I saw the first movie, and thought it was a solid chris columbus flick full of magic and whimsy. But never really bothered to go and see the rest. Then I started dating a girl who was a potter kid growing up, and she made me watch the movies with her, and when a new one was in the theaters I would take her. Ever since then I have a soft spot for the movies because they remind me of her. But I still thought they were kind of dumb. I was always mildly curious about the books, I thought they'd surely expand on the whole wizard school thing. I wasn't going to read that trash, because I read actual literature, but I saw stephen fry narrates the audio books, and I could listen to that dude read a phone book. I was fucking shocked at just how little is in the books, that isn't in the movie. Some characters are streamlined together, and maybe a side plot or two that goes nowhere. But until goblet of fire, nothing actually important gets cut.

I thought that was cute. A boring history teacher that was so boring he died in his sleep and his ghost got up the next morning and just kept teaching class like nothing happened, and they've just let him do this for hundreds of years because no one likes that boring ass subject. Or as obnoxious as peeves is, the idea of the manifestation of centuries of rambunctious magical bongistani has formed into drop dead fred. Wish there was more stuff like that in general. Its also kind of annoying that the plot for the first six books would have resolved exactly the same way if harry had just stayed in his dorm room and done his homework. The indiana jones conundrum.
