I think he kills more than Garak, not even counting all the indirect deaths. It is one of those little things that takes a while for you to realize, like how no one ever comments on the fact that Damar has an unusually high level of technical and engineering skills.

>Figures out Klingon technology within half a hour including fixing a cloaking device
>Installs a planetary defense phaser on a cargo ship
>Creates holographic disguise system
>Hacks Klingon central command
>Takes down mine field
>Rigs untraceable transporter accidents
>Designs orbital weapons platforms that can shrug off entire Galaxy wings worth of firepower

Dudes a freaking genius.

you fundamentally misunderstand quark. he is not principled pacifist, he is a bar owner in a wild part of space where open violence is unprofitable.

>Rule of Acquisition 161. Never kill a customer, unless you make more profit out of his death than out of his life

Quark believes in Ferengi religion which clearly has multiple passages justifying acts of violence. If he were, for instance, a weapons smuggler, his perspective on killing would be appropriately profitable for that line of work

the implication of the katra is that vulcans have souls but nobody else does. they're a sort of unique people, chosen even.

Q only appears metaphysical from our perspective. He doesnt every demonstrate anything actually metaphysical. Other Q are able to counter him, Crystaline entity attacks him. He and other Q are extreme advanced beings not metaphysical entities.

That Katra being metaphysical means that souls are real, and apparently only Vulcans have them? Why would that be? After all, all the alpha quadrant species are distilled from a single species, so all them should have it.

im up to the last episode of voy, and....nope. ive grown to like the characters but theyre just not as good on the whole. and the story wasnt developed nearly as well as ds9. the second to last episode of the series i just watched could've been moved to anywhere in season 4-7 and it would've made no difference

NuTrek has no original ideas so they smash the nostalgia button over and over. TNG and DS9 had callbacks to TOS as well, but they were either easier eggs or used to enhance the story they built.

>>It's a simple premise
More like it's premise is a lie. Which is honestly not a problem for me, I'm perfectly fine with "TNG with a different cast" because it fills that void after finishing TNG. I just think 90% of its individual scripts are mediocre at best. The Doctor is the most beloved character likely because Picardo was allowed to improv some of his lines.
>>
>>220886071
Agreed. I'm just at the end of season 3 of Voyager and I'm enjoying it a lot, but it doesn't leverage its premise all that well. I'd be fine with that if it were at least more adventurous like TOS, but even then most of its aliens are standard Berman-era forehead fodder and the plots are more often than not very TNG.

Being TNG Again isn't a bad thing, but there are other missteps that make it feel more like TNG But Worse. DS9's last couple seasons are hurt a lot by focusing on a serialized story that sort of sucks, but even the first few seasons have a ton of standout episodes that set it apart and feel distinct. There are episodes of TNG you could tweak into DS9 episodes and vice versa, but I never felt like the shows as a whole were occupying the same niche.

Now that it's been made public that the "Wang was on the chopping block" rumor is false and Jennifer Lien was let go because of declining mental health, "Fury" is even more sickening. Story by Berman and Braga, i.e. the two people responsible for firing her. The whole eppy (I wouldn't dare call this a 'sode) is basically the VOY producers saying
>Hey, don't blame *us* for your problems, bitch! We gave you 3 years of steady pay!
Sickening story from people sicker in the heart than Jen was in her head.
>>
>>220886796
I don't even consider this ep to be canon because of how spiteful it feels.
To be fair though Lien was a drug addict on top of everything else and there was no way a television production was gonna have that.
>>
>>220886290
I find Voyager more rewatchable than TNG despite TNG's higher highs. TNG feels a little too stuffy at points.

>Old Trek bad because actors had to show up at 5 AM five days a week for most of the year to have their makeup put on and sit through long shoots to get 26 episodes put in the can
>New Trek good because the actors only have to film their scenes for like a week since there's only 10 episodes and the rest is just filled in with CGI made in India
>>
>>220886904
It is less stuffy. Voyager is more relaxed and casual, which is one aspect of its premise it adequately reflects: it makes sense that these people would ease up.

It's just a hard show to make a case for unless you've seen everything else and want more Star Trek. TOS, TNG, and DS9 all sell themselves without much effort. Voyager is tougher, especially since it's no longer tethered to a network identity. It's still good, though. I even like Neelix.

Everyone says Profit and Lace is the worst DS9 episode but I had a lot harder time getting through Fascination on my rewatch. None of the “crew acts differently due to plot device” episodes are any good on that show. Though, now that I think about it they weren’t any good on TNG either, so maybe I just hate the premise in general.

Profit and Lace is a boilerplate Ferengi episode, little different than many of the others. It's just the trannies that get triggered by it.

DS9 has much worse episodes, like pretty much ANY of the Dax ones.

People have been complaining about gender roles and male gaze in Star Trek for 50 years. TNG paid lipservice to the bitching like "The Federation respects women here in the 24th century. We even have female captains!" but still accommodating men's desire to look at sexy women.

I find it funny when JJTrek describes Starfleet as a "humanitarian and peacekeeping armada" with no mention of space exploration or science at all. Starfleet is very heavily militarized.
