Isle of Berk Edition

>Last Thread: >>2620517

>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

Thread Tip Pro: When in line for a coaster with a bunch of normies, feel free to autistically infodump to them every single iota of information you know about the ride you are about to go on: opening date, manufacturer, # of inversions, stats etc.

Video preview of the isle of Berkshire Hunt

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WYJfbVMeA4

Key new details they've shown:

>a lot more of an actual island than it's looked from the construction work
>water battle ride has a "hand built wooden" aesthetic
>show confirmed to be a version of the Beijing shows
>Animatronic dragons around the isle, both fixed and wandering

Not shown: the insane queues for that Dragon rider training flatride, that kind of ride always has a painfully slow load/unload.

It's clear that Universal is pouring tons of money into this to make sure it's as big a game-changer in the florida theme park scene as the wizarding world originally was (maybe even more so)
>>
>>2637087
Upon first view it looks a bit more flat than I was expecting, I assumed there would be higher mountains and stuff, so I hope all the forced perspective stuff on for example the big mead hall works out. But I'm sure it's hard to tell from renders like this, it'll look better irl. Looks great, and the amount of dragon figures/animatronics will really add to the atmosphere.

Hitting up CP in late may. Probably one of the most annoyingly placed big park in the US. Still somehow insanely crowded every day of the season.

Scared to know the wait time for TT2

I'm done taking annual trips to Orlando.
Now I'm just going to move there this fall, getting AP's to Universal, disney, and seaworld.

Is the premier pass worth it over preferred?

How do you think Epic Universe will affect annual passes?
-Will AP holders get early access to the park?
-Will AP prices jump a lot when renewing around that time?
>>
>>2637176
Price increase with Epic Universe, may have passholder preview days.

I'm so excited. It makes me want to watch those movies. I only saw the first one, and only in the theater when it originally came out. I remember liking it.

>>2637292
There's a good argument for the second one being better than the first. Third isn't as good but it's still decent.
>>
>>2637279
>Final part of the coaster has the biggest drop immediately followed by an airtime bunny hop

Neat, one of the things I remember reading in an interview in John Wardley is that he really hated coasters where the final stretches were boring flat bits just aiming to get the car back to the station as easily as possible so he'd always try to have a surprise element at the end.

Looks like they flattened out a second airtime hill, maybe they were worried people would come off the ride puking up.

Which of the smaller SF and CF parks do y'all think will get closed or sold off post-merger? I think these parks are in danger:

Frontier City - Small park with shit attendance owned by EPR.
La Ronde - Low attendance to population and owned by EPR.
Darien Lake - Low attendance to population and owned by EPR but makes money off campground and concerts.
Michigan's Adventure - Low attendance, low population, people go to Cedar Point or Great America but northern MI has nothing comparable so who knows.
Valleyfair - Terrible attendance to population ratio. Short operating season. Little to no investment in almost 20 years.

Parks with disappointing attendance that could go either way:

Discovery Kingdom - Like CGA, this park might not even be profitable because of the area it's in. Attendance is disappointing relative to the population. Maybe it will get a boost when CGA closes but that's still a ways off. Animals add to operating expense.
St. Louis - An original SF park. Victim of a shrinking population that doesn't appear to be on the upswing. Probably safe but who knows.
America - Low attendance to population.

Parks that are probably safe:

Great Escape - Overperforms for its local population, in a resort area, has a popular hotel with indoor waterpark.
New England - Good attendance to population ratio.
Fiesta Texas - Good attendance to population ratio and in a region experiencing population growth. SF has been investing in it for the last decade, safest on the list.
Worlds of Fun - KC might be an up and coming area in terms of population growth and there is now going to be that Mattel park nearby. Saw recent investment from CF after years of not much.
Dorney Park - Does very well considering the competition and it's getting investment after years of nothing. CF was investing until they bought the Paramount parks.

All the rest I say are safe. Not sure about waterparks, they're a bit different.
>>
>>2637473
Correction, La Ronde is owned by Montreal. Not EPR. Still not owned by SF, they just operate the park.
>>
>>2637473
This sounds like doomposting but I think the new company is going to enter a long slow decline, with a park being divested every few years to raise capital. Discovery Kingdom is the obvious choice for a first-round sale as California is a challenging state to do business in, it's a small park, it has no room to expand, and the land has relatively high value. In the long run I'm not sure whether this will lead to stabilization after some contraction or an outright failure, with parks being pieced out to new operators.

Unrelated, before the merger SFI was in the process of outright purchasing SFOT from its investors who technically owned the park. In that agreement the company could buy out the investors and they're in the process of getting it back under corporate control. A similar situation exists at SFOG and I presume the company will want to buy that park from its investors too. That's going to be hundreds of millions of dollars for each park, money that won't go towards new rides or improvements.
>>
>>2637473
Merlin may snap up one or two on the cheap and add a Peppa Pig world and/or Sealife center to boost the amount of families going.
>>
>>2637497
Some say that SeaWorld is the obvious choice to buy DK but that's not going to happen; that land is more valuable than the park and SeaWorld is cheap, they won't want it. DK will be gone, they'll probably sell the land and lease the park for a few years just like CGA. Six Flags America is maybe better off as real estate too. The other smaller parks don't sit on valuable land (or they don't own the land) and are probably not worth much. They don't own La Ronde and I can't see somebody taking that over before it becomes real estate. They don't own Frontier City but it's small and I can see it sticking around (the 'new' Premier should buy it since it's their baby that started the SF mess). They don't own Darien Lake and Herschend already tried running it, I can see the amusement park portion closing and nobody will care.

Palace might be interested in Dorney if it was for sale. Maybe Herschend would buy the Missouri parks or Valleyfair. Valleyfair might be a good candidate for a Legoland conversion if Merlin was interested and could keep it open longer. Don't think anybody would want Michigan's Adventure, it's not near a major population area. The option to buyout SFOG is in 2027 and SFOT in 2028 and they'll do it but both CF and SF each have $2.3 billion in debt. So to go along with your doomposting, something else has to give. Probably one of the big parks. Canada's Wonderland and SF Mexico to keep things in the US? CW is very successful park that CF continues to invest in though. Knott's and/or MM because California? I can't see that.. but California is very expensive. This merger is bad idea if you're a Cedar Fair investor... too bad the SeaWorld merger never happened.

This. It’s a good theme for a themed land even if you’re not familiar with the IP. Similar with the Secret Life of Pets ride in Hollywood, that IP is even less popular but it’s a ride with cute animated dogs and cats.

There's still a lot that I'm unsold on with Epic Universe (particularly the branding, only the Nintendo area feels like it'd be relevant in a decade), but if nothing else it's the most interesting thing to happen to theme parks since the turn of the millennium.
>>
>>2638131
How would Harry Potter not be relevant?
>>
>>2638137
When was the last time it was "actually" relevant? 2 of the 3 Fantastic Beasts films bombed and that's what the entire Epic Universe land is based on, Rowling has spent the past decade building up online hatred towards her which carries over to people's enjoyment of her work (regardless of your position on it, it's real), and the only major content on the horizon is an HBO television show which just retells the same story as the original movies.
>>
>>2638143
I genuinely have no idea what planet you're living on lmao like wtf are you talking about
>>
>>2638131
The Universal Monster brand is strong enough that it will be relevant in a decade.

>>2638143
It's not going to be based entirely on Fantastic Beasts, for better or worse the Ministry of Magic ride is going to be set in the regular Potter time period

Nobody cares about her position against trannies anon. Literally nobody except autistic “people” who won’t even exist in a couple of years because they will kill themselves. That video game came out last year and sold 22+ million copies. Harry Potter is timeless. Fantastic Beasts is not but Universal changed the attraction in the land to HP. It’s more relevant around the globe than Star Wars.

I worked the college program at MGM on 9/11. They told us not to tell the guests what happened. Like a week before hand they went over the shutdown plan but said they never had to use it. Then a week later they shut down the park. They made us wear lanyards with our ID after that. At first they were like “you might have to pay for them, Magic Kingdom got them for free but we might not have the budget to give them out for free” then they gave them out for free but I couldn’t believe how fucking cheap and jewish they were over a fucking piece of plastic and cloth

question to UOAP holders, is premium worth it?

The only differences I see between preferred and premium:
>1 free HHN ticket

prime sounds nice, but valet is never really free, after tip.
>water park blackout dates

Unironically, yes. This might be my boomer dad take, but if you really maximize it and don't stop to smell the roses, you can do Universal Studios Orlando + Islands of Adventure in a day, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios in a day, Magic Kingdom in a day, and Hollywood Studios in a day. If you really want to take your time and enjoy yourself, a day at each of the above parks, coming out to six days total. Spend the last day of the week at Disney Springs and/or CityWalk
>>
>>2638679
this will entirely depend on how you plan on visiting.

Anon, go to hell. Space Mountain is garbage. Your opinion is garbage. I like the queue and its music. I liked it better before they enclosed it. The ride sucks. It’s sucked for over 30 years. I hope they replace it with something modern and completely different so that it immensely triggers you and pisses you off. Stop with the childish “go kill yourself” jewishness in every thread. Are you the same one that said Sheikra was too intense? Don’t be such a fucking baby
>>
>>2638773
It depends on what you're doing. If you're rushing attraction to attraction all day long then yeah 3 days is more than enough if it's not retardedly crowded. If you like to take your time and relax then you can certainly stretch it out. I've been to Universal/Disney so much I always enjoy taking my time, playing golf, even occasionally heading back to the room to take an afternoon nap (especially when I'm staying at the Polynesian at Disney or the Portofino at Universal due to the ease of getting back most of the time).

If you haven't been to Disney before you'd be a full not to spend at least a day or two there, there's still plenty to see and do.

Not big on the idea of Ghostbusters since it'll probably be based on the new movie, and I also don't think A Quiet Place sounds good. I'd much rather have a Universal Monsters house for the Creature and a FNaF house (I don't even care about the franchise, but I want to see how they pull off the costumes).
>>
>>2639075
I've heard rumors bouncing back and forth between Ghostbusters being a 1&2 composite house, a Frozen Empire house, or an Afterlife/Frozen Empire composite. I honestly wouldn't mind any. I would love it if they had a meet and greet with Ghostbuster characters somewhere in the park, though that might be unlikely.
A Quiet Place could be interesting if they absolutely smother the place in soundproofing pads to try and muffle and dampen the house, but it could also be a huge dud.
Fully agree on Creature and FNAF.

I haven't been personally, but I've heard the waits are even longer than Orlando, probably due to the decreased number of houses and zones to funnel people into.

I went to Universal in 2022, and didn't need express passes really, but if I do HHN next time, I think I'll definitely want the express pass. I don't like lines.

i went to discovery kingdom and great america recently. both were kind of depressing in different ways. great america because i actually felt it was kind of well run, but was on borrowed time anyway, with no new investments on the horizon. dead park walking sort of vibe but the railblazer crew was working hard like nothing was wrong

discovery kingdom was so poorly run, with closed coasters and the ones that were open on one train ops.
>>
>>2639416
That sadly is about what I expected. SFDK sounds like a combo of being poorly run plus being in California. CGA got fucked over by Levi's Stadium but California is largely to blame for it closing. Attendance and revenue are supposed to be decent, they just don't make any money.
>>
>>2639414
When it's truly all said and done, it will be interesting to see how things wind up, like in 10 years. Some competition is on the way too. Universal's got their family-themed regional park which is probably the first of several. Multiple Mattel adventure parks. Herschend expanding Dollywood and SDC and making them into resorts. I doubt the American Heartland project will materialize but there is that too. These might not be in direct competition with the combined SF/CF portfolio but still, they will have way too many parks to be managing.

who is going this summer?
>>
>>2639719
I'm gonna try to go to the preview event at the end of this month, registration opens tomorrow. First time they've really showed the initial launch without edits. Our fears have come true, it is weak. From launch until the end of LSM stators it's 7 seconds like in the original animation and the initial kick isn't there. Worse than a Mack launch. Waste of double rowed stators
>>
>>2639719
That looks really cool. I won't make it this year but maybe next year.
>>
>>2639734
So many thoosies crying about this ride are going to drop it once they feel it for real...

The first launch will likely feel underwhelming, going 0-70. however, going into the 2nd launch doesnt mean you are going from 70-100 in that stretch, because you go back to 0 whenever you turn around. so you will still get to fell the full 0-100 in reverse. then the final 0-120 forwards. it Will be at a slower rate, but the extra ride time, and all the extra hang time on the back spike will make this new ride way better than the old one.
>>
>>2639734
>>2639808
I don't think the launches are going to be very intense, but it looks to take the top hat a lot faster than it previously did, which at least seems interesting
>>
>>2639808
That’s what I’m hoping for, a better overall ride experience. Even if the added elements are similar to Escape from Krypton (which is closed often) it’s higher, it goes forward and backwards and launches 3 times, and it still goes up and over the top hat at 120mph. It takes 9 seconds to go 0-120mph but the 0 follows a moment of weightlessness while dropping 350ft or so off the 420ft spike. Sense of speed going backward at 100mph and then forward to 120mph will be great. Just worried about the slight shakiness in the video.

>>2639814
Could be because they have some control over the speed because it’s LSM. El Toro Ryan said when he worked TTD the trains made it over less than 120mph
>>
>>2639814
There is a comparison POV with TTD on reddit. Starts when they both move in to position then TT2 starts the launch sequence first while TTD waits for the catch car to come back and the launch to reset. TTD launches right after TT2 comes down the spike and makes it to the top hat sooner but TT2 is flying and syncs up with it at the top.

>if they had enough land to do this they still wouldn't waste all that space
>those narrow uneven pathways
>they're just going to let people walk into the water?
>DL is in a built up area with lots of tall hotels, sight lines?
>>
>>2640494
Bob Iger also said Galaxy's edge, new epcot, and tron are their response to epic universe
>>
>>2640659
lol, they're clearly the response to Harry Potter. Hagrids and GotG are probably the top 2 family coasters in the world but now they've got to deal with an entire park of worlds as well themed as Galaxies Edge. 'New Epcot' is just them trying to fix making stupid fucking decisions regarding Innoventions and the body pavilion.

This is just cope for them not really having anything lined up. They're four years from having a clone retheme and what will probably be another trackless b-ride-pretending-to-be-an-e-ticket dark ride. Universal will have finished phase 2 of Epic Universe before they have anything built.
>>
>>2640494
Avatar is bad theme park IP, this would be a waste of space they could use for something people actually care about and obviously a lot of money. Avatar is box office gold but as I've said before, it has no cultural impact and doesn't move merchandise. Avatar was their (second) answer to Wizarding World and after acquiring Star Wars it doesn't make sense to continue building theme park attractions for an IP that nobody cares about outside of a movie theater.

>>2640590
They have giant parking lots next to the hotels across the street that are never full and have been slated for expansion for over 20 years. I think back in the 90s these were a campground and some motor lodges that they bought and demolished. And while DCA and the garage were being built they were used as parking for for DL.

>>2640659
That's funny if true. Galaxy's Edge is mostly a dud and it was technically their response to Diagon Alley. New Epcot is a mixed bag and Epcot really needed some new stuff, new stuff was long overdue. Tron and Cosmic Rewind are arguably an answer to Hagrid's and Velocicoaster. I think internally they're working on their real answer to Epic Universe but none of these are it
>>
>>2640671
They've already shown off the expansion using those. It's roughly the size of DCA (if you removed the lake) and they were intending to split it between the two parks. Some of the concept art does hint towards a third gate though.

I got the impression from the various tidbits they've said over the last couple of months that they intend to put Avatar land inside existing DCA land.
>>
>>2640673
Looking at it again, that could be a more water filled Avatar land with a big rocky centerpiece so maybe >>2640494 is genuinely what they intend as a starting point for the design. Huge space for what would probably just be FoP and the water ride though (looks like they're going to put a few minor attractions in the narrow bit next to the hotel).

They've specifically said that Fantasy Springs in Tokyo is a potential inspiration for the DL half of the expansion.
>>
>>2640674
They should really make something new and stop cloning shit that doesn't need to be cloned. They don't need two FoPs. One at their global destination resort is plenty.
>>
>>2640671

I think Bob was being retarded with his answer. The $50 gorillion they're supposedly investing is their real answer to EU. He was pretending like they were being proactive when in reality due to their own incompetence they're being completely reactionary. I think they vastly underestimated how big and now much investment Universal was willing to put into EU and now that the hype is starting to build, mixed with how pissed people have been at Disney lately, Bob is shitting his pants a little bit and knows they've fucked up by not doing anything that last few years.
>>
>>2640699
I recently learned that Bob Iger was the executive who ruined Twin Peaks when it was on TV. He's the one who insisted they reveal who killed Laura Palmer, and his dumbass creative input is what lead to one of the best and most innovative TV shows of all time dropping in the ratings and getting canceled after its second season. Imagine making a colossal fuckup like that, and then feeling comfortable making important decisions for Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel, the biggest and most iconic brands in the world. You see all the anger and displeasure directed at Disney these days and it's incredible how easily it all could've been avoided.

Tokyo Disney has a relatively low ticket cap to keep crowding down, but I have no first-hand experience there. The problem is that these threads don't have enough people in them to really get a sustained conversation against any parks that aren't internationally popular.

For example my local park (Thorpe Park) is about to get an insane coaster like nothing else in the world but there's barely a murmur here because there may be 1-2 other Brits here. The most you get it "looks neat, shame I'll never visit that park" from non-Brits.

The new coaster seems cool but it should have been built way sooner. The last coaster Thorpe Park got was in 2012 with The Swarm and since then the only new additions have been lame flat rides (Ghost Train, Angry Birds 4D, Black Mirror Labyrinth, etc)

I live nowhere near Florida or California so I don't give a shit about their parks. I've been to Disney World twice in my life and have no interest in returning. I'm way more curious about parks near me like SFGAm, Valleyfair, Lost Island, Adventureland, Cedar Point, or Kings Island.

Universalchads, if I decide during my trip that I want to go to Halloween Horror Nights, can I reasonably expect to still be able to get an Express Pass the day of? I don't think I'd want to go without one.
>>
>>2640953
they can sell out, but you can try it. actually cheaper to get a frequent fear pass than it is for 1 night + express, if you have multiple nights available...

>>2640983
I doubt it. It would be a pretty busy week down there with lots of park days. HHN would be something I'd squeeze in. But I'm only interested in going if I can get the express pass. Not really. I've been on it plenty of times, and it's been pretty smooth, but I finally got a back row ride last year and felt a little bit of bumpiness but nothing that detracted from the ride experience.
If you want rough, Hades has you covered. It would easily be one of the best woodies around if that shitty park actually got it retracked.
>>
>>2641168
No thanks. I've seen enough complaints and videos about Hades 360's roughness. Not unless they fully re-track it (which they probably won't). I do want to get to SFGAm one of these days, they seem to have a good mix of everything even if they lack a stand out coaster. I would say it's an underrated park because MM and SFGAdv get talked about the most. Mt Olympus, forget it. I like waterparks and the Dells are waterpark central, but I think I'd rather make the trek to Schlitterbahn Galveston even though it's several hours farther.
>>
>>2640953
They can sell out or massively ramp up in price. They are worth the price if you've only one night to do things though.
>>
>>2641254
Yeah they're definitely expensive, but like you said, if I'm only going to have one night, I want to make it as stress free as possible and make sure I have the best experience possible.
>>
>>2641284
As I said earlier in the thread, I got every maze done with 90 minutes to spare, past midnight most of the queues plummet. We were completely knackered though, you do an absolute shit ton of walking (had a flight the next day too). I would definitely pay for the pass next time to make it much less intense and have more time to enjoy the snacks and drinks.

Couldn't actually book the express pass online, I think they actually secretly block overseas visitors from booking them, When I went to book in the park, the prices doubled. Couldn't justify the $500 for the two of us on top of the tickets.
>>
>>2641287
>I would definitely pay for the pass next time to make it much less intense and have more time to enjoy the snacks and drinks.
That's what I'm thinking. I know that if I put in some effort I can do it all in one night without a pass, but I just don't want to work that hard.

Good tip about raising prices. I guess I better decide if I'm going and buy my ticket and pass soon. Interesting about blocking overseas visitors. Here in America it looks like it's an option.
>>
>>2641298
Didn't explicitly block it but no third parties offered it and the website just gave a non-specific error which is why I think it's a secret policy.

Their complex animatronics with a lot of articulation are impressive when they work, however, they seem to spend more time down than they do working. If simplifying them meant more reliability, I would prefer that. I’m surprised they didn’t install something like projections for the Yeti figure to give an illusion of movement rather than leave it static and flash a strobe light all these years. When it worked it was really impressive and the room was lit up like an ice cavern

Not earth shattering but it's got a decent bit of speed and the racing interactions are nice. Should also have a decent capacity which is needed given how insanely busy the park gets.

Kinda cool for a Zierer junior coaster.. being a shuttle coaster and the racing aspect. Our Legoland parks (US) don’t get very busy. The Florida one has the infrastructure to handle crowds but it’s a hike from Orlando and there is too much competition.

>>
>>2642240
It looks comically stupid with that paint scheme. It’s also massively overrated as is the ride model. A re-tracked 90s B&M invert is a big yawn for me. This one is only noteworthy because of its theme and because it’s not tall (because Alton Towers) and has a different sequence of elements from the norm because of it. The flaw of every B&M invert is they suck unless you sit in the front because you can’t see anything. It is also an extremely common ride model found in practically every park (and the ones without it usually have an SLC)
>>
>>2642529

They really do suck in that respect. For inverts 2-across seating is the way to go.

>For inverts 2-across seating is the way to go.
totally agree, the new gerslaugher infinity inverted coaster feels incredibly open, easily the best trains for inverts that ive been on. i think wing coasters fix a lot of the problems with inverts and still give a similar feeling of them while having a better experience for head / feet choppers because you can actually fucking see where the track is going
>>
Fantasy Springs needs a fast pass to enter around opening. For some reason the only ride that needs a fast pass to ride is Tinkerbell's Busy Buggies but given it only uses 4 seating vehicles the capacity for that may be shit.

The PeterPan ride needs 3D glasses which makes it likely it's a Ratatouille style ride. Rapunzel's boat ride is a high capacity boat ride, hopefully it'll be a similar level to Shanghai Pirates

Nor do they ‘feel’ any different than the Flights of Fears or Rock and Roller Coaster despite the latter two pulling less Gs and having less intense launches; once you’ve don’t a few of these launches they’re all kind of the same and don’t ‘feel’ like anything. They’re still fun. Mack launches are still slow and weak. But a launch is a launch. I doubt the GP will even notice TT2’s first launch is weak

People debate it though because Maxx Force has non linear acceleration so has a higher peak but if you take into account instantaneous acceleration it's near impossible to measure or be sure that there's not some obscure coaster somewhere that beats it for 0.1 seconds.
>>
>>2642791
Will be interesting to see, the current trackless system just isn't good enough for Spider-man type rides on its own (with proper motion Ratatouille would be far better).

It's notable that they haven't really promoted a single ride as being the star attraction, if that Magic Kingdom expansion happens, I hope they take a similar approach with 3-4 solid rides rather than focusing on 1 major ride that they then have to do boarding passes for and it has minimal effect on crowding.

>Nemesis has been reopened since the 16th of March and no one in these threads have mentioned it a single time
What is there to say about it? Like I live in the UK and I don't really care that much about it just being retracked. I doubt these threads made much uproar when the Hulk Coaster was retracked either.
The most interesting thing about "Nemesis Reborn" is that they used it as an excuse to finally refurbish and reopen the Nemesis Sub-Terra drop tower dark ride which had been SBNO since The Smiler incident in 2015.

I think all the Intamin hydraulic launch coasters are on borrowed time. Some will get removed, others will get an LSM conversion. I think Ka will likely get the TT2 treatment but they’ll have to move some stuff to make room for a spike. Intamin probably has their own “kit” for these conversions and they did bid on the TT2 project but CF went with the lower bidder and probably got some flats and the wild mouse added on for it. If they’re pleased with TT2 I can see the merged Six Flags doing the same but it would be interesting to see what Intamin’s take is

Here is a size comparison of all the Florida parks.
Epic universe looks to be one of the largest.
Sure, you could say epcot, animal kingdom, and busch gardens are bigger, but so much of that is from lakes and safari.
>>
>>2643269
To be fair a lot of Epic's plot is just expansion pads
>>
>>2643269
The more space, the better the experience. Overly crowded ruins it imho plus people are wanting to save every last penny
>>
>>2643352
To be fair, so is Epcot’s. Half of World Showcase is expansion pads with temporary structures like trailers used as office space. Plus they have entire giant pavilion spaces that are unused (Wonders of Life aka “Play”, that millennium pavilion, arguably the Odyssey, most of Journey)

All the coaster companies would rip them off if they made a coaster park. Mack charged them something like 4x the price of Time Traveler for Slinky Dog. Just for the coaster. I don't know how much just the coaster was for Cosmic Rewind but $500 million seems like overkill. Yeah they had to pay the actors but it's like 90% screens and projections

>>2644258
I get they've basically abandoned the studio film but I think you could pick 10 people off the street and they'd come up with a better name for the park. Not to mention it's already been done in a less cringe way.

I don't even think it justifies the name. You've a vaguely Pixar area, Avengers campus and even after the expansion... A Mary Poppins walkway with a random cheap Tangled ride leading to a long walk to get to a single Frozen ride.

>>2644330
Disney overspend on R&D massively and are just completely bloated, I'd imagine that stretches to their demands on the coaster manufacturer too with them constantly bugging them for minor unique features that they need to make from scratch. There's also the fact that they need ultra high capacity rides that operated year around with downtime needing to be at an absolute minimum.

I know people criticise the screens in Cosmic Rewind but the ride itself is hugely premium. The ride queue (that you annoyingly can't even really see), the pre-show, incredible complex zoning that's also incorporated into the ride experience (watch videos of what the ride does if there's a delay on the launch and transport hill). It's also an insanely huge coaster with a new ride system tuned specifically for Disney.

>>2644258
>>2644342
Wait what the actual fuck. That's just bizarre. At least this means they're gonna put more effort in I guess? Hopefully they don't disappoint with the post-Frozen stuff
>>
>>2644336
I enjoyed Cosmic Rewind the ride, but I wasn't impressed with the queue. It was so forgettable that I don't really remember it. Same with the pre-show which was almost all screen. I was surprised there were no animatronics. The one time I rode it we waited at the top of the lift hill for a while and the black guy kept making talking and making jokes while we waited for our turn to go into the launch area.

People gave Universal shit for years for using screens and those same people don't seem to care when Disney does it. Somebody on wdwmagic pointed out that Rise was half screens and projections, and that triggered a few people into responding in disagreement... but it is largely a screen ride. Even the storm troopers on the ride are 2d projections. Rise looks a lot more expensive than Cosmic Rewind or Tron, but the latter two have the same price tag. Speaking of Tron, it's short but it's a good ride too. It's also screens and mirrors and projections but it looks like Tron.
>>
I'm glad I'm not a Disney sperg and have rides I can get excited about that aren't tame as hell family coasters & boring kids rides
>>
>>2644346
DLP is definitely the redheaded stepchild of the parks division. I think the biggest problem is the fact Disney put it in fucking France, because the French are certified communist retards that only care and wine and cheese. They should have put it in Italy or a more common "vacation" area (think Florida of Europe). Fuck the French.
>>
>>2644372
They got arrogant after Tokyo, combination of the French being the French and investors who had no real passion and refused to pour enough money on it when it wasn't an instant success.
>>
>>2644338

>>
>>2644366
And regional parks have better kids rides than Disney. Kids have more fun marathoning flat rides than riding Disney rides. Not to say they don’t like Disney rides, they’re just not as fun to kids. Maybe for older kids and teens who don’t like thrill rides.
>>
>>2644360
>Somebody on wdwmagic pointed out that Rise was half screens and projections, and that triggered a few people into responding in disagreement
I don't even know how anyone would disagree with that. One segment of the ride is a literal simulator and 2/3 of the preshows have no animatronics at all.

The park limits capacity as it was getting too overcrowded and they wanted to encourage a more even spread of visitors throughout the year. They only open up tickets and hotels something like 3 months in advance.

Hey Florida bros,
I'm moving to Orlando later this year. Planning on picking up the Premier pass to Universal, Platinum pass to Seaworld, but when I look at disney, I will probably get the lowest tier.
It looks like the only difference in disney pass tiers is the number of blackout dates, and I'm fine just going to universal/seaworld during busy times, so I don't even care about the blackouts.
Am I missing anything here? is there more reason to upgrade?
>>

Yea, I've been looking through the seaworld passes, and noticed platinum is barely more expensive than the gold pass with 4 parks, and I've been amazed by how much I hear you get for free throughout the year.

Really excited to live right in the middle between all these parks, 5-10 minute drive to all of them, picking a park to drop by and hang out every evening...
>>

At 4am when there's no traffic maybe. It took us almost an hour to get to Universal from the Margaritaville resort a few weeks ago. From the time we left our condo til the time we stepped foot in IoA, it was almost 90 mins. Same trip we drove to BGT, parked, and were in the park in about the same amount of time. The drive back was longer but still. Traffic congestion can get really bad, especially when both tourists and employees make their commutes.

On a related note, Disney have added 'free' Disney dining back to the hotel packages (for UK visitors at least) and various cashback/money off offers around various sites. Coincidentally this covers all around when Epic Universe is expected to open. Nice to see competition having an effect.

You guys ever notice that coaster enthusiasts tend to be fairly nerdy / autistic on average?

My theory is that most people with big thrill seeking urges will just take up extreme sports, which are usually dangerous, and require a lot of skill and risk to do high thrill stuff.

Coasters are a super safe, super easy way for anyone to seek out thrills, and most athletes will say they are too tame to find exciting.

I just think its funny when anyone brags about riding extra intense coasters, as if it takes some level of skill to sit down and strap in...

what are you guys' thoughts on this?

definitely makes sense as an autist trap, with the trains and the intellectual properties and all.
>>
>>2646882
Anybody who is an enthusiast of anything is going to be a nerd about it. Also most sports are not extreme sports. Professional athletes visiting theme parks sometimes get scared on coasters, especially the black ones. Some coaster enthusiasts can overlap with skiing and snowboarding. It’s definitely a nerd community but compared to other nerd communities, thooseies tend to look more normal on average (but not all of them obviously)

Skydiving terrified me until we (me and the guy I was strapped to) dropped out of the plane. It was just like floating after that until the parachute came out (which for me wasn't painful, some people say it's painful). All the major coasters and even many of the middling ones are more intense than skydiving. Skydiving is just exponentially less safe than a coaster. I've never signed a waiver like that before where I had to initial like 10 different places that said "you might die and if you do we aren't liable".

Aside from thoosies being nerdy and on the spectrum (which is true) I’m not sure I’m following. You said extreme sports but then “most athletes”. Most “athletes” of extreme “sports”? Like 1990s/2000s X-games stuff? Or did you mean like basketball and baseball? The latter isn’t exactly a thrilling activity. Is it really about the thrills when thoosies go out of their way to seek out kiddie coasters?

POV looks neat. It doesn't have a 2nd drop but it also doesn't have a MCBR. I wish I stopped at Dorney when I took my family to Hershey. Cedar Point's our home park and I really want to ride Demon Drop again plus they have an impulse and they replaced ours (which I loved) with an overpriced bar and a wild mouse. Next time.

Speaking of Hershey, I heard so many good things and the top coasters are great. But I've heard people say "it's almost like Disney World" and absolutely not.. maybe they meant Chocolate World which is a separate attraction. My kids don't ride coasters yet and there wasn't shit to do aside from a small collection of flats (some of which are for toddlers which they've outgrown). It was just as crowded as Cedar Point except the layout is worse and the operations are terrible. It wasn't even that nice of a park, I thought Carowinds was much nicer looking and people give that one shit for how it looks. It was clean. It had roaming bands which was nice. And the Hershey characters (which are also at the free chocolate world). They don't really leverage their candy IP much. It was very disappointing aside from the top coasters.

Absolutely beautiful day at SeaWorld . Great place for teens. Pipeline is amazing!! Sunny, breezy weather...park is really clean, new fresh and updated.

Pipeline wasn't open last time I was there. I'm really looking forward to checking it out.

I know a few Thoosies who became coaster fans because of roller coaster tycoon, myself included. I used to be a part of some RCT forums and even then you could tell there was a tangent of autism in the forums. Focussing on my new details of coaster reproductions, and quite literally knowing every small stat and detail of a given coaster. It’s definitely autism bait.
>>
>>2646979
I really need to get back to Dorney. Haven't been there is years.
>>2647153
Hershey's a bit overrated in my opinion. Like you said, the coasters are great, and I like that I can pop over to the zoo midday when the crowds get nuts. However, the water park is underwhelming and there's just not much to do outside of the coasters. I also think the layout is fucking awful, and it has gotten very crowded in recent years. It's great to have as a local park, but I can't imagine traveling across the country for it, though at least there are numerous other parks you can visit nearby on the same trip.
>>
>>2646882
Your entire framing is incorrect.
>You guys ever notice that [nerds] tend to be nerds on average?

Besides coasters, there is no way to get even close to experiencing those G-forces, at those speeds at those heights, unless you're like a stunt pilot or Formula One driver. Saying that "extreme sports" - which you never specify - are more intense than high level rollercoasters is a fantastical fabrication.
>most athletes will say they are too tame to find exciting.
Says who?

>as if it takes some level of skill to sit down and strap in...
It's obviously not about skill, it's about being bold enough to get onboard because plenty of people still hate extreme coasters, which is a natural fear.

And like other people suggested, it's not as if the coaster nerds are exclusive to thrills or even coasters. They just like theme park stuff.

The only thing you get right is that there are a lot of autistic park/ride/coaster enthusiasts. Why that is...? I don't really understand and couldn't begin to answer.

you cant really die on a rollercoaster so its hard to call it more intense than some extreme sports, sure they give those G-forces but you are 100% safe at the same time, its probably not a good comparison tbdesu

Lines are not bad, all the shows are great, and Kraken is a great Classic coaster

Definitely a good argument in that being a spiritual successor.

It's a shame the Tokyo Space Mountain mk2 seems to be a more standard multi-launch.

It's pretty nice. I wonder when they'll make the announcement about their new ride(s). They got thoosies freaking out since they put layout diagrams for a raptor, wild moose, and Intamin ultra surf in their teaser.

The Wild moose looks so fun but I feel they're missing a trick not designing it for 4-people-single-carriage cars (with an additional block to boost capacity if needed) and there's not getting around the supports being uglier than even Pinfari's.

Hope Blackpool pleasure beach get one to put in the space of the classic "oh fuck I'm going to die on this thing" wood wild mouse that they fucking tore down overnight without warning.

On that subject Blackpool Pleasure Beach announced their clone of Autopia is being torn down but at least they're holding an event this time. Makes sense, it's a terrible ride in the rain and takes up a shitload of space in one of the densest parks in the planet.
>>
>>2647285
What extreme “sports”? Spelunking? Skydiving? Not sports and thoosies are often into these things too. And you can die. Or are you referring to gay shit like motocross and snowboarding? They’re not even comparable. Extreme sports are still around but they kinda fell out of popular culture in the early 2000s. I don’t think thoosies even think about the safety aspect considering how many thoosie apologists there are for the unsafe and poorly maintained coasters at Mt Olympus or traveling Schwarzkopf loopers (or any traveling ride for that matter considering how common accidents are)
>>
>>2647285
>100% safe
The Smiler says hi. Properly maintained and operating coasters have excellent safety records but if they were 100% safe there wouldn’t be incidents. Even Disney had a derailment that killed somebody.

It’s the first stand up coaster with moving seats. It has a tame layout compared to Riddler’s Revenge or the former Mantis. The moving seats during airtime moments are pretty amazing though. They’re going to use them on sit down coasters too which is probably a better use (like a hyper)

Depends on when you go. Even then, I waited 10 mins for it on a Saturday before noon a few weeks ago. Park tends to get busiest around noon and on weekdays you can marathon the coasters possibly without leaving your seat. This one I wouldn’t marathon, it has ejector airtime that’s painful because of the trains. Mako I rode 5 or 6 times in a row, I could ride that thing all day

A friend of mine is currently working on concept art for something over at Disneyland Paris. He can't say anything about it considering the absolutely insane amounts of NDA's he had to sign, but things do seem to be moving forward there. Knowing his usual stuff, I wouldn't be surprised it's that rumored expansion of Fantasyland

Are you me?
It's almost as if I got blackout drunk, posted this, and forgot about it.
>>
>>2648219
The two rumours are the Mandalorian coaster (expanding back of discoveryland into Star Wars land) and Lion King water rides. Guessing it's one of those as you make it sound like it's matching current rumours.

I've also called the Disney Ninjas on you and your friend I'm afraid.
>>
>>2648262
They seem to be on a coaster kick. So much for those coaster haters who say coasters don’t belong. I wish they would build exact clones of Fury 325 and Steel Vengence. Forget about sight lines. I guarantee you they would have long lines, further BTFOing the “coasters don’t belong at Disney” coaster haters (who are just to pussy to ride them). They could build on to BTM and put the massive RMC there as a “sequel” or more advanced BTM.
>>

Kek, I know literally nothing, but man I wish I did. Would be cool to hear about how this kind of design work gets made. Just wild guesses from reading online rumors.
I'd be very confused if they make a Lion King water ride tho, seems like such a random pick. Since they love to give Paris copies from other parks, why not Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast? Seems like a slam dunk that would fit like a charm.
>>
>>2648419
So they can port said Lion King water ride to Animal Kingdom too.
>>
>>2648419
Lion King was a big, big hit that still has a large fandom today, easily the most popular of the Disney animation renaissance flicks. Beauty and the Beast was a hit too but TLK was a bigger deal (not saying one or the other would necessarily be the better attraction)

Rip Ride Rockit. I know at least one of you likes that shitty ride. Can’t wait until it gets taken out. Shoulda been a B&M. They could have had Mako with on board audio of your choosing. In the end I’m glad Mako is at where is and I like the lift hill and brake run soundtrack

Why should I give a fuck about what some faggot literally who youtuber says? It's a decent ride in a tight footprint, the worst thing about it is the queue videos. I'll be down there this week and I'm going to ride it and listen to Metallica on the secret menu and I'll be happy

A retheme maybe, but I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. It takes up a relatively tiny amount of real estate and that park desperately needs attractions. I'd be shocked if it gets removed in the next 10 years.
