Are there any other examples of a movie receiving universal praise at its release only for internet reviewers to rewrite history and say it was critically maligned and a financial failure?
>>218203950The Last Jedi, I thik. Not a Star Wars fan, but press was really positive on this when it released. Looking in from the outside, it really feels like prequels all over again.

>>218203950The prequels were bad back then and they're bad now
>>218204894They're not though.TPM's plot is sound. AOTC's only problem was the beginning part with Padme's assassination and the believability of the Anakin-Padme romance. And ROTS is a fucking masterpiece.
>>218204975> And ROTS is a fucking masterpiece.
>>218203950>universal praise>internet reviewers rewrite history
youtubers don't change opinions, they regurgitate themjust because no one held you down and screamed at your child self about how bad the movies are, doesn't mean everyone liked them.
>>218203950Loved them as a kid, and remembered them fondly, along with the OT. Went back and rewatched the prequels and realized just how gay and campy they were. Then I went and rewatched the OT and thought the exact same thing.
>>218203950Slumdog Millionaire.Back in 2008 it was EVERYWHERE. I thought it was utter garbage as a movie. Nowadays it has been memory holed to oblivion
>>218204975>ROTS is a fucking masterpiece
Does anyone else feel like all these prequel guys are brown? I feel like the only people who could possibly like this trash have to be ESL at the very least. It's similar to Indians being obsessed with Snyder.
>>218205044>YouTubers don't change opinionsExcept they do. The reason why YouTubers are sometimes "influencers" is because they influence the decision making of those watch them. That's why people went to see the "Iron Lung" movie (people went to go see it because Markiplier was it). It's why there was an entire era of the internet where everyone was into breadtube. It's why everyone was conservative and anti-left before the breadtube wave. YouTubers do change opinions. You are just denying reality.
>>218205032You sincerely underestimate how much in intensity the Prequel hate was
>>218203950I’m guessing you were 7 or 8 when the prequels came out. I remember people mostly mocking them until the last 10 years or so which is when people who were kids when the films came out started speaking up.

>>218205250all the revisionism that the prequels are good really kicked in when disney was getting ready to buy star wars, they put a huge amount of damage control out to protect their new IP. it's hilarious that prequel schizos call anyone disney shills for not liking them.

>>218205344The original trilogy is cool if you watch it with your kids, fun family movies, nothing more. The prequels are bad. Never bothered watching the new ones because I knew they'd be much much worse than the prequels.
>>218205561How are they bad?
>>218205561Both my sons loved the prequels.

>>218205589Yeah your sons, I bet if I showed my six year old the prequels he would like them more than the original. They have far more action, creatures and other things that kids will like.
>>218205573So many things that are bad about the prequels but one of the most irritating one for me is how ObiWan and Anakin laugh at almost every dangerous situation they are in. They hardly take anything seriously.
>>218205589>my sons
>>218205738Is your argument that "just because kids likes them, that doesn't mean they are good"?

>>218205783No, I was answering in regards to what he said.
>>218205773Because the dangerous situations they find themselves in are "just another day at the office" as far they are concerned. Courage and remaining calm in a situation is basically the Jedi way during the time of the Prequels.
>>218205800Unless you are an unironic NEET who has successfully for welfare, you basically cannot afford to be a shut-in.
>>218205815Got it

Gunray doesn't even have her escorted by droidekas.>The TF somehow expect a treaty signed under duress to be legally binding.>R2D2 being the queen's astromech is a huge contrivance.>The TF attempt to destroy the ship holding the one person they require to sign their treaty. >>218207093Then the answer would be some backroom deal between Sidious and the TF.
>>218207189Yeah, but Boomers/Xers/Millennials had hangout sitcoms and detective/doctor shows where the characters were fun, endearing and likable. Anakin is a fucking annoying asshole through all those movies, Padme is one of Natalie Portman's worst romantic roles. Stiff, idiotic, mutually emotionally abusive. She's basically supposed to be a 25 year old Lady Empress, yet she's basically committing statutory rape and politically shoehorning her 17 year old boyfriend into a politicized nepotism role. All I get from the prequels is that the Republic and the Jedi deserved to be fucking crushed. Fast forward to Empire and Jedi, Yoda and Obi Wan are still telling Luke all this bullshit about forsaking attachment and stuff, all the same shit that screwed Anakin. They learned nothing. At the end of it all, Anakin restores balance precisely because he finally becomes his own man and rejects the Jedi once and for all by caring and loving his son. Born a slave, then a Jedi padawan and knight, then a sith lord under Sidious. He finally becomes his own man at the end of his life. Having said all that, I don't think Lucas intended much of this. It's mostly accidental and my point of view.
