You are in the mood for horror/thrills but are not sure what to watch? You want to broaden your horizons with some foreign horror? Roll here. Or just pick. I don't care. I even included some better known and english-language ones for the brainlets among you.

Anyone got some reccs for more Asian horror? Japanese, Korean, Hong Kong etc is ideal. I watched The Seventh Curse a few nights ago and while it was goofy as shit, some of the gore and effects were insanely good for such a low budget movie.

Not huge into gore, but I like things that are weird and scary. I'd like some goofy stuff but also some more serious stuff too. Practical effects are a must though, seeing puppets and other real shit was awesome to see.
I think some guy also died or got seriously injured while filming, a real person got hit by a car and flung pretty far, with an intense look of pain on his face when I slowed it down. There's no way he wasn't at least seriously injured. The stunts in some of these Hong Kong movies are insane.

It's impossible to run. The strength in your legs collapse after a few seconds. Coming out of surgery you have a catheter, so you don't have to go to the toilet cubicle for a few days. You do have to get out of bed for your sheets to be changed and to give yourself a towel wash. This results in you sitting in the side chair, or using your hospital bed as support.

What a snoozefest, aside from one or two scenes. The dialogue was extremely generic and wooden also, makes sense that it was written by two Frenchmen in their second language. But yeah the bathtub scene for example shows that Aja, when he's good, is really good at crafting shocking horror setpieces. Just needed to trim this movie quite a lot and have more of that because the character drama element is formulaic and uninteresting. Kiefer and the orc lady were good though.

No, it sucks tits. At least from memory that does happen in Gozu, might be thinking of Visitor Q but I believe it occurs in both movies.

Back in high school i had a movie buddy who lived on my street and I'd spend the weekends at his house and we'd rent all the classics on vhs because we hadn't seen any of them before, and old jackie chan flicks and stuff like that. That was fun. Now I don't have anyone to hang out with around the house and watch stuff with, it's all me by myself. I have people I meet up with every once in a while to go to the theater with, but I miss just hanging out. Blah blah blah.

Cinema has peaked and it's all been downhill since then. At what point that started is debatable, but there is also a viewable data point where suddenly movies just became capeshit and endless sequels, which was sometime around the mid to late 2000s.

The first horror feature ever made was an adaptation of Frankenstein, and they never stopped making adaptations of it since then. You're the one who doesn't know what's going on.
>>
>>220856876
We have had 20+ years of 0 blockbusters that were action or thrillers like we did pre-2000s.
>>
>>220856876
More movies than ever are coming out, so it makes sense there will be more shit ones that previously. But the biggest budget movies feel smoothed off with the algorithm.
I like lots of new kinos but movies now increasingly fall into the category of "I think this film is actively trying to fuck me off". I can put on basically any film from before the 00s and I'll be hard pressed to actively dislike it.

It wasn't enough of a success in Blumhouse's eyes so they cancelled the planned sequel, kind of funny since it condemns that little girl to hell when she was definitely coming back.

Obsession was one of the most unique films I've seen in a while. The plot is ancient, but the expression of it wasn't.

One of Adam Lanza’s favourite movies (possibly his favourite? I don’t remember exactly) that’s how I originally found out about it. It’s excellent.

Yes it’s true. Lanza was a big fan of horror films, specifically stuff from the 70s. Slightly artisty stuff mainly, but he liked some schlock too. His list of favourite movies on “shocked beyond belief” Let's Scare Jessica To Death, Willard, Crawlspace, Haunts of the Very Rich, Private Parts, Folks at Red Wolf Inn, Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, The Baby, Messiah of Evil, Don't Look in the Basement, The Killing Kind, Bad Ronald, Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural, Driller Killer, Don't Go in the House, The Attic, The Pit, Night Warning, Deadly Messages, Link, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Bloody Wednesday, Pin, Beyond Dream's Door, Stalking Laura

Still quite impressive for a youtuber, it was a real film.

Why didn't they call in the equivalents of the FBI and CDC?

I don't think any country would expect small town cops to handle a case involving a foreign national, multiple murders, and a mysterious new disease.

Prometheus is a mixture of retarded ideas and kino, few film watchers are able to reconcile these two elements and realise that overall it is a good flick. I knew one guy who said he thought Covenant was better, even. But he was and perhaps still is retarded. Although I actually like Covenant sort of.

I need to watch Wrong Turn 2 again. It's been too long and I don't remember shit about it except that it was good.
I feel like I always just end up watching the original every few years, but never the sequel. The opposite of The Hills Have Eyes where I just watch 2 (remake) and never the Alexandre Aja first one.

Better technology doesn't mean a better movie. You have to use the technology well and make a good movie.
Also I thought the Backrooms was a good movie. There are a lot of practical effects in it if that is what you are trying to say.
>>
>>220866686
Well more should develop within a discipline over 100 years than just the technology. I get where he's coming from, but also disagree with him. Modern movies are just fine. I'd rather watch Eggers' Nosferatu any day over Murnau's t b h.

I really liked it. I think I respect it more than liked it.

It had a dismal, really shitty attitude about it that I did not expect from a basedboy youtuber known for his Five Nights at Freddy's reaction videos. I figured it would be nonstop jumpscares and whatnot. I've never seen any of his videos, just screenshots. But this was cool.

Better than the game.

One of the most popular youtubers in the history of the website alone on a submarine talking to people for 2 hours. Written, directed and starring. It should have been puke. But I liked it.

For some reason it reminded me a bit of the opening of All the Fiends of Hell, the book. Very negative
