I just got back from overseas in SEA and feel way more relaxed and at ease here in fucking Los Angeles, CA of all places than I ever did during my 3 months overseas in Asia. Asia/SEA was amazing before COVID, truly paradise, I have been traveling there routinely since 2015, long before this Passport Bro bullshit ever became this sort of trademarked "movement", but its absolutely horrendous now. SEA women now are OBSESSED with social media and dating apps, OBSESSED with KPop/Korean culture (and with that an even bigger obsession with not just looks, but a very specific certain kind of look, which makes looksism now even worse in SEA than in the West), have tons of choices from the hordes of simps and passport bros that are not only arriving in person to the country, but even just messaging them and simping for them and blowing up their egos online all the way from overseas without even stepping foot in the country. The ones that do come to the country from East Asia/America are now coming with big money bags too, just itching to spoil these women, making them more and more expensive, entitled and harder to date. All this and much more has made them way worse than Western women now in 2024. I recently go back from Japan and it was somewhat of a let down. Everywhere I went I saw Pajeets, Kebeb stands, Europeans, burgers and other Canadiasn. It was sickening to say the least Akihabara was a fucking nightmare to navigate because every fucking faggot was walking around taking pictures or speaking so loud and rudely, it almost made me feel embarressed for being associated with that trash. It was really dishearting to see how mopped Japan has become even the smaller places I wanted to go to like Hakanoe or Nikko were filled with busses of people from the anglosphere. I barely got to use any of the Japanese I was learning because every place I went handed me an english menu and then wouldn't speak japanese to me even after telling them something in their native tongue. I guess they are just so use to it they want to practice english more than ever due to the yen being in the trash sadly.

The world just needs better requirements for entry into countries like if you're going to Japan you need an N5 or show at least completing some duolingo courses to speak the native tongue or maybe a basic quiz to filter out the burgers giving everyone a bad name. It would solve so much issues when people who have passion to travel, actually get accepted by locals and not thrown into the cattle.

The thing that I think is the most unfortunate is people travelling just to go over their itinerary (which itself is based on google reviews and tripadvisor), taking their IG shots and basically not interacting at all. It was way more fun when people spoke to eachother (whether foreigners between themselves or locals recommending something) and you wound up in various different cool places with different people. But this isn't unique to travel, it is not uncommon to go to a bar and see that there is virtually no in-person interaction going on, definitely not between strangers, but sometimes even people at the same table will all stare into their phone and not communicate between eachother. I think with such asocial behaviour some of that adventure/excitement inherent in going to new places is sort of gone. It doesn't feel really like an open-ended adventure as much, even if you try to make it, because other people just don't cooperate anymore.

It helped I studied Japanese for 4 months prior with my wife.

As of yesterday there were 3x as many tourists as when I arrived. Many of them just walking into openly full restaurants with a queue, bumbling about. Anglo boomers with no awareness, no cultural awareness. I give respect to the young Westerners for going all out in fashion though. I guess the question I had for them was: why come here to just be yourself?

It will take some time to die down, but Japan has been overtravelled and the negative effects are clear (stranger wariness, lack of adventure)
