The audience is supposed to forgive Kimiko because of her tragic past but Homelander's childhood was far, far worse and yet he's portrayed as unforgivable. Homelander has even shown remorse for some of his actions while Kimiko continues to kill people whenever the opportunity arises without so much as a second thought. Starlight has murdered innocent people with no remorse, and Firecracker's story line showed that she was always a huge hypocritical piece of shit. Hughie is the only one that isn't outright garbage but, like the rest of The Boys, he's just a charisma vacuum and completely uninteresting. In the comics, they never really tried to paint The Boys as "good" and both sides were generally shown to be morally repulsive. The show fails at this and tries to portray The Boys as the good, moral side while they commit acts that are every bit as bad as most of the supes. It also doesn't help that every episode is completely carried by Soldier Boy and Homelander.

But I would argue he was a big selling point of the show, for myself at least. The whole reason I decided to give it a watch was because I saw some clips of him in a music edit and was kinda intrigued. The idea of superheroes, and superman specifically, existing in the real world in a realistic way is actually a very interesting and scary premise. And Homelander was a really interesting and complex character in the earlier seasons, before the writers decided to subject him to the Folie a Deux treatment because the chuds were liking him a little too much.
