There really are a bunch of indians in the stores. See them walking and bicycling around town too. Since it's the topic of the day, I can attest that I encountered jeets, nepalis and other shitskins on day one back in January when I went to a Yoshinoya after dropping my bags but overall there really doesn't seem to be that many of them. Interestingly while I saw them work as chain restaurant wageslaves as expected they were absent from the three konbinis I most frequented close to the Asakusa station, and the tourists were overwhelmingly chinese around the kaminarimon gate area. I don't recall seeing jeets in konbinis on the other wards either, but that may have to do with me not going to Edogawa or some other specific place. The place I went to with the least foreigners was without a doubt Nerima which hosts rikkunland, picrel.
>>2913433The jeet conbini situation is weird. On my last trip, the only jeets I saw in 7-Eleven were in Nara. Every Family Mart employee I saw was a jeet, and Lawson was 50/50 with the other half being a variety of south east asians.
>>2913423In most of Japan,l you can drink alcohol anywhere at any time. However, Shibuya station and possibly other areas have restrictions around it. >>2913502There are people like that in every countryâpeople who lack common sense.
>>2913514Who put that nonsense into your head?
>>2913516What about going out? I guess I misinterpreted it. I think it was more along the lines of a lot of people staying at a Ryokan for only a day sould prioritize enjoying it, but since we are staying a few days we wouldn't be missing out on anything.

>>2913523Better than acting like you speak Japanese because you watch a lot of animay
>>2913544You might not have done this when you were in school, but thereâs something called studying where people can learn new things, including languages
>>2913514Thereâs no shortage of things to do in Hakone. Itâs a waste to spend the whole day cooped up in a ryokan. Itâs a completely different story from elderly people with chronic illnesses going to a secluded hot spring deep in the mountains for therapeutic treatment.
>>2913552Its not practical to learn Japanese or any other language as a traveler. It is practical to train a hotel worker to memorize a few phrases in the universal language or just grunt and point at a picture like they do at Lawson 'do you want a bag'When im being charitable i say bag-o card-o with a hearty chuckle
>>2913544If a gaijin talks like an anime character, itâll definitely creep Japanese people out.
>>2913560You cannot carry on any form of conversation by learning through media alone. Talking âlike an anime characterâ would require years of study to get to that level of fluency, unless âtalking like an anime characterâ just means spouting random catchphrases. Otherwise itâs analogous to how much a Japanese would have to study to ACTUALLY speak like Clint Eastwood or a noir detective (I.e. movie characters). Do you know how languages work at all?
>>2913563He probably only speaks English, so no.
>>2913563If you study Japanese in Japan, you'll realize within a year or less just how strange it is to talk like an anime character in everyday life.
>>2913569Let's assume they do speak like an anime character. That's still miles ahead of some douche who can't speak the language at all after living there a year (or 15 years like AboardinJapan)
>>2913569>just how strange it is to talk like an anime character in everyday life.No one disagrees with this point. The point you're missing is that "talking like an anime character" would take a lot more work than you and the other retard think, and someone speaking shitty Japanese because they're just starting to learn the language =/= talking like anime. To add to that, you cannot learn Japanese to any level at all through anime alone. An adult cannot learn ANY language through consuming media alone.>>2913558Yes, it's impractical to learn the local language as a traveler beyond a few phrases for polite interactions, but looking down on someone who is making a legitimate effort to learn/practice the language is a whole another animal. You obviously lack the mental capacity to master another language (as well as the ability to grasp why it matters, which you tack down to just "I already speak the universal language"), so it's like a bully laughing at a kid who's good at something (or trying to be), because you are secretly threatened by displays of genuine ambition.Fluency aside, do you not find it embarrassing that if a clerk asked a follow-up question beyond wanting a bag, you would have no idea what they're saying? Or that as a year-long resident, you still are unable to handle the most basic interaction on the phone or in a store, without playing charades?
Looks like shopping at Don Quijote won't be so crowded anymore>Don Quijote Acquires Toys R Us Japan Business, Inherits All 150 Stores
>>2913580Since Toys R Us stores are often located along suburban bypass roadsâthe kind you'd drive to in your own carâthis probably won't have much of an impact on tourists.
>>2913552Most people who claim to speak japanese are N4 at best. Yet they insist that they are le heckin multilingual
>>2913589If such people exist then theyâre as retarded as people who say they speak Spanish âun poco,â as in those two words and âgraciasâ form up 50% of their entire knowledge of the language. Someone whoâs truly learning a language for its own sake/for practicality are more honest about their limits and abilities, as opposed to people tapping on DuoLingo for âmultilingualâ clout.
>>2913577The only people that speak good English here are jeets . I dont fault the japs or expect them to be fluent. I get by if they speak no English. Me trying to speak Japanese makes life worse for everyone. You are just butthurt because you wasted your time trying to learn a language and I didn't
>>2913611Youâre right, why the fuck did I waste my time learning Japanese living in Japan? I hate how much time I spent only to be able to communicate with people better and read shitt. been here 4 years
>>2913624i get really jealous of people who are proficient, was sitting next to these two Dutch lads at a bar and they spoke amazingly good Japanese, I assumed they lived in Japan, but no, they were just visiting for a few weeks and were weebs who had learnt it for years, it was the first time they'd ever been therelife is so much better when you can speak it well, but fuck it im lazy so only know a bityour quality of life goes up so much by just learning enough, its hard to explain, but very realEnglish alone is going to be a shitty experience imo, more doors open for you learning just some of it
>>2913632Itâs fine, just donât say itâs somehow stupider to learn a language than not, or take pride in the fact that you wonât learn it. Getting started is easier than you think. Read through Tae Kimâs Grammar Guide, that forms an extremely solid formation for making sentences and speaking.

However, they were all identified through security camera footage around the city and were eventually arrested.
>>2913635I find it a lot easier t b h desuknow a fair bit of mandarin at this point and its definitely harder as a native english speakerbut yeah i spend enough time in the country I should learn it way better and have all the opportunity to do so, embarassing meeting those guys who are fluent and they only just got off a plane, makes me feel retarded, also locals love them way more simply with a few words

>>2913652you dont have to be good. you just have to be better than they are at english for you to get something out of it. which isn't a high bar at all.
>>2913652>posting retarded well poisoning shit online yet againthe Japanese will respect you for simply trying your best, or at least doing phone translation via llm apps, speaking English to them is how you annoy them, but you wouldn't get it as the resident angry schizo who doesn't even have a passport
>>2913500I donât think thereâs a difference in language ability between men and women, but thereâs clearly a difference among gaijin men and women living in Japan. The women pick up Japanese easily; after just two years, they speak it as fluently as a native speaker and hang out with their Japanese friends. On the other hand, no matter how many years pass, the men still canât speak Japanese and spend their time at gaijin bars complaining about Japan to each other.
>>2913680>I donât think thereâs a difference in language ability between men and women, but thereâs clearly a difference among gaijin men and women living in Japan.>The women pick up Japanese easily; after just two years, they speak it as fluently as a native speaker and hang out with their Japanese friends.>On the other hand, no matter how many years pass, the men still canât speak Japanese and spend their time at gaijin bars complaining about Japan to each other.Nah I think on average women are way better at language. women are as evolved at social things as men are evolved physically. women spend all day yapping and notice all of the inane social details. they evolved to tell stories to the baby. let them have their moment. they still can't write for shit though.
>>2913680I donât know if itâs true that women usually are better at Japanese than expat men, but I think what goes on behind it is pretty complex. In the professional sphere:>men tend to dominate in technical fields (IT, engineering, etc.) that favors pure skill over language ability >other fields (i.e. ones with proportionally more women) such as pure administrative work or service/hospitality/looks-related jobs require full fluencyIn the personal sphere>women tend to want long-term partners more than men>you canât have a viable long-term relationship with a significant language barrier>Japanese women that like foreign men are fine as men just want sex with an oriental and men will rest on these laurels until marrying one >Japanese men that like foreign women tend to be only interested in sex>they also would not seriously consider a foreign girlfriend/wife for cultural reasons, as well as the language barrier and the fact that most foreigners eventually leave Japan >a woman who plans to stay in Japan (or other country) long-term realizes the value of, and is intrinsically motivated to, learn the language of their place of permanent residence both for available career paths and to have a long term partner A lot of these bitter expats who frequent the Hub are dudes who just shacked up with a Japanese women and got stuck in Japan, while having no ambition otherwise to improve their station.
>>2913680this is because women are more liberal and view themselves as immigrants who ought to assimilate ASAP while men are more conservative and view themselves as expats who ought to only assimilate after they've settledalso most women going to japan are in "creative fields" (and a LOT of them end up as hookers) while the men are mostly english teachers or working in IT or call centers(and a LOT of them end up hating Japan and wanting to get a waifu and bail).this also creates a lot of weird dissonance online where the men are often "japan glazers" who are in-actuality conservative radicals who engage in disruptive politics, whereas the women are "anti-japan" but want the current status-quo maintained because they benefit from being sexualized.
>>2913701>most women going to japan are in "creative fields" (and a LOT of them end up as hookers) Explain this nonsense further. What is a âcreative fieldâ? I challenge you to even come up with a JAV code where this happens >the men are mostly english teachers or working in IT or call centersAnother monumentally retarded take based on the very wrong assumption that most immigrants in Japan are Westerners>women are more liberal and view themselves as immigrants who ought to assimilate ASAP Even among immigrants in general, said women would not be liberal by nature, not being Westerners in the first place, and assimilation as an immigrant is the most natural thing on Earth when youâre moving to a far wealthier country that is better in every conceivable way.Pic related, from Japanâs Ministry of Health, Labor, and WelfareTop countries>Vietnam>China>PhilippinesWhich together make up only 1% of the entire countryâs population as it is, and are 60% of the total population of foreigners. Meanwhile, >education 3.2%>IT 3.8%Guess what, that leaves 93% other jobs (the others being manufacturing, retail, food service, etc etc)https://www.mhlw.go.jp/content/11655000/001646130.pdf
>>2913718>What is a âcreative fieldâ? I challenge you to even come up with a JAV code where this happensMostly they come as language school students and try and get into art or VA commissions on the side before they get scouted by con cafe's or more explicit establishments. I am talking mostly about western women here, since this is a western platform. Among Asian women it's mostly retail work -> housewife pipeline. >Another monumentally retarded take based on the very wrong assumption that most immigrants in Japan are WesternersMost of the Chinese are also in IT/call centers, other than that they're running businesses. In order, the other groups are Koreans, Vietnamese, Flips, and Nepalese who are all mostly engaging in low-skill or manual labor, not really even worth discussing as a demographic in this sort of context. >Guess what, that leaves 93% other jobs>lists off low-skill and manual labor positionslol, also those people aren't really immigrants, they're temp. laborers - since the japs like to play this "hehe we dont have an immigration policy" game, they fuck over the statistics and make it look like immigrants are mostly in low-skill positions. among immigrants, it's basically exactly as I described. Also these low-skill people only minimally assimilate by learning the language and most leave after 4-5 years. So yeah your whole view is insanely gay and reddit and the only people that really immigrate properly are Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Western.
