A completely and utterly forgotten film, Suriyothai (2001) depicts the 16th century ruined Kingdom of Ayutthaya, which later became Siam. During this period, there were 2 city states that encompassed Siam (Ayutthaya and Pitsanulok). This film takes place over a score of years where the Kingdom saw many invasions from the neighboring Honsawadee (Ancient Burma), lots of political drama, Kings dying, child kings being executed, poisonings, cousins marrying each other, all out war, espionage, etc.Featuring full scale 'lived in' outdoor sets (which still exist in Thailand today in abandoned form), temples, throne rooms, palaces, and massive scenes with thousands of extras on camera in a scale not seen since Lawrence of Arabia, this film shits on any historical film made by Hollywood. The film notably features the ancient 'royal language' of Thailand, so its hard even for Thai people to understand. It was supported by the Thai royal crown, and directed by one of their princes who went to film school with Francis Ford Coppola, so the actual budget of the film is still unknown to this day.The link below features both the Thai edition (5 hours long), and Francis Ford Coppola's edit. Watch the Coppola edit if you prefer something faster paced. Watch the 5 hour edit for an increased number of characters, longer royal rituals, less narration and exposition, a brighter color grade and more kino.If you like the film, spread it around so it can finally be brought to 4k as it deserves. If you watch it for anything, watch it so you can appreciate a dead, exotically beautiful and nearly forgotten culture (even by its own country).>Gladiator>Kingdom of Heavenlol lmao. This film shits all over them, giving out straight history with no B.S.Subtitles on the 5 hour version are a little botched. https://gofile.io/d/XHiNJO
Only faggots and trannies care about history. Fuck off back to plebbit.
>>214515960Oh NOW you admit to shilling/spammingLol I'm still on your side champ. Keep advocating for that upscale rerelease
3 hour historical epic? I'm in.
>>214516244kek thanks anon. /tv/ is prob the wrong place to do it but i dont go anywhere else. doing the math i've gotten 300 people to download it in the last 1 month. that's probably more than its been seen in 20 years.>>2145162665 hours for the long version.!
>6.4 IMDB>51% Rotten Tomatoes >3.2 LetterboxdNot watching
>>214516475Damn OP is this for real? I thought this was some revered work of art?
>>214516475That's for the Francis Ford Coppola version, which I agree, cuts way too much and things happen too fast.>rotten tomatoesyou cant be serious kys.>>214516503troll poster citing rotten tomatoes kek.
>>214516475>LE CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGONkys tranny
>>214516573>bro this 3 hour slog gets good when stretched out to 5 hours!Mhmm still not watching
>>214516638Regardless, the rotten tomatoes reviews are from 2003, when western media were completely fucking retarded and allergic to anything that wasn't hollywood. The IMDB reviews are too few to even count, and letterboxed is tranny shit. And since you're anime-avatarfagging I guess there's my answer. I can't hold a gun to your head and make you watch a good film anon, keep slurping your slop korean/japanese trannyseries though.
>>214516638how many hours of terrible japanese cartoons have you watched. probably thousands
>>214516716This, and Francis Ford Coppola, while he meant well, didn't exactly improve the film to a higher degree by cutting two hours, entire plotlines and characters, and removing half the palace rituals. He did mean well though, source:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_Lh5nHlqc0
and it goes without saying that FFC completely butchered the look of them film with his half-assed hollywood color grade.
>>214515960I've seen this one before a long time ago and it's not bad at all. Never watched the 5 hour version, just the shorter version. Didn't know it was edited by Coppola.
>>214516849Ideally, the only true improvements that Coppola made upon the film were adding subtitle introductions for certain character names, locations. He added way too much voice exposition I think, but I understand that he tried to market the film to a Western audience, which honestly was an impossible task given the subject matter. Americans and Europe aren't necessarily interested in that type of thing anyway. They want fake melodrama IE. Gladiator, Dances with Wolves.
>>214516886Imagine comparing fucking GLADIATOR to this thirdie slop
>>214517034Gladiator has only one good scene in the entire film, the intro that lasts about 10 minutes. That was great filmmaking. The rest of the film is traditional Hollywood melodramatic slop with zero relation to history or the period its set in. I got nothing from watching it. Even the armor and swords are historically inaccurate.
>is the best period piece in your path
>>214517189Caligula is kino actually. The original non porn cut is the best so far.
>>214515960Alalalala miss Siam lalalala miss Siam
>>214517316>>>/co/
By the way if anyone actually sits down and enjoys the full 5 hours please leave a short review here. Thx. One guy said he thought it was mediocre but I sincerely doubt he actually watched it.
>>214517256It's unique because of all the shock scenes that vividly depict the excess and decadence plaguing Caligula's reign. Removing all that just leaves you with a barely coherent mess of a film.
>>214518636I don’t want to sound mean anon but you haven’t seen the theatrical cut. It’s different, better than the “uncut” cut. Still has gratuitous orgy scenes but removes the unsimulated sex.
