>>217055509Maybe, I thought that was gonna happen in 3. I also was waiting for a moment where Spider's loyalty to Jake wavers at least for a second. I mean Neytiri very blatantly despises him, Jake tries to get rid of him and kill him, and all Quaritch does is talk about how much he loves him and is willing to help him. But we don't even get a hint of hesitation from Spider to stay with the Sullys

My mom loved it bros. She only goes to the theaters maybe once every few years. I was worried the imax 3d might be hard for her since she's in her late sixties but she thought it was great and only occasionally had issues following the battles.
>>217056365Cool, good on you. Wish I could see it in IMAX, I would be in there every week probably.
just how strong is this thing when it tanked a bunch of fire and bullets?
>>217056493Since it turns out he's not just a predator but a bloodthirsty brawler, he's bound to be durable. Every IRL animal like that is.
I never really understood why the humans didn’t just tunnel miles underground to extract the unobtanium instead of flattening everything on the surface. We can already bore long, deep tunnels today, and this movie takes place far in the future… so that tech should be insanely advanced. They could’ve avoided the trees entirely. Hell, they could’ve even used their holographic tech to fabricate some kind of “prophecy” about humans saving the Na’vi from an underground demon or threat, giving them a reason to cooperate instead of resist. For a civilization that advanced, the humans in Avatar make some surprisingly short-sighted decisions. They could have mined copious amounts of unobtanium without ever having to fire a single bullet. BTW, the new 4chan Captcha SUCKS BALLS.
>>217056493Different question, do organisms on Pandora have better/faster wound healing?
I just want to say that I love all of my Avafrens very much. We fly together again. All streaming frens, Second Person, Abatap (PBUH), everyone. Even the Tonowario guy. You. Yes, you, reading this right now. That is the power of Avatar.
>>217056640It's a classic case of being stuck in the present and having to make future tech seem advanced. The earth moving machines were just even bigger CAT dozers and dump trucks ffs.
>>217056493You think theres any chance Quaritch will end up becoming Toruk's new master?
I hope they go back to ground battles with mechanized warfare in the next one
If the ash tribe does sacrifices who are they sacrificing to? Will Quaritch returning from the flames seal him as some sort of demigod in their eyes?
>>217056797I think they sacrifice for Varang because she set up the narrative that Eywa didn't protect them but she does. Don't quite remember. There is that scene where's going schizo chanting to herself in the battle though.
>>217056651Have we even heard any mention of Pandoran infection, disease or parasites? I guess if they were explicitly absent we would have heard it.
>>217055475
First off Quaritch is based. Second, the biggest mistake Cameron made was having Sigourney Weaver play a teenager. You have a young looking cat person with a granny voice coming out of her. It just doesn't work. I await the AI edits that replace her lines with a model that actually works.>inb4 nooooo fuck AIthis is an acceptable use
If the Mangkwan are widely known to raid, torture and murder other Na'vi, and potentially burning sacred Eywa neural nodes, why haven't any clans wiped them out, together or alone? They can't be as numerous as most other clans considering they were decimated by an eruption and are now a bunch of warlike addicts who regularly die to the people they're raiding and to Varang's whims.
>>217056780No. But he might go and tame his own.
>>217056912You don't even need to replace them, just use AI to make her sound like a pubescent Siggy like she should.
I finally went to see Avatar 3 at the theater (I had already seen it at home first) and I have to say a few things.>It really looks great in the theater.>The first scene with Spider and Kiri. It was funny for people because of the seizure joke, but then it felt weird when the tickling started>The weapons scene. Varang isn't my favorite character, and even though I had seen the scene before, it's not the same as seeing it at the theater. She really exudes elegance. In fact, every scene with Varang appearing alongside Quaritch is elegant despite the character's savagery>The scene where Kiri transforms Spider. Everything was fine. The need for Kiri's ritual was understandable, but the problem was that it lasted longer than necessary, and people felt uncomfortable because it really looked like Kiri was having sex with Spider through the earth to save him>Kiri and Spider's kiss. It started with laughter at their jokes, but then it became uncomfortable when Kiri started flirting with Spider. When Kiri started caressing Spider, the audience understood what was going to happen, and at first I heard surprised voices, but after the kiss I heard that most people liked it and there was a lot of knowing laughter>The near-suicide scene. I don't have much to say, the character of Lo'ak never connected with me, but I think the scene is fine. A lot of people were worried about him here>The plan to kill Spider. Here, you could really feel the tension in the room from the audience, and it was very shockingExtraI don't understand why they take children to see this movie. Halfway through the movie, they were complaining about when the action would start. It was funny to me, but I know it wasn't funny to many people in the theater.
>>217056912He could have just made her voice a tiny bit higher to sound more childlike.
>>217056685It should have been me with all this blue titty in my face.
>>217054185>Infamously inaccurate Please tell me what you're smoking because I sure would love to be as high as you. When was the last time you looked at bomber capabilities, fucking WWII? Right now, much less in the future, we have laser guided munitions with a margin of error of 1-3 meters and a blast radius of 30 meters. It has to completely fail to function in order to miss. We can have a drone fire a razor projectile from 30,000 feet and kill the passenger of a car while leaving the driver untouched. Being able to kill 1 guy and leave the guy next to him untouched meets any reasonable definition of accuracy. By the way high altitude != orbit, we are talking 30,000 feet versus like 330,000 feet. 30,000 feet is still high enough that any Na'vi would freeze to death before reaching it. Even taking plot conveniences like electromagnetic interference into effect it's pretty unbelievable that humanity as an interstellar species can't replicate capabilities we already have right now. The real answer is that while Avatar makes some nice gestures it is definitively not hard Sci-Fi and the the technical details/plot are just excuses to get us to the spectacle and general premise which is the real appeal of the series.

>>217056640No bro you don't get it, the humans are illogically stupid because people I don't like IRL are also illogically stupid, it's super deep. A master class in meaningful political commentary. By the way James has gone on record as unironically insisting the depiction of humans is fine because he genuinely thinks it's an accurate characterization of organizations like British East Empire Company.
>>217056941>>The plan to kill Spider. Here, you could really feel the tension in the room from the audience, and it was very shockingThere was a lady next to me who was talking full volume the whole movie (I didn't say or do shit because she was old as fuck and whatever). At this part she said, in a southern Virginian accent>"Ohh nooo!! Jake Don't do it! Noo! What are ya doin?"
>>217056989I can't wait to see their creatura child after the time skip
>>217057151>he genuinely thinks it's an accurate characterization of organizations like British East Empire Company.it is. They were fucking awful, bro.

>>217056640>For a civilization that advanced, the humans in Avatar make some surprisingly short-sighted decisions. The humans are hilariously retarded in all ways. It's actually insane how incompetent they are for a company that's trying to create a new earth.
.
>>217057262That's really cute. Commenting and cheering and freaking out with people during movies is a genuinely fun experience. Obviously it's rude 99% of the time so I never get to. But I've gotten to hoot and holler with the hood rats before and it's an 11/10 time. They should have showings just for that.
>>217056685
>>217057351it's actually the 3rd movie in the series
>>217056982Sounds like the Na'vi are a bunch of NPCs in dire need of White Saviors.
saw someone claim that Kiri is grace again. Here are my thoughtsGrace wasn't too late on the transfer process, she was simply denied, eywa saw Jake, saw what he's capable of, and decided to plant an avatar of herself, in her na'vi body.In a way, Kiri is like an experiment ran by Eywa to "test" Jake's worthiness, I mean, come on, the religious undertone here, choosing Jake, and then creating a mortal version of yourself to see the world through the eyes of your creation, it's just obvious.and she has her access blocked specifically to not taint the test result, only when the time is right shall she be allowed to reconnect.
>>217057448Say, thats a nice camrip.
What do you guys think of the frame rate shifts? It was noticeable a few times for me.
>>217056941>The plan to kill Spider. Here, you could really feel the tension in the room from the audience, and it was very shockingCameron is a master of this sort of drawn out scene.
>>217057301It's something to do. When WoW came out, an old white lady was negotiating the stairs with a cane or walker, helped by her daughter, I think. They seemed to have trouble at one point and so I offered to help, but they said they were good.Another time, when I watched WoW with a full house, something sad but beautiful happened. Right around the point of Neteyam's death, another older, well-dressed white couple were sitting next to me. After several minutes, the woman became very emotional, and excused herself. She did not return, and I'm not sure if the man stayed put until the end or if he went after her, but he stayed put for several minutes.I don't know exactly what she had going on psychologically, but I imagined that she might have experienced a death of a child herself. I felt badly for her, but at the same time I was happy at the direct confirmation and reminder that Avatar is a work of art with the power to induce strong emotional reactions in an audience, something I knew from personal experience, many years earlier.
>>217057275>proudly wears the "I love my mixed-race grandchildren" tshirt
>>217038983they better do this shit in the next flick
>>217057517Which honestly give the kiss between kiri and Spider some weird religious undertones.

UNDERNEATH THE BRIDGE
>>217057286It's completely reasonable to characterize those historical organizations as evil, and the issue isn't depicting the RDA as evil. The issue is depicting them as stupid to the point of illogically sabotaging their own objectives for no reason. Those historical organizations may have been oppressive and immoral but they weren't incompetent. They were playing a strategic game involving intimidation, politics, and effective application of military force. The RDA's main commander has been tasked with colonization of the planet and she's completely willing to kill the kid who might reveal how you can get humans to breathe the atmosphere. Quaritch shows up with Navi allies, which is exactly the kind of force multiplication/unconventional warfare capability that the Recom unit should have been based around in the first place, and she sneers at him and treats it like a game of officer politics. We could go on and on. Even operating from a perspective of cold blooded amorality there is essentially no justification for any of this. It benefits no one least of all themselves. The RDA is what happens when a Saturday morning mustache twirler fucks a plot hole and then you give what crawls out control over humanity's most critical mining operation and future home. By the way I'm not saying the series as a whole is bad, just that this is a particularly noticeable and egregious part of the writing. You can leave the humans as unredeemably evil, I just don't want to have my immersion broken in the middle of the movie trying to figure out what could possibly justify what looks like intentional self-sabotage.

>>217057771its worth buying on sale, but make no mistake its UBIslop... but it looks great with a nice gfx card
>>217057707Kate Winslet lobbied REALLY hard for the role of Rose, and promised to put up with whatever Cameron would throw at her (general hardship, drowning hazards, etc). Cameron relented and gave it to her, and it worked out for all involved. I feel like the Avatar minor chararacter is Kate's way of repaying the favor to Jim.Some of the best stuff in 2 is Lo'ak with Payakan, the central image of the film. Lo'ak goes off by himself, gets decent music, riding etc, finds himself. The whole adolescence thing, not fully formed yet (Kiri was driving this). The "cold" open in the dream and final shots also notably depart from the flying-in/eyes-open devices.
>>217057600My mom giggled at that part and I thought it was cute. This is completely unrelated to the fact that I want a dommy mommy Na'vi gf btw
>>217057731I don't know man. I'm a low level contractor for a large real estate portfolio/construction company and the owner, despite being a multi-millionaire, is constantly interfering in day-to-day ops where he's clueless. He's always forcing people to do stupid shit which to me or someone else might seem dumb as fuck, but to him it's as if he's directing things in a more efficient and cost-effective manner. The amount of times he sabotages something only to do it how others planned on it initially later on for an even higher price is crazy. And somehow he's been at it since the 80s and has amassed a hefty fortune. The people in charge tend to be extremely driven, ass kissers, or nepo babies. Intelligence is more of a bonus.
>>217057771If just for exploring and flying yeah. Its basically Crysis but Avatar.
Is it a cat nose or what?
>>217057771>buy game>realize I can't make a cute na'vi>refund
>>217056640In Avatar 1 we're shown a hologram of the largest known unobtanium deposit underneath Hometree, which makes it grow so tall. It appears to be close enough to the surface that you wouldn't be able to easily tunnel-mine it out without collapsing everything above it
>>217055436>there was literally A GIGA KILLDOZERThis was the first good Avatar film. And a heel Navi sub-species of cannibal fire cultists was a needed 3rd rail antagonist faction. >>217056640The real question is why doesn't hippy tractor driver scientist put his thinking cap on as a cynic and suggest they MILK the whales after making them slaves by opening a diplomatic channel and delivering an ultimatum. Can't be much different from IRL horseshoe crab blood harvesting for Amrita.>>217056915Subplot: Fire Monkeys get a constant stream of Navi Non-NPCs that are disturbed by being the slaves of a gigantic mushroom hive mind. That should have been the secondary sales point to Varang-- liberation of Smurfs from eldritch planet mindfuck tyranny.>>217056941>why take childrenIt's the half hour of horror and R movie trailers that are the real issue. Aside having no intermission.
>>217057543I saw the movie today and yeah it was very jarring. I was surprised when I got home and watched a bunch of reviews and nobody mentioned it.
Bros? It still hasn't hit even 900 million... I'm worried aou the chances for billies...
>>217057796>>217057707I like her character, especially how she has to break or defend her creeds almost every scene for miscreant foreigners. Her scene wrapping Neytiri in herbs was funny.
>>217057889I initially noticed it a lot, but by about halfway through it was no longer jarring. It successfully trained me to accept slower/static shots as 24 and faster ones as 48, without being bothered by the switch
The unoriginality complaints are so weird. Like all the movies that Avatar supposedly copied were already a decade old when it came out. There have only been three Avatar movies and they came out years apart from one another so idk how someone could be tired of them unless that's literally all they watch. Avatar 3 had plenty of new stuff like the fight in Bridgehead and the fire tribe. Meanwhile Warhammer gets endless praise despite having plagiarized dozens of things. The internet is retarded.
>>217057931anon, /avtr/ made it all the way to march with TWOW, we have time.
>>217057955It's warranted because Jim copy pastes moments from the first film, exact same angles and music cues. The first movie was a master stroke of action staging and I was always hoping the sequels would progress it.
>>217057558>physical world tree-fungus metaphor for afterlife makes it concrete to the most godless atheist "Me Generation" in their stubborn old ageThat's why. >>217057731Military brass is realistically out of touch, but after GWOT and going as Ranger native special forces as possible, Cameron shouldn't lack for advisors to make the human strategy more interesting.
>>217055602>I also was waiting for a moment where Spider's loyalty to Jake wavers at least for a second.I was kinda expecting Spider to be a little peeved after Jake not only was going to kill him, but took his time for the execution, made the kid kneel and wait while he monologued. That was fuuuucked up.
>>217056941>it really looked like Kiri was having sex with Spider through the earth to save himI will 100% own the fact that I come to these threads to 40k larp and support humanity ironically but blue space pussy is starting to occupy more and more of my thoughts and I'm not sure how to handle that. I'm too proud to say I'd fold like Jake or Quaritch but I'm becoming more interested in this than I anticipated.
>>217056941Cute couple.
>>217057329Speaking of unused strategies the human defectors among the Na'vi should be focused on producing pro-Na'vi anti-RDA propaganda and beaming it to Earth. It apparently doesn't take much convincing for human scientists to defect once reaching Pandora, there's probably plenty of factions on Earth that want to fuck with corpos or protect my heckin wholesome blue space babies. Fostering political division among humanity by appealing to people receptive to the message is a smart call, even if you don't actually intend to help those people in the slightest. Even if Earth needs unobtainium or it will collapse it wouldn't be the first time people exhibited suicidal lack of self-preservation for the sake of outsiders they've never met and muh feelings.
>>217058202I hope they have even more half-breedy kids than Jake and Neytiri
Just saw it.
