The “intricate puzzle to find something easily findable” retardation is used so much it’s a trope in and of itself at this point.
>>
>>198520463
This isn't even a case of the writers deliberately writing dumb shit in order to not confuse a dumb audience, it's a case of the writers themselves being dumb.
Because even if the puzzle actually leads to a thing that can't just be stumbled upon, a dumb audience wouldn't be confused at all.

>>
>>198520336
Why was this fucking movie three hours long?
>>
>>198521043
Honestly the pacing was pretty good, outside of a few dumbass dialogues that dragged on for no reason.
It's the actual content that's just so dumb.
>>
>>198521065
It started to drag when Selina's subplot was finished and then you realized there was an extra 45 minute long third act with the Riddler's bombs or whatever the fuck that was.
>>
Batman and Batman Returns are the only good Batman movies
>>
>>198521091
>It started to drag when Selina's subplot was finished
Ah yes, after Selina finds her friend's phone with a voice mail in which the bad guy unveils himself to be the bad guy lmao
>>
>Batman is an edgy teen who literally says "you're not my dad" to Alfred during their first scene together
>Penguin's big moment is a fucking car chase
>Batman is more a booted Frankenstein monster than a winged bat
>"white privilege" is called out
>people address Batman as "Vengeance" like that's his fucking name
>movie opens with an edgy voice over
>entire conversation revealing Falcone to be the rat just happens to be recorded on voice mail
>>
>>198520336
people are literally disqualified from becoming police if they score too highly on the aptitude test. they're not sending their best so that part's pretty realistic
>>
>>198521364
Yeah but a big ass knife sticking out of a murdered guy's car is a prime opportunity for a "you better come look at this" moment.
Police in tv and film have monthly quotas on moments like that, they would've never let that opportunity slide.

At this point, a sociopath with a plan to blow up the entire city is a requirement for Batman flicks.
There's no extortion, kidnapping, bank robbery or good old boners in them anymore. It's all "SOCIETY, WAH WAH WAH IMMA BLOW IT ALL UP!!!"

WB has no creativity, it seems they are working on a THIRD "Luthor builds a Kryptonian monster to kill Superman" flick.
>>
>>198520336
Weren't the puzzles supposed to be an homage to the original TV series? That's what I assumed. I didn't think they were supposed to be taken seriously.
>>
>>198521436
>I didn't think they were supposed to be taken seriously.
The movie's tone disagrees lol
But you're right, it was so dumb it became funny. The movie is so tryhard and edgy it reminded me of those unironic sigma male explainers.
>>
>>198521436
The Batman is a lot of things, including a terrible, overlong, derivative piece of shit, but it's in no way a homage to the Adam We show.
If anything it's the anithesis of it.
>>

Harvey's not kidnapping anyone, he just takes them to a remote spot to murder them. A kidnapping plot sorta implies you are trying to get something in exchange, not just dragging someone out into the woods to shoot them.

And the Joker's "bank robbery" just turns into plain ol' arson, he just wants to arson in front of the owners for the lulz.
SOME Batman villains used to be in it for money or power, now it's just a long stream of Social (in)Justice and it's tiresome.
>>

It was alright when Nolan did it because it was a fresh take at the time. But now that shit is everywhere. It's like how in the Ghostbusters remake, all the women tried to play Bill Murray.

>>
>>198521714
It's just an overly dramatic attempted murder, because simply shooting them like he did everyone else leaves no time for Batman's dramatic ENTER. (and killing of Harvey)

The only villain trying to do actual crime-for-money is Penguin, and he's never shown doing actual crime, it's just implied.

I get what you mean about the overall tone, but every now and then they'd toss in a campy moment. Moments like the bomb going off in Batman's face, or when he crashes into the bus, or the looong build up when we think the Riddler might know Batman's real identity. Take those and slap them into the Adam West era and they'd fit right in. That's what got me thinking they might have been a deliberate tip of the hat.
>>
>>198520336
i liked the part where gordon sticks a shady usb drive left by the killer into his internet connected laptop
>>
>>198520336
this is the best movie to come out in the last decade btw and you're retarded if you think otherwise
>>
>>198520336
It’s because the riddler has the mindset Batman was like him. Not a hero but someone wanting to destroy society. That’s the only reason Batman didn’t get the hints because he wasn’t thinking like a killer with a vendetta
>>
>>198521789
Sometimes dumb writing is just dumb writing, and not a homage to olde camp.
>>
>>198521791
kek

Gordon and Vengeance are also solving shit on that laptop right in view of the Penguin.
I laughed out loud when the shot widened and Penguin is just looking at the screen with them.
>>
>>198521794
Just like the movie itself, this comment is so dumb it makes me think it's satire.
>>
>>198521800
Batman is going around punching gangs and solving crimes, what could possibly make someone think he was "trying to destroy society".
Why the fuck is every Batman villain obsessed with Society like a 15 yr old Edgelord???
>>
>>198521579
There's an envelope addressed to the Batman in that letter bomb, and the note in that envelope says "see you in hell".
There's no way Bruce did NOT think Riddler knew he was batman.
>>
>>198521829
Batman works in the shadows and was taken down organized crime that affects the people of Gotham. He also wasn’t fully known to be real or not he was somewhat like a myth or legend a boogeyman
>>
>>198521538
>A kidnapping plot sorta implies
Well that's sorta retarded. It's not a plot, just an act. Nobody said he had a ransom scheme in mind, he took someone someplace against their will. That's kidnapping.
>>
>>198521911
>Batman works in the shadows
Anon, he IS the vengean... I mean shadows.
>>
The really disgusting part for me was how it was ripping off Se7en so hard in the Riddler's apartment.
>>
This movie wasn't good but I'd still like to see a sequel because there were enough good pieces in play.
>>
>>198520336
I actually like this film for the grimy aesthetic but it's written for a complete retard, or perhaps the ultimate midwit
>finds incriminating photographs taken outside club
>think "batman will definitely investigate this vantage point for clues"
>doesn't
>turns out the killer was literally sitting there for the entire film
>>
>>198522730
All of the riddles are like that though.
>El Rata Elada
>A flying rat?
>What could that mean
>Batman scratches his bat-chin on his bat-suit
>What kind of rodent flies?
>Must be the guy named after a flightless bird, the penguin
>Chases down the penguin, killing about 50 innocent drivers in the chase
>Even the Penguin calls Batman a retard
>The answer was Falcon
Pure cinema.
>>
>>198523038
The "bring him into the light" thing too.
Apparently riddler knew that Falcone was going to be escorted out of the club through the front door, and that it was going to be Batman who was holding him.
>>
>>198523038
Wouldn't most people start with pigeon?
>>
>>198520336
Eye Man.
>>
>>198523186
I would be inclined to if I wasn't a guy dressed as a flying rodent who was directly mentioned by the person leaving behind clues specifically for me.
>>
>>198520336
You forgot:

>Batman, the “world’s greatest detective”, does not recognise the murder weapon at the first crime scene, does not consider investigating this any further, and it only becomes relevant to the plot again once it’s too late purely so a blue-collar cop can put the rich white boy in his place for not knowing what a carpet tucker is

Awful writing on multiple levels. It’s a setting where smartphones are shown to exist, anyone with an iota of curiosity at any point in the film could have looked up what the object was from anywhere, but that doesn’t happen so the film can drag on for an extra hour and the smoothbrained writers can have their epic gotcha about rich people being divorced from the working class. It feels like this film was made by someone who actually hates Batman as a character and just wanted the funding to do a terrible David Fincher impersonation.
>>
>>198523221
Who actually thinks of bats and rats in the same category though? A bat isn't a rodent.
>>
>>198523380
>"it's a tucker"
>Hmmm tucker, Tucker Carlson, bow tie, bow sounds like boat, boats like water, ...
>Oh my god, he's going to flood the city!
>>
>>198521800
I absolutely hated this film’s take on Riddler. Just further evidence Matt Reeves desperately wishes he was Fincher and a sterling display of the gulf between them in terms of writing and directorial talent. If you wanted an edgy killer in a creepy mask with a personal connection to Bruce Wayne, just use Hush.
>>
>>198521603
>And the Joker's "bank robbery" just turns into plain ol' arson, he just wants to arson in front of the owners for the lulz.
That wasn't from the bank robbery retard. That's Lau's hidden money. Joker uses the bank robbery money to buy himself a fancy suit and other shit.
>>198521937
You're expecting common sense from comicbookfags.
>>
>>198522018
The entire thing is desperately trying and failing to be a Fincher film. The cinematography, lighting, colour grading, story structure, everything. It just fails at it on every level because Matt Reeves is no David Fincher.

MI6-trained Alfred opening the suspicious-looking letter bomb is the stupidest motherfucking shit in the world. And the black mayor lady was shot at point blank range with a sniper rifle but just doesn't die for some reason, not because Batman saved her. So other than that, Riddler killed all his victims, accomplished all his goals, and purposely allowed himself to be arrested, so Batman literally didn't do anything. lol.
>>
>>198525192
>so Batman literally didn't do anything
kek exactly.
Batman got everything wrong or at the very least was too late at every turn.

Which would be a neat idea for his early years as Batman, but it's played off like he saved the day somehow.
>>
>>198525398
He's a rich, white-privileged asshole [sic]. What did you expect?
>>
>>198525557
The only two characters outside of catwoman who weren't obviously corrupt or inept were the young black mayoral candidate, and the black doctor lady tending to Alfred.
All we needed was a righteous black woman judge and an ace black woman pilot. Maybe in the sequel.

>>198528037
Can anybody come with an explanation for why he thought batman would suddenly drop the goodguy act and willingly join him in prison/asylum?

>>
>>198528032
And it felt like it really lowered the stakes when batman starts fighting all the riddler impersonators by letting them all shoot him at pointblank range.
>>
>>198528037
Riddler thought he and Batman had the same vision and goals; that's what >>198521738
is referencing;
He hated Bruce Wayne so much, while idolizing his idea of Batman that the possibility of them being the same person never crossed his mind.
While in Arkham, he could safely watch, along with his bestie Bats, the flooding of Gotham.
>>
>>198520336
How can you miss the subtly and nuance of him saying "I think I'm his next target."? He's talking as Bruce, not Batman. He's realizing The Riddler is after Bruce Wayne.

Directors are too stupid to write their own movies. Look at the nosedive Nolan/Snyder/Villeneuve movies have taken after they've started directing their own movies. The same applies to whatshisface that did The Boreman.
>>
>>198528360
Failed to solve any riddle in time, failed to think that maybe the high up DA he just uncovered in the mafia club could possibly be the next target when it was so painfully obvious, failed to catch the riddler in time until he just gave up.
>>
>>198528360
What is so dumb about the El Rata Alada thing? Bruce knew it was referencing the rat in the Sal Maroni case, so he assumed it was Penguin. He and Alfred even noticed the bad spanish. Only later he noticed it was meant to be URL
>>
>>198528504
I don't know, how about the part where the world's greatest detective couldn't realize that someone as meticulous as Riddler wouldn't fuck up a simple translation? That part where he had to be helped by a random cop because his cop was a carpenter didn't help either.

>>
>>198528504
>>198528567
Really it's bad because it has multiple solutions that all make sense, bat, falcon, penguin all could be the one that riddler intended and all makes sense at different times in the script.
It makes it feel pointless like oh hey he's the riddler we gotta riddle something.
>>
>>198528617
I heard this in Europe too. The rationale being that people who are too smart would end up leaving the force or promoting or some shit.

>>
>>198529828

Are you trying to be funny or something?

The riddle was "bring him into the light and you'll find where I'm at".
Riddler knew his vantage point would be obvious when shooting Falcone at that exact location: under the streetlamp.
That's how and when he wanted to be caught.
>>
>>198529912
Yes, that doesn't really contradict anything I said.
That's what we call a double meaning.
>>
>>198530008
The point is "bring him into the light" wasn't (only) a metaphor, it literally referred to the street light.
>>
>>198528360
What gave me a head scratch is that the Riddler said that he considered himself to be the brains of the operation, and that Batman could be him brawnl.

BUT...

Throughout the entire movie the Riddler is going out alone kidnapping and killing all the corrupt politicians and city officials using his... wait for it... his brawls. He isn't even using his followers or anything. He is going alone directly overpowering everyone.
>>
>>198528262
He figured it out as the interrogation went on. He started singing the song. It's more less about kind of a journey. The name is a latinized version of Bruce's mom's name. More less a flood happens, guy goes to a lake and a lady offers him power but with a sacrifice. He's singing Bruce's/batman's story saying I figured out who you are cryptically. Rewatch the scene then look up the song setting and story. He knows Bruce is Batman and Martha,/maria are his mom
