Its not, the only good part is the stopmotion part, that is like only 15 minutes of the whole film.

Is King Kong even a horror film?
>>
>>198565011
The original is. You have to remember horror at the time was stuff like Frankenstein and Dracula. It was all about monsters, and King Kong probably holds up better as being "scary" than a lot of its contemporaries.
>>
>>198565011
there's some pretty disturbing moments for the time

The issue with capeshit isn't that it's "mindless", it's that it's soulless. Tbh modern capeshit movies aren't even mindless fun because they're not even entertaining, they're irritating.

I've been catching up on 2020s horror and a noticed a weird trend, especially in american works.
It's a given that most actor kids have a "tiktok face" these days, but they're also unable to sweat, look dirty or have a disheveled look even after a long pursuit.
Just some blood sprinkles, a small cut here and there and they're done.

Not baiting. I don't know a single genuinely scary movie from the 90s or 80s. At least the 70s had TCM which i guess is an exception, but even The Exorcist is more funny than scary at this point.

I can't see how it's not bait if you're accusing the 90s of having "bad cameras." The 90s and the 2000s were the last decades with good cameras before Hollywood switched to digital and everything started looking cheap.
Some "scary" movies from the 80s

But your phone is digital and a lot of shitty modern flicks do look like they were shot on iPhones. 80s movies never have that problem because they were shot on film, like almost every movie was until the early/mid 2010s.
The "clean digital" look is what makes shit recorded on phones look so bad. Modern movies that look good apply filters in order to mask the digital look.

I have zero idea how cameras/cinematography work in general, so I won't pretend to. I will say though, watching something like Eden Lake, while it's a fine movie, how 'clean' everything looks takes me out of it. Always reminds me that I'm watching something that was produced instead of allowing me to be immersed. Probably mostly a Me issue, though.

Trying shooting raw unedited footage on your phone or a digital camera and see how good it looks. Do you think it's going to look like a Hollywood movie?
If you shot it with an actual film camera it would naturally look more like what you expect a movie to look like.
>they'd look bad like 80s movies
>like imagine being scared by this
Not sure why you think "old cameras" is the reason a comedic scene of Jason interacting with some thugs isn't scary. Do you think they wanted you to piss your pants at that?
I think you just need to get out of your "old movies = bad" mentality.
