Post failed attempts to kickstart a film series.

There are so many YA adaptations that actually got multiple installments but still petered out and died before making it to the end of the series that it looks like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Twilight are the only franchises that actually MANAGED to reach the end of their books

I don’t know how best to describe it, but it feels like almost every YA adaption had a checklist of shit they had to include and the rest of the movie was just finding an excuse to link between them.
This is obviously not counting the ones that were very obviously a completely different script that was crudely welded to whatever IP the execs happened to find in the drawer

My favorite since first reading it. The settings are great, the adventure is exciting and it connects to The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Yet it's never made. I haven't read it in a while, but it really is pretty dark for a childrens book.

Imagine being Susan, hearing everyone you knew and cared about died in a train accident. You now have to identify their bodies and you have to arrange all their funerals and live on without them. On top of that, it was all because of a delusion they wanted you to join them on and if you did you would have died. And if you had just convinced them it was all the games of children, they'd still be a live too.

Also, Aslan
>Fuck Susan.

In retrospect the magic in eragon was supremely lame.
It was awesome when it was bigdick spellcasters nuking 100 000 infbros in 5 seconds, but magic should shine the most when it's a wizard duel. Instead they have a literal staring contest, wtf was he thinking?
The best chapters are the Roran chapters btw at least besides the ones where he's hilariously OP for no reason, best mage character was the guy in his squad who was super low tier compared to the big shots but still incredibly valuable to this group of foot mooks. I have a soft spot for shitty support mages.

Surprisingly, a sequel is still possible (keep in mind that James Cameron tried to do this since 2000)
(How many references are there to Alita in Dark Angel? Manga Alita also had those big octopus lips.)
As a big fan of the original manga (and Last Order), I thought Rodriguez film was kinda weird and messed up way to much the lore and normalized the world (which should be more post-apocaliptic). Showing Desty Nova so soon and without glasses felt like an heresy. Yet I still enjoyed it and would rewatch it and its potential sequel(s). It was smart to have a digital protagonist: Rosa Salazar can hit the wall but her character will remain young forever.
I also keep reading shill articles about Alita being the best live-action adaption of a manga... which sadly could be true.

They made a BBC series and it was okay. Had some good moments here and there. Second season felt like filler, they cut out a lot of the good scenes from the book. Oh and they made certain characters randomly black which made some of you retards mad I'm sure.
Still slightly neutered compared to the books but not as badly as the movie.

No, that was just a marketing gimmick they used to sell his books. I can't believe how often I read about how a kid wrote these books and they were so good he instantly got them published, then it turned out that he wasn't a kid when he wrote them and his parents were in the publishing business.

It's like how they kept saying that Rowling was a poor single mum sitting in a cafe with her kid because she was one step from homeless began writing HP on napkins because she couldn't afford paper. Then it turned out she wasn't actually forced to live where she did, she chose to have her own apartment instead of living with her sister, her apartment wasn't that small, she held off getting jobs because she was afraid that she wouldn't finish her book if she got one, she sat in that cafe because it was owned by her family and she got free coffees there and most of the damn book was already written.

Oh yeah that reminds me, they tried to make The Terror into a franchise. They might have been successful too, if they hadn't gone full retard and abandoned the Boats perspective. They should have made season 2 be about Anson's Voyage, with all the scurvy, starvation, mutiny and trekking through the jungles of South America while starving. It would be easy to insert some kind of curse into the real life events, or just have the supernatural angle come up once they get to South America.

The main problem is trying to adapt the action. The books make it clear that, outside very close matches, vampire combat ends in about five passes at most. The Murlough fight adaption is particularly funny, because the book makes it clear that, unlike an action movie, they didn’t stand around bantering before getting into an epic fight; Mr Crepsley just ambushes and kills him while he’s too stunned to fight back
