In the 2000s a lot of comedy was about deliberately trying to be offensive and the joke being how offensive what someone was saying was. There was a lot of racial humor (racial, not racist) and a lot of stuff slid by that would not fly today. This ended because of:1. The SJW movement started in earnest in 2012 or so. Racial issues became dead serious life and death again and it became unacceptable to make light of any of it anymore.2. Social media and twitter particularly exploded around the same time and gave a bunch of nobodies a platform to organize and focus their outrage in ways that were effective at ruining careers and cancelling people over fairly benign shit. As a result everyone in the industry has been terrified of upsetting anyone for years which completely neuters all comedy, basically.The main takeaway is that this is a fad just like the raunchy offensive humor of the early 00's and it will pass. Comedy just needs someone to really push the envelope, become successful pushing back against this shit and ignore the twitter mob that comes after them.
