So, /film/. A man gets to wonder. My taste is more than solid, furnished over the course of a life of daily film-watching with painstaking attention to detail. Whenever I am not watching or reading (on cinema) I fantasize about doable film ideas, scripts and sequences and the like. I dabble in the technical aspects, having a few shorts to my name, out of which some have uncoercedly declared I possess a degree of talent. I know about cinema's extensive history, versed in semiotic analysis. My opinions and takes (although relegated to obscure websites and blogs) carry more precision and weight than anybody's. Why, then, am I not invited to festivals and pre-screenings among all those peddlers and peacemongers and sycophants? Why am I still not given the opportunity to direct my first feature film? Is it because I have no friends in high places? Because I have no friends at all?

Ask about /film/ to an AI asssistant and post the answerI'll start (1/2)"The /film/ general (often abbreviated as /fg/) on 4chan's /tv/ board is a recurring thread dedicated to the discussion of world cinema, "kino" (high-art film), and technical analysis. Unlike the rest of /tv/, which is often flooded with superhero movies and mainstream TV memes, /film/ prioritizes independent, foreign, and experimental films. Favorite Movies (2024–2026 Consensus)The "favorites" of this community often align with major festival winners (Cannes, Venice) and works by established "slow cinema" directors. The Brutalist (2024): Widely regarded as a masterpiece in the thread for its 70mm epic scale and technical ambition.Miséricorde (2024): Directed by Alain Guiraudie, this film became a major talking point for its mix of rural French atmosphere and "Hitchcockian" suspense. One Battle After Another (2025): The new project from Paul Thomas Anderson is perhaps the most anticipated and discussed "event" film in the general's recent history.Afternoons of Solitude (2024/2025): Albert Serra's documentary on bullfighting was celebrated for its extreme aesthetic commitment and "anti-commercial" nature.Anora (2024): Sean Baker's Palme d'Or winner was respected for its kinetic energy and authentic "outsider" perspective.Bugonia (2025): Yorgos Lanthimos' latest work is frequently debated, with users analyzing whether he has maintained his artistic "soul" or become too commercial. "
>>217810774All those movies are mainstream and garbage though.
(2/2)""Best Posters" and IdentityBecause 4chan is inherently anonymous, there are no "best posters" in the traditional sense of verified influencers or usernames. However, the community is defined by specific types of anonymous contributors: The Chart Makers: These users are the unsung heroes of the general. They compile massive recommendation charts (e.g., "The Accessibility Levels" or "Essential European Noir") that circulate as the definitive guides for newcomers. The Festival Travelers: Anonymous users who attend festivals like Cannes or Berlinale and provide "boots-on-the-ground" reviews of obscure films months before they reach a wider audience. The "Gatekeepers": Though often aggressive, these posters define the thread's identity by rejecting "capeshit" (superhero films) and corporate blockbusters, forcing the discussion to stay focused on directorial intent and film history. The Archivers: Posters who link to 4plebs or Letterboxd lists that catalog every film mentioned in the general, ensuring the ephemeral discussions are preserved. The general serves as a "high-trust" environment for those looking to move beyond the IMDb Top 250 and into the deeper, more challenging corners of cinema history."

>>217809039Every time I watch Wes Anderson I feel so pulled out of the movie viewing experience. The way all the characters face the screen, the shots that only use right angles or whatever you call it, etc.. He meticulously crafts his stuff but in a way where I feel removed from the movie instead of being drawn in. He may be a master of what he does but his movies always seem to remind you that you're still just watching a movie. The imposing style also clashes with the light-hearted quirky humor he's trying to do. Lastly, the actual contents of the movies are usually just boring, though this is my experience.

Hiroshima Mon Amour. An interesting film for sure. Two ways of thinking regarding the aftermath of the second world war. Neither really able to see the pain and suffering the other side experiences, despite wanting to. "You saw nothing in Hiroshima, nothing." even though she claims to have seen everything. It's interesting, they juxtapose a lot of the architect from each country, and it gives this sense of, Japan moving on despite the tragedy, bright neon lights, very clean and urban setting. Then on the other hand, you have Nevers, France. Brooding old structures that still stand, unwilling to succumb to the tides of change. Of course one must remember that it's a small town of 40000, maybe construction isn't the main thing keeping people employed there. Through that small town, is reflected the mindscape of France of the times, painted onto the woman. The film touches on the concept of forgetting on several occasions. How a past love will fade away, you'll forget the face, the voice, the names, and life will go on. It's interesting that something as strong and positive as love, will fade away, yet the horrible tragedies will not. People erect monuments to pain and suffering, as to relive those moments as long as they can, burning bodies, fallen hair, the most gruesome mementos, to make sure that those who haven't even experienced it themselves, will not forget it. Why can't we do the same to love? Traumatic events shape us, but so do events filled with love. I think it's our choice how we frame it. Are we lucky to have experieneced love, or unlucky to have lost it? A lot of times, it's only one of these, maybe the healthy thing is to not forget either one.
Is it bad that I enjoyed this?
>Solo Mio takes on a subject that’s scary for this era when “toxic masculinity” has undermined white male confidence vis-à-vis the awkwardness of American feminism. Yes, the film’s answer to this crisis is simplistic: Matt needs salvation, and Gia is a woman who leads and forgives and understands all. She’s especially sensitive following her own past romantic and social struggles. Plus, she’s rich. Their pairing confronts and resolves the dishonest class issues of such gimmicky sitcoms as When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail. It is the American-to-European cultural transition that gives Solo Mio rickety charm. It’s a product of Angel Studios, the independent production and distribution company dedicated to “values based” entertainment with Christian themes. (It’s best known for the social and historical films Sound of Freedom and Bonhoeffer.)
>>217817114>In Solo Mio, Angel Studios risks the minefields of sexual attraction and spiritual fidelity that Hollywood has toyed with since the great days of Depression- and World War II–era screwball comedies but has lately squandered amid the current gender wars. That’s why Solo Mio confuses its romantic archetypes, replacing American sitcoms King of Queens and The Honeymooners with exotic musical standards: The title Solo Mio is a vulgarized malaprop of the romantic Italian ballad “O Sole Mio” (turning “My Sunshine” to “Lonely Me”). Gia’s cousin turns out to be the celebrated tenor Andrea Bocelli (surprisingly tall next to Kevin James, Bocelli does a slapstick parody of Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman, but on horseback).>The Kinnanes recognize contemporary sexual conflict although never avowing the spirituality achieved by Leo McCarey, Ernst Lubitsch, and Preston Sturges — or James Sweeney in his modern screwball classics Straight Up and Twinless. But the final sitcom twist of Matt and Gia both confessing a letter-writing twist hails to those classics. It suggests there might be a future for a masculine sitcom.

i was going to make a 'rent-free' comment but if were being honest there is some truth here.old hollywood having the same artistic merit as comic books is hyperbole, but lets be honest, there is no comparison. americans own europoors in just about every single aspect imaginable...except art. there are some standouts that shouldnt be ignored, but overall art is the single eurofag W.the best art requires suffering. americans dont suffer - we are too based for that. we were doomed from the start.

Finally saw the original Scarface. I totally get why it's a classic and towering influence after all these years, barring Boris Karloff the performances are great and the script is remarkably tight, the cinematography and set design has this great, almost gothic atmosphere, with great characterizations of even the minor characters like the secretary.I also respect, appreciate, and like the De Palma movie even more than I did before seeing the original; because I was very pleasantly surprised to find out after watching the original that it was a surprisingly faithful adaptation that was more incisive politically, gave us more worldbuilding and character development, while also adding all the gore, profanity, and sexuality that was awkwardly absent from the original. He essentially updated the story while also giving it more depth, realism, and style all at the same time, which is a remarkable feat especially given the source material is so great in the first place.Very good watch.

>>217826080https://letterboxd.com/film/just-tony/>>217828550Based, based.>>217828920Yes. Watched the 1h40m version (supposedly the most trustful version to the original out there).
