What's up with all the Nixon jokes? He left office in 1974 and Futurama debuted in 1999, 5 years after Nixon's death, btw.

Did that nigga really live rent free in the showrunners heads for 25+ years?

Nixon is to Boomers what Trump is to Millennials

As you point out, Nixon left office in 1974. However, in the early seasons of Saturday Night Live (1976 - 1979, to be exact) Nixon was regularly satirized.
Why was Nixon so uniquely picked on by comedians, long after he left office? Lots of reasons. There's the obvious answer of him being more right-wing while the entertainment industry leans more left, but that doesn't fully explain it (we weren't inundated with Bush and Reagan impressions years/decades after they left office). It could be his distinctive voice and mannerisms, but all presidents have distinctive voices and mannerisms. It could be the scandal that clouded his second term, but then why weren't we inundated with Bill Clinton parodies in the 2000s?
I really don't know anon, it's odd. I've seen threads discussing this before but no answer is really satisfactory to me
>>
Because it was funny, they could give him a funny voice and make him be an asshole and kids who never heard the real Nixon speak would think it's hilarious since the understand the concept of Nixon

>we weren't inundated with Bush and Reagan impressions years/decades after they left office
They weren't the republican in office during Groening's college-aged years. He was born in 54. This is the real obvious answer.

You're an idiot, but the significance of Watergate had nothing to do with the scandal itself; it was the first time the media exhibited real power predominating the government's. During previous instances of corruption, e.g. Teapot Dome, or the general corruption of republicans - especially Grant - during the gilded age, people would at most be upset enough to effect politicians to hold themselves to a higher standard. Moreover, there have been numerous instances where a strong president would suppress, intimidate or outright jail the media, e.g. Lincoln and FDR. Watergate signified a total flip in the dynamic between government and media; they were able to spin some generic political scheme into the greatest instance of corruption in the history of the world, and effectively force the commander in chief to resign. From that point onward, it became clear that every president would have to toe the line of the media. The perpetual ridicule and satirization of the story serve as a reminder that they now supersede all three branches of government. Not only that, but they have completely tarnished and manipulated Nixon's legacy to the point where people genuinely believe he was some super right-wing nutcase, rather than a pragmatist, who was relatively moderate, if not progressive, and took a realpolitik approach. Retards would have you believe that Nixon sat further right than e.g. Obama or Biden.

Futurama Nixon howls because when Billy West watched the Kennedy/Nixon debates as a kid, Nixon's sweaty awkwardness made him think that he was seconds away from turning into a werewolf.

If you made a joke about politics before 2016, the President didn’t have a meltdown on Xitter and tell his followers how to respond to it. People were not glued to politics on their phones all day.

because nixon had a cartoon character personality independent of how you felt about him.
Same reason Al Gore was briefly in the comedy zeitgeist too.

The Leftist wankery gets baked into the entertainment of the period.

When they talk about this show they'll try to sweep all the Al Gore 'muh Global Warming' bullshit under the rug like 'j/k bro', but for anyone who lived through that shit, you know it was wall-to-wall hyperventilating about polar bears and shit that never happened and was never going to.
