I don't know what to tell you if you didnt notice any change in Joe between his fantasy of telling off his boss, the reality of him meekly quitting, his confidence in New York gradually fading away as he fails to become a succesful prostitute, and him going from threatening to kill Rizzo to depending on him. He's a drastically different guy in the end when he's determined he should find some kind of job in Miami instead of trying to make a living as a cowboy themed prostitute
