Episodes 1-3 were a "movie" about a crashed ship and investigating it.
Episodes 4-7 are a big pile of nothing because it can't end till episode 8.

I used to not like Aliens much, but now I appreciate it a whole lot now that Alien: Earth showed what it had to offer.
As a side not I especially like it after watching Prometheus and Covenant since the xenomorph queen was foreshadowed with David using Shaw to produce the xenomorph eggs. The studio wanted Cameron to make an action sequel (and he delivered exactly that), so it makes sense not to pursue this alternative, even though I'd also have liked to have that one be explored (in Alien 3 or whatever other sequel, that's not washed up Ridley's Prometheus trilogy, that's also just yet another project stapled onto the Alien IP by studio execs)

To me, the setting and aesthetic was always the most interesting part and why I enjoyed the idea that Blade Runner and Outland are connected to it. It's fun to watch because of the limitations imposed on the stories by their retro technology.
