the movie works because the cult is good at not just manipulating information but also emotions, believing Chris deserved to be killed, that the sex scene was hot or even percieving the cult as a commmune or family means you've bought into their indoctrination to some degree because they use emotions and information to deflect and obscure what's actually happening.
