Anyone watch Lexx?I finally have an answer for someone that wants something along the lines of Farscape or Doctor Who but with weirder stuff and worse, cheaper effects.Someone turned me onto it accidentally a couple weeks ago with a clip of a guy watering a field of heads. The guy was the same actor who played Elaine's shrink/boyfriend on Seinfeld. The first season is made of four 90 minute movies. I'm on the first one and it's weird and bad and yet still good enough to watch. There's something special about cheap 90s f/x where it's a mix of practical stuff and really bad early CGI. Probably made on Amiga, which I remember local nerds at the time always talking about how it punched way above its weight and some actual sci-fi TV shows were made using them.Unfortunately the rips I got are below DVD quality. But not too bad. The f/x would just look worse in higher definition. Anyway, I'm rambling because I'm pretty stoned, and maybe that's why I'm able to dig whatever it is that Lexx is. So do you watch it? I know at least one of you does.

The new Xev actress is okay I guess.I don't like season 3, they moved from random adventures to staying on two planets and the setting is dull compared to what we've had previously, Prince is a garbage villain and the whole thing honestly should have been 2-3 episodes AT BEST, not an entire season. What a waste.Season 4 is pants on head retarded, they clearly ran out of ideas and budget (most of the season takes place on modern day Earth so that they don't have to build alien props and sets), they brought back Prince AGAIN and for the ENTIRE season too, the characters and story lines are exaggerated to comical proportions and frankly the only reason I finished watching the season is as a comedy and to see how ridiculous things get. There are a couple of episodes that feel like old Lexx, mostly toward the end of the season, but it's not enough to salvage it, not as a serious endeavor anyway.I see a lot of people shit on this show here and I honestly don't get the hate. Overall I had a great time with it.

I know that no one cares, but recently I watched entire Lexx for the first time. My overall thoughts are pretty much matching everyone else's. It's not exactly a divisive TV series. It's sleazy sci-fi mixed with '90s Hamburg porn club aesthetic, filled with shitpost episodes and the acting ranges from so-bad-it's-bad to actually brilliant (when Prince arrives). Season 3 drags a bit, but has interesting concepts at least. If you can accept the bonkers logic.But then S04E18 hits - "The Game". Unironically one of my favourite sci-fi episodes in TV's history. Kai and Prince are playing chess (the pieces are talking heads of other characters) on some Scandinavian beach. Holy fucking shit, you can't make this shit up. They're remaking the fucking Seventh Seal.And it's... actually good. Really, unironically good. There are stakes, it's played straight. The chess pieces' dialogues are a mirror to the ongoing story and themes. And that cursed mechanical contraption is something that actually could work, maybe sponsored by some deranged Roman Emperor, deciding to make the gladiator shenanigans more cerebral (if the Romans had chess, that is).It's as if a pile of garbage got recycled into something actually entertaining, semi-abstract and weirdly clever in a very deranged way.They're using real chess rules, instead of just saying shit like "Ah, yes. A valiant strategy. The Pawn need to be sacrificed before the Queen can move." while actually playing checkers with enough midwit lines for normies to feel smarter. But there have been tits so they know people are still watching.I loved my teen years the way they were, but I've always been spoiled with cable. For this show I wish I had been way out in some desolate area of Canada with 3 or 4 stations to choose from and I was watching this because it was the best thing on. The people who would have watched this in America probably liked Sliders and Sci-Fi original movies. I wanted to like all that stuff but couldn't help but find it dorky and lame.
