I just hope that the new series doesn't fuck it up.The problem is that the reason NGE was so popular (IMO) is the story and characters, not the mecha fight scenes. And the characters are very compact in that their personalities further the story without much in the way of leftover emotions. My point is that these characters were made for the story of NGE.My point is that while people might enjoy action scenes, you can't just put eva actions scenes into an anime and expect that you are gonna get a good anime. You might, but trying to catch the lightning in a bottle that was NGE is difficult. So maybe you include the original characters. But the problem is that those characters were purpose built for a specific story, and you are forced to mess around with them to fit a new story. This is what the rebuilds did, and is part of why I dislike the rebuilds. Other than it looks shit and the story is shit. But whatever.My ultimate fear, and this is because the trailer focussed on a piano and a setting largely only seen in the rebuilds, is that the new anime is gonna be based on the rebuilds universe. But time will tell.
