People say "the thread doesn't matter" because a single bad actor can push almost any narrative they want with a little work due to the anonymous nature of the site. It means that you shouldn't take what seems to be the group opinion from the thread as gospel, since one shithead can samefag all day while many of the actually active members of the community simply don't engage with them ("don't feed the trolls" is one of the fundamental rules of places like this)

It DOESN'T mean that you can constantly be antagonistic and contrarian in the thread and no one will care. Even if people aren't engaging with the drama of the thread, they still see it, and first impressions are still important. The first impression the majority of people here have of you are from you seeming to make an active effort to piss people off, so why do you seem surprised that people are pissed at you and don't want you around?

Anyway, I have had some great conversations with some interesting fellas here so far which disproves your claim.
