Until you reach this level you can't call yourself a cinephile.
>>198577509It's just like Terrence Malick loving Zoolander.
>>198577509He had autismhttps://www.ianwatson.info/plumbing-stanley-kubrick/
wow what a hater
>>198577509How the fuck can one man be so Kino?
>>198577509stupid
>>198577568Well, yeah, who doesn't love Zoolander? It's a certified classic. Now it's sequel on the other hand...
>>198577509I mean, I don't agree. But I get it. Wizard of Oz was over-produced and lacked authenticity. It insisted upon itself. But White Men Can't Jump was sincere and authentic. It was raw and real, and yet funny and absurd at the same time.Personally, I'll take Wizard of Oz, any day.
>>198577509Isn't there behind the scenes footage of the making of EWS? That would be cool to see, there was for Shining and it was interesting seeing Kubrick at work
>>198577509I get it,Oz is a one trick pony, white men can't jump is a psychological battle of two races, great film.
>>198577509>Among his top titles: the 60s Italian drama La Notte, David Lynch’s surrealist horror film Eraserhead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Michael Moore’s documentary Roger & Me, along with such classics as Citizen Kane,The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,The Godfather, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Dog Day Afternoon. >Perhaps the most surprising titles to make the list, however, are Albert Brooks’s 1981 comedy Modern Romance, The Jerk, and White Men Can’t Jump.
>>198578343i'm gonna commit a cinematic sin here, but I have no idea why the sequel is SO hatedit's the same type of humor as the first film, like there's no differencemaybe i'm insane or somethingboth films I thought were the same quality, very hit-or-miss, for every hilarious joke there's another one that's forced or goes for a bit too long
>>198578549The Jerk is definitely kino
>>198578549eraserhead is the worst movie listed there
>>198577509>he believes in newspaper articles
>>198578569because the sequel has absolutely zero substance, everyone looks old as shit, and the jokes aren't as goodthe first zoolander has not one but SEVERAL iconic moments>gas station fight>derek working in the mines>walk off>school for ants>mugatu brainwshing>mulder playing some conspiracy schizoquite frankly, almost every scene in it is a fucking masterpiececan you name a single as good scene from 2? i'll wait
>>198577509Didn't Hitchcock say his favorite movie was Smokey and the Bandit?
Does anyone really watch wizard of oz besides one time on acid while listening to floyd?
>>198578549Why is this only mentioning his most well known picks? Aren't the classic and arthouse films bigger influences on his career?
>>198579654My first thought seeing this thread was "that's fake as fuck". I'm so tired of this site, bro.
white men cant jump is a great sports movie, good hood movie, solid gambling movie, and decent tragic romance, i was surprised based on the title, great movie for all their careers
>>198577509I find most musical numbers frustrating so I agree.
>>198577509I'd like to hear the actual quotes, if I may
>>198577509>How do you stop five black guys raping a white chick? Throw 'em a basketball.
>>198580409youre a fucking idiot its widely known that Hitchcock spoke highly of white men cant jump at the very least and its not some insane take to not love wizard of oz, its a kids movie after all
>>198577509>White Men Can't JumpI don't understand the point of this movie. The main character just loses all of his money and his gf and he's like whatever and then it's over
>>198580751he gains a friend and takes a chance at being the greatest, its about addiction and the relationship is obviously supposed to be a realistic one that people give up, the crazy part is getting his gf on the tv game show
>>198579778It's considered a childhood classic. Part of why it's so beloved is because it's perennially popular and family friendly, so people often see it for the first time as young children. Being from the 30s, it was made with that air of grand spectacle that characterized old Hollywood, so it sticks in people's memories more. It's definitely a classic for a reason: it has that wish fulfillment of someone with a shitty life going on a magical adventure, the characters are memorable and you relate to them, the songs are catchy and fun, and the visuals - both the set pieces and the elaborate choreography - are eye-catching and wondrous. Judy Garland has an air of true earnestness and innocence that you don't see anymore in our more cynical age. I don't even know if it's a good film or not because I'm too influenced by my childhood memories and its cultural capital.
>>198578549>>198579654>>198580409>>198580490>>198577509This is fake btw. His daughter Vivian said that he had watched White Men Can't Jump and liked it, not that it was one of his favorite movies. This is just a blatant lie.
