Practical effects are a must though, seeing puppets and other real shit was awesome to see. I think some guy also died or got seriously injured while filming, a real person got hit by a car and flung pretty far, with an intense look of pain on his face when I slowed it down. There's no way he wasn't at least seriously injured. The stunts in some of these Hong Kong movies are insane.

What a snoozefest, aside from one or two scenes. The dialogue was extremely generic and wooden also, makes sense that it was written by two Frenchmen in their second language. But yeah the bathtub scene for example shows that Aja, when he's good, is really good at crafting shocking horror setpieces. Just needed to trim this movie quite a lot and have more of that because the character drama element is formulaic and uninteresting. Kiefer and the orc lady were good though.
