm using same browser and device.

>>
>>82289442
Sites can tell when you are using incognito and, for some reason, 4chan doesn't want you to.
>>
>>82289602
They should have changed the error message then. Kinda weird since it worked fine for me using incognito a few hours ago. I wonder if it's related with this slow captcha and posting issues.
>>
>>82289391
>What is that?
One of the many spyware checks required to post in 4chan (except for those with cookies that are older than when it was implemented).

>>82289674
>related with this slow captcha and posting issues
Probably not. As it was mentioned before, it's been like this for a long time now for most other people. It was simply your turn now and it coincided with the new issues.
>>
>>82289791
>Probably not
I can't find an explanation why I can post just fine without incognito if my range is actually "temporary" banned.
>>
>>82289982
>I can post just fine without incognito if my range is actually "temporary" banned
I just fucking told you, that's how it has been for everyone else since last year. This is all I know, what else do you expect me to say?
>find an explanation
I'm just a regular user, nothing I say really matters nor anything you tell me.

Go to https://qchat.rizon.net, follow the instructions to register a nickname (and don't be retarded; use a tuta.com e-mail, not your personal gmail) then /join #4chan and bitch to the mods there.
>>
>>82289053
There was a big huge Harvard study too around that time but I don't have that I for saved. They traced back the origins of memes and discovered (on an academic level if you give a fuck about that) that the most virulent memes come from /pol/ specifically. That identified the problem for them.
THEN this article discussing what to do about it.
YES
There really is an international effort headed by major universities, super pacs, NGOs, and state agencies to shitpost in 4chan to make people leave it. It's not a "conspiracy" because it isn't a secret.
>>
Is the slow ass captcha on purpose or is something broken?
>>
It's too much of a coincidence that 4chan is having issues on the one year anniversary of the hack.
Either they are being attacked and the site has slowed down or they are doing something to prevent one but its causing issues.
Fuck man it takes forever for a captcha to load and then post the post when you hit post.
Check out https://4stats.io/ the activity percentages are all way down.
>>
>>82290340
I think it started since the 4chan "maintenance" ended although I'm not sure if it's actually 4chan shitting itself or because currently Cloudflare is supposedly having issues in some areas.
>>
>>82290571
>issues in some areas
I’m going to think that’s it. There’s no way they did this as a permanent feature would they?
>>
>>82288674
>"one way to achieve this would be to regularly post content that looks genuine (using the right language, imagery, etc.) yet is meaningless - this would dilute the message of these boards and make their threads uninteresting, thereby reducing their attractiveness and sense of community."
I don't get why they'd kill their honeypot, if anything don't you want to do the opposite so people are attracted to it, or is using "social media" as means of a honeypot more efficient?
>>
>>82289791
>One of the many spyware checks required to post in 4chan
Is this shit run with some drunk AI?
I've had more issues with "temp" range bans in the last two months than I ever have had in the decades I've been posting here. Out of all the places where I was blocked, one connection point came back to "life" and allowed me to post without e-mail verification after about two weeks. How I am posting now is via e-mail verification on my desktop PC at home with a "temp" range ban for "abuse" that has been up for about a month now.
>(except for those with cookies that are older than when it was implemented).
Well that won't last much longer cause eventually your cookies in your browser expire or you'll lose them by some other means.

>>82289982
>why I can post just fine without incognito if my range is actually "temporary" banned.
I would guess you might have an old cookie that isn't present in incognito mode and that's what causing you problems there.

>>82290167
Any time I have heard about people going to the IRC to complain about something they either ignore you or give you some bullshit reply and then kick you.

>>82290264
>that the most virulent memes come from /pol/ specifically. That identified the problem for them.
/pol/ is a fucking cancer that should have been dealt with a long time ago. But in typical 4chan fashion they let the problems fester and now it's too big to control. It's in the same vein as them letting the soijack posting get too wild on /qa/ and when they got out of control and raided another board, they shut /qa/ down and those fuckers never forgot how "wronged" they were and hacked 4chan a few years later. Now imagine if /pol/ was closed, the level of anger and drama that would ensue afterwards. It would likely result in 4chan getting hacked again or getting in trouble with the server host after several fake complaints to take it offline.
>>
>>82290264
>There really is an international effort headed by major universities, super pacs, NGOs, and state agencies to shitpost in 4chan to make people leave it.
Man, I just want to talk about cartoons, anime, vidya, and visit /trash/ for the various furry threads here.
I hate the fact that an imageboard full of hobby boards and special interest boards could be (or already is) ruined by politics and world drama. Fuck that shit.
If I ran an imageboard any politics talk would be banned. All it does is cause trouble.

>>82290571
In other news fucking fandom now implemented Cloudflare checkpoint shit on all their wikis now. Hate that shit.
>>
>>82290830
Creating /pol/ and /news/ really were the worst ideas moot had. 4chan should have stayed as a hobby and porn website.
>>
>>82290888
Should /k/ have been created? Seems like talking about guns and /pol/ go hand in hand.
>>
>>82290702
Because of the other study. 4chan (just /pol/ really because the rest of the site is bluepilled) produces memes that they can't contend with(because their messages are true). They've tried everything else to control it and it all fails(because theyre stupid). So just like every other half baked nose.picking 14 year old troll who has ever trolled, these high paid academics and major state operators have devolved into shitposting.
>>
>>82290757
>/pol/ is a fucking cancer
Wake the fuck up!
It's not "pol" it's not anything stupid like you think. It's not a group of people or a website. It's the Truth. Memes that tell the truth win arguments. People repost them to win arguments. If another meme won the argument they'd post that instead, but they don't. Not according to Harvard data scientists and sociologist. Not a group I have any respect for, but you might?
Closing /pol/ won't make the message nit true. It won't make the arguments and points less effective. And it's already too late since elon allowed holocaust rebutting on x the memes already hit maximum dissemination. Race realism and knowledge of jewish crimes are already in the mainstream consciousness.
>>82290888
>>82290830
Yeah? I want to talk about cartoons too, but 5hen all the cartoons became shitty. Then I tried to talk about why they're shitty and I kept getting banned over and over because it was against the rules. No you see, everything has to go to shit and you MUST pretend to not onow why or else you're banned. And users like you cheer the policy on. Did anything get better when le racism got.banned on 4channel? When saying nigger got you posts hidden briefly?
Because it's not the fault of the people pointing it out.

These extra long captcha loading times are fucking with posting back to back, I gotta wait till one is loaded 100% before loading it on another page on another board or I get an error that I typed it wrong.

Also, after I hit send, if the server takes too long to submit my post, my captcha then fucking expries. This is the 4th time trying to get this post through.

but the thing is that, they learnt nothing, and nothing happened because nothing ever happens. The boards will never be what they were in the 00's and early 10's

also holy shit how many captchas to do one fucking post! verify, to be told to use email, and to enter it more captcha and after clicking the link more captcha. Fuck man

the only real reason I use 4chan nowadays is to try and get free art and to try and get assistance in hunting for lost media.
I don't mind, nor care, if it ends up getting nuked. it's the same as every other social media platform. the only difference is it's easy to make a name for yourself here because there's no algorithms or having to find people. it's just a giant cesspool of people.
