>>198608592Oh man, I just rewatched this yesterday for the first time since theaters. Transformers 2007. I had completely forgotten about him and that whole plotline, which to be fair had no place in the movie. The entire plot at the end didn't make any sense to me. The Autobots acquired the All-Spark, they reunited on the road, the Decepticons are coming for it, and... they want to take the battle INTO a major city for mass civilian causalities instead of away from it? They want to call in a helicopter into a maze-like city to pick up the All-Spark and take it away from the Autobots despite just seeing two plane-transforming Decepticons that would shred any human aircraft? At jet speeds vs their helicopter? I don't understand why they didn't hand it off to Optimus Prime when he joined with them on the road. If Optimus' only plan for the All-Spark was suiciding with it, then I think the first plan was to kill Megatron instead, so that would mean uniting with US military for their last stand, so why did they go into a city away from the bases with the plan to evac the cube rather than Optimus hold onto it in case the first plan failed? He stated the backup plan like 20m before the city scene so it's not like it was last minute.

Their actions then belie this by, rather than hiding, they seize an open square, start broadcasting over shortwave radio that they have the cube and want it extracted, and then drop green smoke to be visible the moment they see a fighter jet (not the extraction blackhawks). It just felt like a very lazy way to move the fight into a cityscape for the cool SFX (which Bay is great at).

On top of that, the captain has a long monologue, but it keeps getting cut with different people commentating before cutting back to the captain who continues as if nothing had interrupted him, using words that don't suit the context of those around him. It feels like a cutting room mess. Add on my impression of Bee, I thought the goal was to delay until Optimus can get to them. But right outside, they unite with Optimus, who says nothing and has no plan. The whole sequence just felt weird.Not to mention, leading up to that they had just armed themselves with Saber rounds that can hurt transformers. Megatron is still frozen and defenceless, but will be thawed over time. Why didn't they bother to just unload Saber rounds on the frozen body while the hand coolers were still working? They could even send the cube out while the military did the pew pew.
