Horror movies are so fucking bad, I want to like them but :(
>help me fit inwhen are these vaxxed zoomers going to start dying en masse?
>>198600469Classic horror is great, you shouldn't be judging the genre off of shit from the 2020s. The pic shows that you enjoyed Shutter and Scream.I would recommend classic films like>the texas chain saw massacre>alien>a nightmare on elm street (same director as scream)>the exorcist>candyman>the silence of the lambs>black christmas>the thing>return of the living dead
>>198600507>he didn't take the vaccinelmao>>198600604Thank you for taking the time, I appreciate it. I tried Alien and didn't like it too much, the death scenes didn't offer enough payoff in my opinion. I really really like the thing though. I'll try the others!
>>198600469No such thing as a bad movie.Just filtered people.
>Life rated higher than American Psycho, Annihilation and Under The Skin
>>198600859>>198600469Sounds like you are just watching for the surface level and not really thinking about what the movies are trying to accomplish
I actually liked as above so below, am i a retard?
>>198600469>The Visit has a higher rating than American Psychogrim
>>198600933no, OP is a retarded faggot as usual
>>198600469>rating dogshit like Life 3,5kys
>>198600859You're welcome, hope you like some of them.I would also recommend Final Destination if you enjoyed Scream, it has a similar feel.
>>198600896lol>>198600923under the skin might the most boring movie ever made though alongside 2001 a space odyssey>>198600933that's fine, different tastes and all>>198600972american psycho felt like a parody honestly>>198601017the ending was kino ngl>>198601043the scream was good but didn't feel like an horror movie for the most part for me, some parts were pretty funny
>>198601088i hope youre young because if youre old and this retarded its hopeless for you
>>198600469>doesn't like screamYou're irredeemable
>>198601283ok boomer>>198601299huh? 4 stars out of 5 means I liked it, this is how it works for most people.
>>198600469Good/Fun horror movies from the top of my head:>Ready or Not>It Follows>The Thing>The Shining>Audition>Talk To Me>Barbarian>Evil Dead 2>The Blob>Overlord>The Witch
>>198601319Oh I missed the stars. I interpreted this as your bad movie list. Ok, you're redeemable.
>>198601336barbarian and audition i didn't likethe witch i have to rewatch the thnig and it follows are goodthanks, i'll check the others
>>198601479I mean, Ready or Not is kind of a comedy, and Overlord is basically an action movie, but as for pure horror... I mean some of the ones I listed there are considered all time greats. The Blob & Talk To Me aren't as renowned as the rest I think, but I thought they were both really great.Another all-time great is Misery
>>198601512Okay!Have you seen these:>smile>a dark song>broadcast signal intrusion
>>198601568No, but I've heard Smile is like... okay enough? A few other ones that I'm remembering:>Green Room (maybe more of a thriller but is kinda horrifying, and I really like it)>The Sixth Sense>The MistThere, you should be set for a while now my dude
>>198600469I’m going to keep recommending Malignant and none of you can stop me
>>198601679green room and the mist are fun if i remember correctly, cool recs.>>198601730thanks, i'll add it to the list
>>198601730When I realized the twist I fucking laughed out loud. I had no idea, I'd just heard it was a good horror movie. No fucking way that movie isn't a joke. James Wan is a talented bastard, he knows what he's doing, he HAS to know how fucking stupid it isJust to be clear: I was entertained
>>198600469I only watch them (and really enjoy them) in September and October.
>>198601754Oh yeah the whole movie is taking the piss while still managing to take itself seriously. You know exactly what you’re getting within the first 5 minutes with the hospital craziness and the line delivery from the doctor being as hammy as possible
>>198600469I feel this way about westerns
>>198600469You have to filter through so much trash to find something decent, but sometimes you find something great. My personal favorite is the Witch, but I’m also partial to period pieces so it scratches that for me too. The old classics are classic for a reason- Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Cabin Fever are actually quite tense even my modern standards. It Follows and Smile are also great but favorites altogether really depends on specific preferences and what hits right for you. Body horror usually does nothing for me but one specific scene in Contracted sticks with me to this day, I kind of wish I hadn’t watched it desu lmao. Of your pic- empty man and as above so below are trash, annihilation is ok but weird, I enjoyed the visit and under the skin, been meaning to watch life and the last two aren’t real horror movies. The rest I either haven’t seen or forgot about because they’re also trash.
>>198602360>>198600604Oh fuck me sideways I forgot about The Thing. That’s above the Witch for sure. Invasion of the Body Snatchers as a plot only got me so far, but that alert scream at the end puts my hair on end so I rewatch from time to time.
>>198601336>Ready or Not Fun campy horror movie. Same with The Babysitter. Samara Weaving seems to be typecast but I’m not mad about it. I think these quippy self aware horror movies have their place but should be sparing, imagine if all future horror movies were that millennial writing…
>>198602360Thanks, we have similar tastes I think. I'll watch them. I think I'll watch smile rn
>>198600469Repeating numbers
>>198600469why would you try and force yourself to like something you don't like? what kind of insanity is that?
>>198601730>>198601754Hahaha this one was fantastic. Plz no one spoil for anons it’s really worth the watch
>>198600469the empty man was pretty kino at least. but yeah don't watch any horror movies in the last 20 years. homework for OP:>basket case>basket case 2>basket case 3>the beast within>zombie '79>the beyond 1981>suspiria '77 (stay away from remake)>it's alive (entire trilogy)>rabid>the howling>friday the 13th 1-4you're welcome OP
>>198602505Enjoy. Yeah looking at it and your responses I see we have similar preferences. I understand why you didn’t like Under the Skin, it’s a slow and strange movie. But that scene at the beach had me thinking about the movie for days, I’d say that’s a successful movie for me.
>>198602666>RabidThe new one? Been meaning to watch it, I like “zombie with a twist” movies
>>198600469Yes, it's the biggest brainlet genre.>omg is that a ghost? IT'S LE SCARY
that's why i never watch them. i've seen a few as a kid/teen like saw. but i don't value any aspect of them. they are pointless and only serve to make me more anxious than i already am.
>>198602713no way dummy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr4ZLdhoQRYdavid cronenberg's rabid starring prime marilyn chambers, a whore who gets an STD that makes her grow a butthole in her armpit with a flesh eating dick that comes out of it
>>198602768You're not going to get anxious watching them as an adult.
>>198601336>>198601679>>198601512I've got a few more for you niggas:>The InvitationThe exact type of like idiotically slow burn tension shit I enjoy>The FlyOne of the all time greats>The WailingIf you're a normie dipshit looking for "boo! monsters!", you'll hate it. But it's a good movie, and a horror movie
>>198602783Didn’t realize it was a remake. I’ll watch the original first, thanks
>>198600469Why do you feel compelled to want to like this particular genre so much? What do you want from it?
>>198602666thank you, never heard of most of them, sounds like they are kino>>198602693oh yeah, the beach scene was pretty cool and sad.
>>198602885>>198602581I'm a pussy and the thought of watching them gives me this thrill, this light anxiety, and I like that. But most of them are boring when you actually watch.
>>198600469>You will immediately cease and not continue to access the site if you are under the age of 18.
>>198602911Have you tried horror games instead?
>>198602934Yeah, love SH, RE, etc. But after a certain point some of them get too uncomfortable to play.
>>198602847you're welcome, also add these to the pile>scanners (should have put this at the top of first list)>castle freak>the flywhatever you watch, don't skip beast within or the basket case movies. beast within is about a nice couple who gets married in the south and the wife gets raped by a beast and left for dead but survives and has a rape baby who picked up the beast genes and morphs into a rape monster himself. has the scariest and most grotesque transform sequence in all of cinema look at this shit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdD2JN10zpY
>>198600469Some of those are pretty good.
>>198600469Almost every single one of these is shit, how did you even end up watching these particular films as your entry to the genre? Even a generic 'IMDB top' list would be way better
>>198603008>>198603015The duality of men.
>>198603022more like one woman one man. i'm with the man >>198603015
I want to eventually direct a movie and I want to make my first movie a horror movie because I don't like the horror movies i've seen so far but can someone tell me if my idea is actually rare or if there are actually a lot of horror movies like this already:basically my idea is that horror is about the incomprehensive and the problem with the horror movies I see is that they feature a lot of common tropes like wide open mouth, fleshy monsters, ghosts, slashes villains, jump scares... if it's familiar it's less scary. if it has an animal or human form and obeys the laws of physics it becomes predictable.so I would make a horror movie where the "monster" is abstract or invisible. The xfiles has an episode where an invisible elephant causes havoc or where everyone who steps into the shadow of a guy disappears. Stuff like that.
>>198603192that's a dumb idea that you should never try. horror is only good when you see something outlandish that you can't take your eyes off of. "use your imagination" horror never pans out the way you want it to
>>198603253I’d counter with It Follows and Final Destination (if you consider it horror)
>>198603253>"use your imagination" horror never pans out the way you want it toI actually think your imagination is the most powerful tool for creating horror. That's how we get scared by blurry photographs.
>>198603299i hate both of those movies>>198603343an imagination is good for creating a cool horror movie, but that movie had better not require imagination to enjoy it
>>19860337CheckedWell that’s what I mean by it’s all subjective. I think anon’s movie sounds interesting. What’s your favorite horror movie?
>>198600507>Retarded schizos are still doing the "two more weeks" bit four fucking years later
>>198601088>american psycho felt like a parody honestlyIt's a satire of 80s yuppie culture.
>>198603602i think his point is that it's not horror and doesn't belong in the horror aisle
>>198603343I was so scared by this photograph that I hid the space book that it was in until I was out of highschool.
>>198600469You picked A LOT of bad horror films here. See No Evil is fucking horrible and I was angry after watching it. American Psycho is barely even a horror film in my mind. It’s so ridiculous. Pretty much everything on the left side of your list going to the right is garbageWatch >Ravenous>You’re Next
>>198603794Thank you. You're next is the one wehre the protagonist fights back right? I like this trope.
>>198603794>RavenousBASED
>>198600469Yeah it's a shame the genre so so mired in juvenile horse shit that it's just part of the makeup. Thrillers are basically horror for grown ups but we don't get many these days.>>198600604>black christmasbased
>>198602843You seem like you'd enjoy Coherence. It might not strictly be horror, but I think it scratches a similar itch. One of the most underrated movies of the 2010s.
OP, give The Strangers a try. It's a home invasion horror movie, has Liv Tyler in it.
