They become part of the cultural consciousness. You could stand on a ship with your arms spread out or say "I am your father" and immediately people who haven't even seen the movies you're referencing will know what you're talking about. They get parodied and inspire future works. They are quoted and phrases from them become part of the cultural vocabulary.

If you just watch stuff that's culturally relevant to normies you'll miss out on so many cool things. Avatar's world might not be as popular as Star Wars or Warhammer but it's a treat to real sci-fi fans that appreciate its imagined ecosystems and tribes. It would've been better if the final version wasn't dumbed down so much though.

It has nothing you want to keep after the movie ends.
Kong vs Godzilla is also a fast food movie. Hell, count Kong and Godzilla individually themselves.
But at least you leave the theater thinking those are some badass monsters, kids will get their toys, and you wanna see them in more movies or videogames.
Avatar just has indigenous blue people, probably appealing to fetishists but not a concept 99% of people will get behind.
That's it, blue Pocahontas.

The narrative and quality of the storytelling / direction either isn't good enough. The Titanic isn't even that known because of the sinking ship itself, but it lives on in the minds of millions because of it being a big romance movie, the favorite of women. It happens to include a disaster but it stands on its own as a romance movie with the sad ending.

Cameron could have tried some powerful narrative like that and make Avatar legendary too but he didn't, Zootopia is more of an interspecies romance icon than Avatar.

Let me say, I think Avatar could be culturally relevant if there existed a massive AAA single player open world game like Skyrim,Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2 based on Pandora.
Let us travel that gigantic massive world and have adventures on it. Then nerds at least would get into the movies to better enjoy said videogame, and it could get an HBO series or something.

I don't even remember the movies I just watched 1 decades ago and seethed when I realized it became the highest grossing movie ever, then I read 2 was more of the same

But I read some guy ranting that the Avatar world is supposedly very rich and varied, full of quirky things? I was giving it the benefit of doubt.
It's a very standard fantasy world to have jungle area, fire area, water, desert, that stuff. It's not a negative. But supposedly it has weird conscious veins, or rideable weird animals as travel methods..? Maybe creature some monsters and creative weapons to use and level.
Delve into lore by finding stuff.

MAKE IT HAVE THE BEST GRAPHICS EVER, like Crysis when it released back then.
I didn't like Avatar and this could be a fun game, I like colorful worlds. Although I think the new Tomb Raider game will scratch that itch.

>>
>>216981391
It really doesn't tho.
Nor is your Marvel Haet fresh or interesting. It's the trendy thing with movie critics tho.
I say that recognizing that a good number of them have been bad recently.
>>
The main reason why it is culturally irrelevant is because it's just Dances With Wolves in space. It has nothing to say except
>colonialism bad
>military bad
>capitalism bad
>whaling bad
>environmentalism good
And these aren't original ideas. Everyone watches this movie to have keys jangled in their face, comprehend the surface level themes, and then leave without having behind affected in the slightest.
>>
>>216980663
The movies just aren't a big source of references or influences, and usually discussion of them completely disintegrates after they air in the theaters. That's pretty odd for such massively successful movies. When you look at Titanic, another James Cameron movie, which used to be the highest grossing movie of all time, that shit was referenced non-stop and is still discussed fairly often.
There's just nothing to latch onto with Avatar IMO. People go there to experience Pandora while not really caring about the actual storylines or characters.

>>216981402

I am 99% sure you confuse relevancy with "I own toys of it" or "I quote it stupidly irl".
>>
>>216981441
I feel like even those themes could make for a culturally relevant movie with a better director or writer.

Like, prison movies are a dime in a dozen, but Stephen King somehow wrote 2 God tier ones. The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption. The character work is just top tier.
Lately in the horror department we got Sinners and Welcome to Derry as mostly RACISM BAD stories, but they were so powerfully done they both punched me in the gut, if the Black Spot scene from Derry had happened on the big screen it'd be a contender for movie of the year on shock alone.

You could write a tighter story about the human befriending the blue indians and the evil white men eventually causing a massacre, if you write it well enough, it would be a movie people talk about as powerful even in 2025
>>
>>216981454
Titanic is a movie about a real event that happened, with eccentric human characters on a boat. Avatar is a movie about giant blue people in the woods on another planet. There is a massive difference in how relatable they are to humans.
>>
>>216981045
>Avatar is way bigger than
Avatar is completely astroturfed. No one is seeing this crap. People only saw the first one because of the novelty, which was 16 years ago. Have you ever heard anyone out in the world ever talk about these movies, especially the sequels?

Saying this in "defense" of Avatar... of its concept at least. Give it to a better writer and they could squeeze more emotions out of the premise.

Because it's the most discussed movie on this board, and has been forever.
>>
>>216981660
Star Wars somehow managed to entrap TWO different generations of people, and the first ones mostly hated the 2nd set of movies.
But they were still done well enough that they captivated an audience, quality still matters - how do we know this? The Sequels got NO fans lmao. A full trilogy with the shilling of a thousand suns, 2nd became temporarily popular because of how bad it was, and by now people just memory hole them like Avatar. The sequels have no impact right now, whatever the prequels pulled off these couldn't. Not enough cool shit is my guess, literally only Kylo Ren, he's the only cool character with a decent story breaking his back trying to carry the trilogy but he couldn't - there's no other villains or heroes that you'd enjoy.

Kylo is awesome though, if the released a new Disney+ show called "Knights of Ren" or just "Kylo" that followed his origins, training, and some cool adventures with his original squad, it would be popular I guarantee you, he outshines Rey so bad that in their pettiness, the execs gave him no dialogues during the last 20 minutes of the final movie once he turns good.
>>
>>216980742
Wrong, that anon isn't media for people to consume.
>>
>>216981704
>Because it's the most discussed movie on this board
Way to give the game away.
You only know about movies through memes on this board. You tried (and failed) to lie about your personal experience, and instead of trying to defend or expand on that when challenged, you immediately reverted back. You're too lazy to even make your lie convincing.
It's sad how boring you faggots are nowadays. No creativity. Brains addled by social media and ChatGPT.
>>
>>216981686
Because that would be ridiculous, it got 3 animated movies which are the most disrespectful shit ever but those are my favorite Nostalgia Critic episodes. It's every bit as dumb as it sounds, how the fuck do you make more Titanic movies?

But the film influenced the world and media in different ways, the romantic plot is everywhere, the scene of some artist drawing a posing girl became an instant meme before memes existed, THE CAPTAIN DYING WITH HIS SHIP (and maybe a crew playing music as it happens) is also part of human consciousness thanks to the Titanic movie.

And nobody else wants to take things further with Avatar into their lives beyond just watching it for the spectacle.

I genuinely believe most people talking about no cultural impact and using "I don't remember anything from it" are simply lying.
Like, it's not a rocket science to remember landing, Navi introduction, first contact, training montage, sex scene, tree downing, final battle. It is basic shit.
I am not the smartest person, and watched first Avatar only once and I remember almost every segment and basic characters names from it.

>>
>why is avatar 'culturally irrelevant'?
Because it doesn't appeal to terminally online leftists that blog about cultural impact. It appeals to normal people with decent family values that want a big scifi spectacle to justify paying $20 per person to see a movie in a theater. It doesn't need a fandom to earn billions every time it's in theaters. It apparently doesn't even need memorable names. It's just that good to average moviegoers and until Disney pushes Jimbo to shoehorn in a gay or trans character plotline that won't change.
